If you spent your entire weekend sneaking through Blood Bath and Gronznyj Grad, Metal Gear Online's first two levels, you may be ready for a change of scenery. Introducing Midtown Maelstrom, a Middle-Eastern town full of narrow alleyways. Maybe you're also looking for something new to do, as long as you've got a new map.
Sneaking Mission is the name of the newly added game mode and here's how it works: one lucky player will be chosen to play as Solid Snake himself – replete with OctoCamo, Solid Eye and, if more than ten players join, another player will help snake out as Metal Gear Mk II – while the remainder of the less fortunate players will be divided into Red and Blue teams. In order for Snake to win, he must snag a set number of tags from other players; for either team to win, they must take out Snake within a set time. Not a bad way to celebrate three stable days of the Metal Gear Online beta, eh?

Looks like I'm never going to get the time to play this beta. Who wants my code? First person to email me at bs.tuna@gmail.com gets it.

Maybe it's just me, but the concepts behind this game sound far more entertaining than MGS4.
Probably just me.

Are you in Europe? Europe got an open beta, the US got codes that came in the pre-order "Metal Gear Saga vol. 2" case.
It probably falls somewhere between a ploy to get more pre-orders and a way of controlling what they thought would be much higher server load coming from the US.

I enjoyed what little I played. Definately need to read their online manuals though.

Yea, the novice tutorials are quite handy. I went through them even after I kinda already had everything down and now Im even better at it. Graphics ended up looking quite awesome regardless of the shortness in P's =P

yea mine wouldnt download the updates either. its probably my shitty internet connection though its been running really slow as of late after bing completely off for almost a month. yea my internet company sucks, but its the only thing we can get out in the woods where i live that doesnt have a stupid (and super low) download threshhold.

does anybody know what happens on the PS3 when you set your status to "Unavailable"? does it make you look like your offline or something? or does it just put that little yellow beside my name on the other person's screen?

While it was fun, it kept sending me into the same map over and over. Also, I would choose base mode or capture and it would always turn out to be team deathmatch. Weird.

I'm here to educate you about the single biggest threat to our planet. You see, there is something out there which threatens our very existence and may be the end of the human race as we know it. I'm talking of course about........

Why did they have to do this now? In 7 hours time I will have a copy of GTA IV in my hands! It's a good thing the beta has been extended.
Thinking about it, do I really want my first Old Snake experience to be in a moderately good multiplayer beta? I might avoid him until June 12th.

Metal Gear Online will come with Metal Gear Solid 4 and will feature something like 8 levels, and lots of guns. Further content will be added via DLC later.

Varone are right. MGS4 will include the MGO starterpack (5 maps) and later on DLC will be released for it.

I played it lastnight for the first time. After getting 2 new user names and downloading 2 updates I jumped online... Damn I wish I hadnt. I ran like I was in Lost Planet but with no snow to make it seem reasonable. Some dude knocked me out and a joystiq popped out of my dudes ass online and told me to waggle the left stick. I turned into a box several times when I didnt mean to (hit the wrong button) and couldnt find the cool looking catapult thing.
This game is in no way realistic. Not even splinter cell so so realism on the online games.

Right because realism is the only thing that makes anything remotely fun.
Honestly I was really disappointed when I first played it, everything was stiff, the controls were an enigma, but after the Novice training I got better. Now I'm anywhere from 1st to 4th place in the ranks at the end of the game. It takes some getting used to, definitely, but once you get skills figured out it's a blast, at least for me.
I say give it another shot, you might totally dig it.

Good lord, I expected so little of this game going into it, but I've been having a ridiculously good time playing it. This is too cool, I think I'm actually going to buy it when it comes out.

I'd love to play Midtown Maelstrom... But I'd also love to play Gronznyj Grad. The automatching only wants me to play Blood Bath though.
I REALLY want to like the game but the controls are just terrible.
Collision detection is ridiculous, when you and someone else are standing inches apart each throwing the butt of your rifle at each other just for no contact to occur.
And the lock on only seems to lock on occassionally. Nothing quite like standing a metre from someone, square on, rifle pointed and it refuses to lock on.
I thought the point of an online beta was that the gameplay themselves were pretty much complete and they just wanted to test how the multiplayer functions in the real world. Instead we have to jump through hoops to play some bug ridden POS

Oh, and while I'm in a ranting mood...
Why can't I run?
I know there's a Fast Move skill but all it seems to do is allow you to walk ever so slightly faster then the crawl you already move at.
I literally get bored moving from one location to another it takes so long.

Sony sent out codes to at least some of the members of the Gamer Advisory Panel that didn't pre-order MGS4.
