Ghostbusters' Wii connectivity turns DS into PKE Meter [update]
[Update: Actually, there won't be a connectivity feature that turns the DS into a PKE Meter. Sorry.]The Wii version of Ghostbusters might be headed in an uncertain direction in the hands of Red Fly, a wholly different developer than Terminal Reality, which is creating the other version, but it will at least make use of the waggle console's touchy sibling. Busting through the fourth wall, Wii's Ghostbusters will morph any old DS (sold separately, of course) into a bleeping, blinking "PKE Meter," reports videogaming247. Sure, it's a glorified radar, but it senses ghost goo -- and you'll actually hold the darn thing in your hand! Has ectoplasmic detection ever been so tangible?
In addition, the Wii version (and PS2 port) will place special emphasis on local multiplayer and feature 4-player split-screen gameplay. Just don't cross the streams.

That's actually a kind of cool idea.
PojoMofo @ Apr 29th 2008 5:42PM
agreed, There should be more Wii-DS functionality like this.
voodoo_craig @ Apr 29th 2008 5:35PM
Oooooooooaaaaarrrrrrggghh!
Beg your pardon, I think I've just come.
PojoMofo @ Apr 29th 2008 5:41PM

Ryuukuro @ Apr 29th 2008 8:42PM
Ghostbusters + Nintendo =/= Sex...but it comes pretty damn close. I'm sporting a pretty big nerd boner right now.
itsburnsie @ Apr 30th 2008 11:01AM
"Beg your pardon, I think I've just come."
So that means you're covered in "ectoplasm" now... right?
Namssorg @ Apr 29th 2008 5:43PM
YES. I once made a PKE meter with some of my wood blocks and some straws. Can we get a poll of how many readers "played" Ghostbusters as kids? He-Man?
makishima @ Apr 29th 2008 5:45PM
Both + Thundercats. Did anyone else have that piece of orange plastic you strapped to one hand that was supposed to be like Lion-o's hand? My god I'm a dork XD
capt_carl @ Apr 29th 2008 6:45PM
I had like every toy when I was a kid, and I watched the REAL Ghostbusters cartoon as well as TMNT when I was a kid. Ahhh, to be a child of the 80's.
Shmil @ Apr 29th 2008 8:40PM
Ghostbusters and TMNT as a kid.
before that I was Darkwing duck.
hvnlysoldr @ Apr 30th 2008 2:26AM
I had Lion-O's Sword of Omens, He-Man's Sword of Eternia, Ecto-1, the whole cast of ghostbusters, 3 chested battle damage showing Skeletor, He-Man, some crab guy from She-Ra, Two Face, Long Neck, and Man-at-Arms. My friends had packs, traps, and PKEs.
Kye - Joystiq Greybeard @ Apr 30th 2008 5:02AM
I had some good ghost busting as a child.
Ninja turtles was the shizzle tho.
Ever notice how in today's cartoons only robots ever get killed? :-(
Zertoss @ Apr 29th 2008 5:44PM
Best. Gimmick. Ever. Day one purchase for me.
PojoMofo @ Apr 29th 2008 5:56PM

SKI @ Apr 30th 2008 8:09AM
gimmick =/= bad
gim·mick An innovative or unusual mechanical contrivance; a gadget.
TheHuntIsOn @ Apr 29th 2008 6:02PM
Good grief that sounds quite fun actually.
Ihavepants @ Apr 29th 2008 6:04PM
Ok, I'm just commenting here to say that your new ad system is absolutely fucked, everytime you give karma to someone you can't even see the article anymore... I even tried to skip on the damn things but they don't go away, had to refresh.
Way to sell out there.
hydralisk456 @ Apr 29th 2008 6:10PM
Firefox + Ad Block Plus = no ads at all, ever.
PojoMofo @ Apr 29th 2008 6:38PM
everyone has to make a buck right?
Dave A. @ Apr 29th 2008 6:46PM
I saw one as well. And these ads, AFAIK, go past AdBlock Plus. There was a Ludwig post a while ago that I started noticing these comments.
Mr Khan @ Apr 29th 2008 7:54PM
My adblocker is partially getting it, but that just makes it worse. All i get is a black screen, and my I can neither proceed nor go back, I have to get back to it through the address bar
But i'm running on my new laptop, so life is sweet
Raikage (LDF CRAB BATTLE!!!) @ Apr 29th 2008 9:31PM
BSOD
Black Screen Of Death.
I call it!
Ned @ Apr 29th 2008 11:43PM
Noscript for firefox blocks them good, I haven't seen a single obstructive ad.
Ihavepants @ Apr 30th 2008 12:41AM
All you people are ignoring my point by mentioning your ad blockers.
Joystiq put these ads which actually stop you from even being able to read the article, you shouldnt NEED something to stop them, they just should not be there.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 30th 2008 4:45AM
Joystiq's owned by AOL.
'Nuff said.
Travis @ Apr 29th 2008 6:34PM
Xbox 360 version please..I'm not into DS gimmicks and waggle...
mr mobius @ Apr 29th 2008 6:49PM
Gimmick yes, cool yes, waggle you know you want.
Graphic whores will one day realise that innovation saved console gaming and will do it again.
deepthought @ Apr 30th 2008 2:47AM
graphics whore? how about tacked on waggle whore? how come we never hear that. and since when did gaming need to be saved? great. now my grandma plays. i'm sooooo much better off. yippee skip.
License to ill @ Apr 30th 2008 9:13AM
"and since when did gaming need to be saved?"
thats the delusional world some of the Nintendo fanboys live in, gaming didn't get saved by the wii and the wii is far from innovative...
capt_carl @ Apr 29th 2008 6:44PM

-Symmetrical book stacking! Just like the Philadelphia mass turbulence of 1947!
-You're right, no...human being would ever stack books like this.. .
Schmobu @ Apr 29th 2008 9:11PM
Isn't nayone pissed, that Shiggy was right about big name companies, making Wii games, using low end companies, Star wars unleashed for Wii being made by Krome Studios, who are well known in there company for delivering super crap pieces of unoriginal crap sprinkled with crap with crap on top of the crap sauce, seriously hire someone who didn't bake their brain, it ain't fucking hard, Fuck you the company that said, yeah lets shit on the Wii owners.
On a side not the graphics on the Wii version don't look entirely ripped of the PS2 version, since they got specular mapping but they are shit none the less.
Joeshie @ Apr 29th 2008 10:45PM
Fuck yeah, Ghostbusters.
Mighty Shockwave @ Apr 29th 2008 11:44PM
Hmm...
Methinks I'll get the Wii version after all. Some actual Wii/DS connectivity is what I've been waiting for.
harvsorrow @ Apr 30th 2008 1:45AM
need....more....details!
Jeez, how long have we been waiting for some relevant DS/Wii connectivity? (Although this seems neat, the relevance is still up in the air)
Dr. Doom @ Apr 30th 2008 8:36AM
I know this is news about the Wii but I read over on 1UP where the guys said that the next-gen version won't allow you to play multiplayer through the whole campaign nor does it allow for you to play as one of the 4 but you play as a 5th rookie....?
I was stoked about this game but now I'm slightly disappointed. Hopefully they were talking about the Wii version in 1Up's 1st impressions review.
