Microsoft drops price of Xbox 360 in Asia
Microsoft has dropped the price of its Xbox 360 in four Asian markets: Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan (via Bloomberg). According to Microsoft executive Jeff Bell, price reductions in Europe caused sales of the hardware there to almost double.
Here are the price drops reported by region:

Of course we don't hear of its sales figures in those countries. How is it going against the other consoles? I'm sure the Wii is slaughtering it in sales (I don't care myself) as it is all over the world but I'd still like to know how its doing relatively.

I'm not even too certain the Wii has entered those markets yet. I mean, hell, South Korea got DS for the first time in January of last year.

PS3 outsells 360 consisently in every region excluding NA. and even in NA, its been outselling 360 for the past few months. even with the European 360 price drop which doubled sales, PS3 still outsold it in that region.
who cares about Wii sales, it doesnt compete directly with PS3 and 360 as Wii is more of a casual console designed for non-gamers/casuals.
DemonGSides @ Apr 29th 2008 11:22AM
They can outsell it all they want, outselling a console 11 to 10 is not going to get you over a year lead.
ssuk @ Apr 29th 2008 12:11PM
It's tricky to really gauge the PS3's sales victory over the 360. Even if the PS3 outsells the 360, you have no way of telling how many of these consoles are being snapped up as slightly cheaper Blu-Ray players and which are being snapped up to play games.
Software sales are also promiscuous to trust as not everyone buys games very frequently and many people will buy more than one game, rather than most people buying just one console.
Also, the 360 has held it's own against the PS3 for nearly two years, despite the 360 being on sale much longer than the PS3 had in quite a few regions. The last bastion, being America, where even now, the 360's head is still struggling to surface. Any future price cuts in America may place the 360 ahead of the PS3 once more. We just don't know and can't tell.
(Disclaimer: I took a neutral stand-point on this comment. I am neither a fanboy of the 360 nor PS3. Although if it helps you discredit me, I own a 360 and Wii, not a PS3 as of yet.)

Whoopty fuckin do. How about an American price drop guys? A one-two punch of that and GTA's exclusive DLC would be what you need to move some serious consoles this/next month.
ssuk @ Apr 29th 2008 12:12PM
Don't you think you people have the console cheap enough as it is? Come and enjoy the wonders of shopping in Europe for a few weeks. You wont enjoy it.

I would like to see a price drop for when I reinvest...

Seems more like an adjustment to bring it inline with N.A. prices rather then a price drop.
As for the Wii in the those regions, I don't see how people constantly dismiss it by stating that it doesn't compete in the same market. It sure is competing in the same market and I can garuntee MS or Sony would love to have those same customers on their consoles that Nintendo has on theirs. It is a media market, it is a games market, it is whatever you call it. What it really is, is just a different marketing approach, one that just happens to be working well for Nintendo at this particular time.
Tim The Enchanter @ Apr 29th 2008 12:20PM
The wii is on the same market, because some will buy a wii instead of a 360 or PS3. Not everyone can afford two consoles.
The argument about it being aimed at casual gamers is moot because many hardcore games also play casual games. Parties, bus rides, etc. So really, the markets do cross in this case.
Ridgecity @ Apr 29th 2008 1:32PM
Of couse it's not competing against Sony and MS...
when you have a product the sells 6 to 1, there's not competition as you already own the market.
There's always one piece of the pie in statistical charts "Other Brands" and that where they are. They only console selling at Nintendo level is the PSp, but it sells because of that DarkAlex guy and his hacking.
Tim The Enchanter @ Apr 29th 2008 3:09PM
My point is simply that the Wii's market crosses over into the hardcore and also does well there.
NekoMode @ Apr 29th 2008 12:46PM
The question is what is Microsoft doing to adress the atrocious yet important Japanese market?

Ouch... Guess they a feeling the burn... I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii black market sells hundreds of thousands of consoles already. And most Wii backups come from that region of the world. Do the math.
Microsoft doesn't cut prices for anything.

Just to kill some of this false info: The 360 outsells the PS3 in the UK...
What a surprise, considering the UK is the only country in Europe with a ****ing clue.
