They both look great and similar, but at points in the video, the PS3 has some brighter looking light, like the sky looks fantastic in the PS3 version, although it may just be some kind of weather thing in the game at different times =\

LOL At all of you immature kids saying that xbox live is better than PSN and that GTA 4 online is better on 360. They're both the same, you turn the game on, go to multiplayer and enjoy the game. If you guys saw GTA 4 online playing on two different tv's with one for each console, none of you could tell me which one was which.

agreed, though xbox live has been getting some pretty bad press for servers down and bad service recently. And apparently (so I've read), ps3 has better games on psn. And then your paying for xbox live...

wow... that sounds like psn has the advantage, doesn't it?

I never could tell what made xbox live so great come to think of it. Why is it supposedly better than the psn? comments?

didnt read all the comments but who the hell cares which is better? its gta4 we're talking about here. it's going to be good regardless what console you have. i have a 360 and im loving it, my buddy has a ps3 and he's loving it. just play the damn game and stop worrying about which console handles the game better!

quick question to those proclaiming that achievements is a reason that the 360 version is better:

Can't you technically do the same thing on the PS3 version, just that you won't get a little blip at the bottom of your screen?

based solely on the video presented here, ps3 looks better I'm sorry to say. I don't own a ps3, and my 360 copy of gta4 should be here tomorrow from amazon... and i really could care less.

I'm actually scared about freezes and popping after reading all this crap... I just want to enjoy the game.... and seeing as I don't own a ps3 it'll basically be like that version of it doesn't exist and I hope I enjoy the hell out of it on the 360 for weeks and weeks to come!

I thought the colours looked better on the 360 version and were more vibrant but i got flamed at Kotaku for saying that :/ Basically the whole "your wrong, PS3 is teh best colours lololol"

I don't personally care but it just looked like to me that 360 had the edge when it came to colours. Both are near identical anyway.

Is it just me or the shoreline water in the PS3 version has no bubbles.. coz the xbox 360 looks more realistic on that angle..

I think the differences are so minute that you would only ever notice them in a video comparison, not whilst actually enjoying the game. I have to wait till thursday to get my copy. So to all of you who have a copy and are on here posting comments on such an annoying story - SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!

The only thing what caught my eye was when they was looking into the sea and moving around to the right on the ps3 screen you see the sun light catching the watter the xbox 360 you dont see that. Thats about it. The water looks better on the ps3 but nothing much different.

Why do you guys post these stories that will cause fanboys the world around to grab their magnifying glasses and look for the most minute differences that no one else would notice? Do you guys enjoy watching people argue about basically moot points? Or are you just trying to meet your weekly quotas?

Who gives a shit which system has the more detailed turd floating int he toilet, and why is everyone all defending inanimate boxes like they are your family?

First off, Stop with the system killer. Your 360 is junk, get a new one.

Secondly, that is an unfair comparison considering all PS3 is showing off is the scenery. The 360 gets most of the picture, so i don't know how anyone could make a fair comparison.

I like my 360 and i will be enjoying it even when we get the exclusive content.

I lurk on this site a lot and this is my first post. I own a 360 and a PC, I am not really a fan of the PS3 but can see why people are.
The game looks no different to me, some very slight colour differences but that could be due to TV set ups as mentioned. Why cant you get the game on the console of your choice and grab a nice warm cup of STFU and enjoy it. The graphics are pretty pants IMO nothing at all new here, this game shines for other reasons mostly due to content and playability. If and when a PC is released and its not just a port, hopefully then the graphics will be something to shout about.

Well i own both the PS3 & 360, and i purchased the game on the 360, my honest reason for buying on 360: Achievements and Online play.

In this video the PS3 version looks darker, but that can be rectified, so no real difference, no matter what version it's still a great game.

Oh here is some cheats for GTA IV
http://360-ps3-news.blogspot.com/2008/04/hot-of-press-gta-iv-cheats.html

They do disable achievements on 360 though! :-(

Take it easy guys

sigh... This is going to be one of those where you think because you see something at the same time on both, it will show which one looks best. That is obviously not the case. Not only dynamic weather, but the waves are dynamic (afaik) as well, which is why the water was waving differently on the 360 vs PS3 version, which is also why it didnt look the same. The water on the 360 version reflects the same, so if you were to compare it when they were both waving the same, it would look roughly the same. Same for the sky, dynamic weather = not the same on both at same time, so of course one will look different than the other, its not that the PS3 has better anything quite frankly.

360: 720p - PS3: 630p (or 640p, being scaled)
360: Achievements - PS3: None
360: Reliable online where most have voice - PS3: Problems with online so far on GTAIV, most dont have voice.
360: Higher framerate (which is also why people think the PS3 is running smoother, it isnt, just the drops are more apparent from the 360s higher fps than the PS3s lower fps - ie. a drop from 60fps to 30fps is more noticeable than a drop from 40fps to 30fps, even tho they are dropping to the same fps) - PS3: Lower fps, a SLIGHT bit less pop-in/texture loads. (I say slight, as it appears that most 360 users are noticing very little of it, I myself could count on one hand the times I have noticed it on 360)
360: All data streamed from disc, a few seconds at most longer load times - PS3: Required 3.4gb install that takes roughly 7 minutes to complete, for a few seconds at most gain and mostly just to keep in line with the 360s speeds, that doesnt use HD caching.
360: DLC def. coming, at least 10ish hours of content. - PS3: Maybe, no idea when, no idea how much content, etc.

All in all, and when viewing the "look" of GTAIV side by side, I would say the 360 trumps the PS3 on this game. Of course this is my opinion as they both look so similar, but, when you splice it up piece by piece, the 360 edges ahead just a bit when all things are considered.

As an owner of both PS3 and 360 I could care less what system I get GTA IV for. I'm just gonna wait to see how many of my friends get for whatever system then I decide then for the online feature. i ended up get COD4 for both systems (originally had for PS3 when it first came out and was influenced to get it for 360 recently for online with buds) and they look identical to me. I love both systems just which I had more hours in the day to play more often :(

Ummmm, Your article is confusing and unclear, especially in the first few sentences. Not a good sign guy.

How many times do I have to ask for someone to get this kid a Grammar and Style manual?

Anyone?

Am I gonna have to send it to your office?

With an alarm clock?

I went to pick up GTA 4 at Circuit City yesterday and all they had left was the ps3 version, so I went to Best Buy and picked up the 360 version.

I picked up the 360 version because of the exclusive DLC and because I know way more people on the 360.

I played almost 8 hours yesterday (7:45 to be exact) without any problems whatsoever. This game is a technological achievement no doubt!!

As for the graphics, they look the same for me, and with all the adjustments you can make on the Display in the options menu, you simply can't lose either way (360 vs PS3)

I am glad though that the 360 has DL content coming, because I can see myself finishing this one!!

Plus the achievements are great too.....so with that said, the 360 version has to be the one to get, IMHO.

Color may have been more vibrant on the PS3, but the 360 had more realistic tones to it. I want my GTA to be as realistic as possible, so I'd say the 360 has the better graphics. In most cases the 360 sky is a blue-grey. I'd say that's too realistic. xD

I was leaning towards the PS3 version (prefer the controller [slightly] and don't care about DLC, which I never buy anyway) but the recent poll showing that problems crop up on the PS3 version far more often than the 360 might push me in the other direction...
