As we wait to hear about the bagiggles of cash Grand Theft Auto IV is making out in the land of retail, we wondered how much the production actually cost. Speaking with The Times, GTA IV producer Leslie Benzies "hazards a guess" that the game cost $100 million to make, with about 1,000 people working on it.
If true, GTA IV would be the most expensive game ever made according to the Guiness World Records Gamer's Edition, which has Shenmue on the Dreamcast as the most expensive, at a cost of $70 million to develop (we don't know if that takes inflation into account). Whatever the cost of GTA IV, we're sure Rockstar will make (or have already made) it back.

The only problem with Wikipedia is that it can be edited by anyone whenever that person wants to edit it.
However, in most cases, the editors catch the stuff that's completely untrue within hours or, in some cases, minutes.

this is why rockstar is amazing. They had a hit on their hands just on the concept of a next gen GTA. They could have slacked off and put out an average game, like EA has done for years with their cash cow football games. Instead, they spent 100 million dollars and had over 1000 employees working on this to give us the best game possible. They also delayed it for months to make it better for both consoles.
This is why EA buying them will make me sad. The truth is, EA would never do this when they know people will buy their top franchises regardless.
