Capcom embraces Mega Man's 'milking,' asks for full Mega Man games list
We have to chuckle when the Capcom blog upon recognizing Mega Man holds the Guiness record for "Most Number of Games In a Single Series," admits that the franchise has been "milked like no other milking in the history of video game milkings!"
The Guinness World Record Gamer's Edition recognizes 46 Mega Man games, but the Capcom blog adds several more that were Japan-only or very much off the beaten path (Mega Man Soccer?). Capcom is actually asking for help in figuring out all the Mega Man games (not counting appearances in other titles). Whoever lists them all on the Capcom site first gets a "semi-official Capcom gold star of complementarianism" and "some kinda random prize." Good luck!

Very true... how many versions of Street Fighter 2 are there again?
zero2dash @ May 1st 2008 11:45AM
'Very true... how many versions of Street Fighter 2 are there again?'
Officially - 3
1) The World Warriors
2) Championship Edition
3) Hyper Fighting
The most popular unofficial hack was Rainbow Edition.
Then of course there were 2 Super series games, 3 Zero series games (not counting Zero Upper)...what, 6 EX series games, and then 3 SF3 titles.
zero2dash @ May 1st 2008 11:47AM
ACK...*4* Zero series games (forgot about Zero 2 Dash, ironically) =S

Apparently it's over 100.

(insert "OVER 9000!!" joke here)
Jody Anthony (cookingrebels.com) @ May 1st 2008 11:23AM
I'm impressed that they beat the mario series.
Zertoss @ May 1st 2008 11:31AM
IIRC, the Mario series is right on Mega Man's heels. However, Mario has made appearances in far more games: 116 as of January (not including remakes and re-releases).
Jansperus @ May 1st 2008 11:25AM
That picture of Megaman being milked is quite disturbing, especially since he's a boy cow.
Jody Anthony (cookingrebels.com) @ May 1st 2008 11:28AM
so THATS why my cereal didn't taste quite right

Rule 34 strikes again!

I LOVED Mega Man Soccer. Just such a bizarre game with plenty of variety (for the time). I'd be excited to revisit it on XBLA or VC...
Kevin @ May 1st 2008 12:02PM
That game totally rocked.
Oh, and Gemini Man for goalie!
koehler83 @ May 1st 2008 11:33AM
Second. Best. Franchise. Evar.
(Final Fantasy is better though)
Fernando Rocker @ May 1st 2008 11:37AM
I can haz moar Megaman?
Really, I love Megaman series, well, just the sidescrollers Megaman: Megaman series, Megaman X series, Megaman Zero series, and Megaman ZX.
I dont like Legends or Battle Network or any other Megaman RPG. And I also don't like Megaman 64.
I want more sidescrollers Megaman games...
=p
Fernando Rocker @ May 1st 2008 11:40AM
Oh, and Viewtiful Joe 3, please.
PojoMofo @ May 1st 2008 11:42AM
Did you play the Mega man Legends games on PS1?? I thought those were VERY well done, and a nice depature from the normal Mega man formula.
Zertoss @ May 1st 2008 11:47AM
I'm also a huge fan of the sidescrollers, also loved both Legends games. X7 and X8 were kinda meh, and the Battle Network series I just can't enjoy no matter how hard I try. I haven't even bothered trying Starforce.
I want more classic Mega Man, X, Zero and ZX.
John Z @ May 1st 2008 12:10PM
Legends/DASH was as much a Mega Man RPG as Resident Evil is about fluffy bunnies and kittens. If anything it was an above-average 3-D adventure game (along the lines of Spyro or Mario 64, but with more weapons-- which, when you think about it, makes it basically Ratchet and Clank).
I'm tempted to go to the Capcom site and insist that Mega Man Legends 3 exists. Best damn version of the series since the original.
RDX @ May 1st 2008 12:17PM
If you didn't enjoy the Battle Network games, stay far away from Star Force. I am a HUGE fan of the Battle Network series and felt that Star Force was a pretty big step back. And there's already a third installment announced. And America hasn't even gotten the second yet...
Yourself @ May 1st 2008 1:37PM
ZX Advent was shockingly good. It's easily my favorite since the original Mega Man X (best side-scrolling game ever), and was truly underrated. This is from someone who as proudly beat: The entire original series (barring the abominable 8), the entire X series except for the PS2 games (also terrible), the entire Zero series, MM and Bass, Legends, and both ZX games.
Oh and while I'm bragging, I did in fact beat Mega Man X without taking a single point of damage.
Geoff @ May 1st 2008 11:42AM
The Wikipedia list is fairly comprehensive, but leaves off at least the Tiger handheld LCD releases of Mega Man 2 and 3.
:D
Marcus Albers @ May 1st 2008 12:12PM
Heh, I've still got a Tiger Mega Man 2 somewhere. It was fun at the time, when I didn't have the dosh to plunk down for a new (at the time) Gameboy.
Ranus Studios @ May 1st 2008 12:09PM
Mega Man Soccer was friggin' awesome.
samfish @ May 1st 2008 12:33PM
10 billion and four Mega Man games and not a single one of them is called 'Mega Man 9'.
...or 'Mega Man's Naked Vampiritic Battle Rape Party'.
WTF Capcom?
deaftly @ May 1st 2008 12:53PM
Anyone ever play that MegaMan fighting game in the arcade, it was actually pretty good.
Squirrel3D @ May 1st 2008 1:27PM
Megaman the power battles 1 and 2 is what your refering to.
Squirrel3D @ May 1st 2008 1:27PM
Has anyone ever come up with their own MM bosses??
Jansperus @ May 1st 2008 4:13PM
I did. As a kid, I sent a letter to Capcom with my idea for Megaman 4. They said, thanks, but they can't accept outside work or something like that. The usual. I forgot all the characters that I came up with, as they were probably pretty lame (I was a kid, after all), but I remember I had an idea for a character named Dust Man, and when Megaman 4 came out, I was pissed that they stole my idea. Now, in hindsight, I realize that I was probably only one of several hundred people who came up with the idea of Dust Man.
LiK @ May 1st 2008 1:46PM
omg, that mega man/cow image is mighty disturbing...
jimmygotsmack @ May 1st 2008 3:14PM
Just look how happy the mega-cow is.
Mr.ESC @ May 1st 2008 2:06PM
That reminds me where is my remake of Megaman 2 for the PSP Capcom?
dragoon013 @ May 1st 2008 2:09PM
There's 132 Mega Man games, but I can't post a list of them on Capcom's site because you need some kind of Blogging software. I wouldn't want to take up the space by posting them all here.
RoboChamp @ May 1st 2008 2:27PM
Wouldn't mind if one of those games were MEGAMAN LEGENDS 3.
Yes Capcom, I'm still waiting.
Jansperus @ May 1st 2008 2:28PM
People are giving Capcom crap for releasing tons of sequels, but at least they were good, unlike another company that releases the same game over and over in what is the ULTIMATE FORM of SHOVELWARE. You know who I'm talking about. Seriously, I've resorted to calling Super Smash Bros. Brawl Super Smash Bros. 1.0.2.
Lijik @ May 1st 2008 2:47PM
The original NES Megaman games and the GB iterations were shovelware, and that was about 13 or so games. Brawl is only the third game in the franchise.
It just doesn't even compare to Capcom's shovelware feel.
Psaakyrn @ May 1st 2008 3:03PM
I think you got mixed up with generic sports game 20xx.
Ridgecity @ May 1st 2008 2:50PM
lol, even Capcom doesn't know how many megaman games they have made. Isn't that just stupid...
Psaakyrn @ May 1st 2008 3:04PM
^^ phail at publicity gimmick
hvnlysoldr @ May 1st 2008 7:38PM
MegaMan Legends 1,2, and 3 for VC please.
spirit @ May 6th 2008 5:45PM
I know all of the games names without looking at any search engine
