Posting on the official blog of his new studio Platinum Games, Okami director Hideki Kamiya, who developed the original PlayStation 2 version with the now defunct Clover Studio, addresses (in English) Capcom's "incredibly disappointing" decision to cut the original credits. Capcom says the cut was made because the original staff roll, which is a pre-rendered movie, contains the Clover logo (at the very, very end), and since Clover was not involved with the Wii port directly, Capcom had "no right" to leave the old logo. Capcom claims it couldn't remove the logo (at the very, very end) because it didn't have the source file. What, couldn't pick up a phone or fire off a few emails?
Kamiya explains that it's not simply the removal of his name and the staff names from the credits that upsets him. "Of course, we all have pride in our work; we all want to stand up and say 'I made this!' Yet more importantly, I find it extremely regrettable that the omoi that went into the staff roll is gone from the game as well." (A translator's note explains "omoi" is "best defined as a combination of thoughts, emotions, and messages.") Kamiya stresses the importance of this post-game omoi, specifically describing the relevance of Okami's original credits in relation to the epic length of the game. "It was a special staff roll for a special moment," writes Kamiya. "And now it is gone."
Jeez, after the watermark debacle, Wii's Okami seemed transformed into a "comedy of errors." Now it's just a true tragedy, huh?

I've never played either version of this game, but I agree with everyone that it's heinous that Capcom's cut the Clover staff's credits. Like it's been said above, this is basically the same thing as plagiarism (aka not citing sources :P) in school. I'd be more than 'shocked' if my name was cut from something I'd poured hundreds of hours into making.
But I guess this, along with RE5, make Capcom racist and plagiarists.
P.S. I don't honestly think they're racist and am going to buy RE5 day 1 if possible.

They just didn't like the idea of doing something that wasn't Megaman or Street Fighter for the thousandth time...

Even IGN got more credit than Clover on Okami Wii

I somehow feel the urge to cancel my pre-order... again.
But it's not like I would care about the credits anyway. I know Clover did part of the work for the original (at least now I do) and well, I couldn't care less. In fact I belong to the group of players that care about the game, not the developer. I had fun with Metroid Prime 3, not with Retro Studios. I enjoyed watching The Matrix not Warner Bros. or the Wachowskis. I don't care who is credited for what, I understand that those who worked on the project need to get due credit but at the end of the day I don't give a fY&=. I want to have some fun and except for Blizzard so far there is no company on whose reputation you could rely for buying games anyway. But I do agree that this is not really good for Capcom in PR terms.

Actually, the consensus seems to be that everybody hated Majora's Mask.
Except me. I liked it more than Ocarina of Time.

I thought about re buying the Wii version of this game but not now. How hard would it have been to play something like a special thanks to the original Okami team and roll the Clover credits(or even include the original ending credits as a bonus.

This is totally unacceptable. ready at Dawn did nothing but port the damn game; Clover deserves the majority of the credit for making it in the first place.

Clover did leave a mark for themselves in the game. If you have played both the wii and the ps2 version of the game, you will notice the clover plants all over the game. If you are a video game fan, you will notice that right away!! However, I was surprised at the end of the game because I was brought to the result screen right after the end of the ending movie. It is rather weak to not acknowledge the clover team for their work in this amazing title. Capcom should be ashame of themselves!! But what the heck, they owned the right to the game, I guess they can do anything that they want to!

I already refuse to buy this game until they remove the fucking IGN watermark. Now, I'm even less interested in buying it :\
I loved the original. I've been dying to replay the game, and I've been waiting for the Wii port. I want to support this game for the slim, slim chance of it making enough money that maybe, maybe, maybe some sort of continuation of the game's legacy. Maybe not a sequel, but a similar game would be nice.
So c'mon, Capcom. Seriously. Get your act together. Pleeeeease.

I'm really mad at Capcom. I'm also LIVID with RAD for other reasons. Namely, the fact that the port is buggy as hell, and nobody seemed to care about the hundreds of spelling and grammar errors, or the graphics glitches, the terrain glitches, and the million other things I found wrong that did not exist in the PS2 version. Capcom made a horrid choice in their QA outsourcing.
That said, the credits thing makes me even more livid. I just beat it tonight, and was eagerly looking forward to the credits rolling. It's one of the most beautiful ending themes in gaming history, and its charm, nostalgia and roundedness really tie up things perfectly for one of my favorite PS2 titles. I'm not sorry I bought it for the wii, but since Capcom disbanded Clover, I have lost all respect for them. I am boycotting all Capcom games. RE4 sucked, anyway.

What a disgusting and ungrateful move by both Capcom and RAD. If they really cared about preserving the artistic integrity of the masterpiece that is Okami, they could have found a way to keep the original credits in. I don't even understand from a legal perspective what the problem with using "Clover" is anyways since the company no longer exists. They could have just added a little text line above the logo that said "originally developed by:" or they could have phoned up Kamiya - I'm sure in the interests of preserving the staff roll he would have agreed to let them use it in the Wii version. Just a petty, petty move by Capcom and RAD. Corporate intellectual property theft is all this is, plain and simple.
