New Street Fighter IV screens punch out classic bosses

While Capcom's Street Fighter IV wowed us in February with its new fangled graphics and animation, it was the game's decidedly retro feel that grabbed us by the neck and assaulted our head like a barrage of Yoga Noogies. As it turned out, for all its 3D charm the fighter played like a sexed up Street Fighter II, which to be fair is just fine by us.

Now Capcom has released screenshots of Street Fighter II's bad guy quartet, Balrog, Bison, Sagat and Vega, all of whom make a return in the upcoming sequel. We can hardly wait to face down Vega's (or M. Bison for those of you with a name hang up) ever-annoying Psycho Crusher, something judging by the above pic has Ryu equally enthused.

I think the names are as follows:

Balrog in Japan = Vega in the States - dude w/ the claw
Vega in Japan = M.Bison in the States - psycho crusher
M.Bison (Mike Bison) = Balrog in the States - boxer

Name hangups ftw!

This was worded terribly.

American Bison is Vega
American Vega is Balrog
American Balrog is Bison.

It was changed because M.Bison looks in name and character like Mike Tyson. Capcom America avoided lawsuits, that they did.

personally I love it. If you watch the trailers in HD it looks like the best games ever. Though I put a lot of that down to them having awesome editors.

I'm somewhat torn on the art style. In some shots I think it looks fantastic, but in others I cant stand the sight of the character models in the slightest.

That and Chun Li is just awful all around.

Looks like you've got a name hang-up yourself, Jason. In neither version of the game, is the character with the psycho crusher named Balrog.

Oh hellZ yeah, this is gonna be so f-ing awesome, all you hatters shouldn't be allowed to touch this game when it comes out. I swear... have you even watched the gameplay videos?

Did anybody else catch that they are using some of the art style from the first teaser trailer now? The black splotches flying out like blood, it looks hella filthy.

I also really don't like the art style, ugh. Liked the ones from Alpha and 3 series. Way too pumped up with steroids.

with each new screenshot I get less & less excited about this game. what's up w/ the bugged out eyes look? what was wrong w/ SF3's art style? if they want cartoony, do SF Alpha style. 4's style is so dorky.

Uhh the art style makes me want to throw up everytime I see a screenshot of this game...

Its just sad how bad this game looks...and I've been begging for a new SF for years...

Oh well Soul Calibur is on the way. Plus Dead of Alive 5 is probably in the works for us 360 owners so I'll be satisfied with that.

I have to say I really like the style they're going with on this one. They could have tried to make them look realistic but this anime/cartoonish style has alot more energy.

Someone above said that they're looking forward to Soul Calibur IV more now, and I have to say I'm not sure what it is but I just can't get into the look of that one.

It's a very, very different game. Check out the vids of SF4 on youtube, the playstyle is much different.
