Developer Hothead Game just announced that Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One has gone gold for Windows, Mac and Linux. The press release is a good reminder that right now, somewhere in the world, someone is playing the full version of the game and you're not.
There, there, we know, it'll get better over time, promise ... okay, you're gonna need to stop making that whimpering noise, it's starting to get people's attention and it's embarrassing to both yourself and to us. PAA:OtRSPoD:E1 is due out "later this quarter" via their new Greenhouse download service for $20. The game is also coming to Xbox Live, potentially in another quarter, for 1600 MS points (US $20). In the meantime, enjoy some new wallpapers.

probably not. i've noticed they really don't care much for the ps3, once in a while they trash talk it, and tell all their readers to think similar. i know they have at least one and like some of the games on it, but they rarely praise it, and obviously go 360 every chance they get.

Maybe it's because they make money off their 360 skins that they haven't released a free official PS3 theme. Maybe it was the time that the PA guys called the PS3 "utter bullsh*t" (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/26/overheard-at-pax-ps3-price-is-some-grade-a-bullsh-t/)? Regardless, the fact that they're releasing a version for Linux and not PSN is saying something.

I stopped reading their comics when I realized they were a couple of Microsoft tools. The UT3 thing was the breaking point for me. The first time user-generated mods have come to a console and they just pissed all over it for no good reason, claiming you could only download them to memory sticks or some such BS.
Re the main article: $20? Seems a bit pricey for an episodic game of this sort. $5 seems more realistic.

Of course they are sellouts Lars.Read the article about AC negative reviews.
For enough money they can make you a comic of you being totally awesome and a hot stud a sh*t without doing any jokes about videogames.

Meh... the Penny Arcade guys are too full of themselves. Ever since their Assassin's Creed cartoon, I've grown weary of their sense of humor, also known as pointing out the obvious. (ie. DMC4 comics)

Well that's the thing. It's a fact that if this weren't from a hugely successful site then it wouldn't even be a blip on most people's radar.
However, we will soon see if the quality of writing and design is sufficient for one to say that it could stand on its own merits.
This will be the thrust of many a review come release.
I have faith that this will be the case.

Quality of writing?
I can tell you why this game will not be good right now.
Tycho and Gabe are vehicles for short jokes. As such any game based around a comic and vehicles for short jokes will simply be a game that is a vehicle for short jokes, not a real game for games sake.
Only fans will find this game worthwhile, and only fanboys will defend it.

If you want this to sell really good drop the price. $12 it should be.

Why not $3 dollars, then it would sell even more?
Tell me wise sage of economics how you determined that the tipping point occurs at $12 so that we might marvel in your brilliant calculations.

It can't be cheaper than regular XBLA games first of all or (according to MS) that would throw the world off its axis, 800 MS pts or 10$ is the standard that new games come out at $5 for older ports and such. This being something that is supposedly (marketed)as being above the regular xbla game it would only make sense to price it as such. few would want to spend an entire 1600pt card on 1 game evidenced by the comments here. 1000 pts or 12$ has not been done as far as I know. 1200 = xbox original and I don't know who buys them at that price.

It never really looked like it would be fun... but it looked like it might be funny. I'm getting bored of that brand of humor, though. Probably won't check this out, tbh.

I would be cool if as unlockables you could play as the real Gabe and Tycho. Playing as 2 overweight, possibly homosexual partners might make for more sales.

Have you seen the real "Gabe"?
I'm guessing 'no' if you think he is overweight.

I never understand why so many people whine about games they're not going to buy. Geez.
I'm excited about this game because, aside from the fact that it's incredible that a lowly little video game comic has grown to be what it is and could grow even bigger, the game has CUSTOM CHARACTERS! Customizable, playable avatars are always for the win.
FTW x 2 for Fruit Fucker.

Based on the comic, I can only assume that this game will be filled to the brim with unnecessarily flowery "look-at-me-I-own-a-thesaurus!" prose and cripplingly unfunny attempts at humor that hit *maybe* 10% of the time. I respect these guys for finally getting into making games, but I can't imagine them ever making one I'd actually want to play.

If you read Tycho's work and think he uses a Thesaurus, you've obviously never edited a college paper.
Thesaurus use is easier to detect than skin color. If you don't love the words, you won't treat them right.
Tycho loves the English language. It's obvious. His writing will not appeal to anyone but those who also share his love of lingual power. He openly admits this, and is self-mocking about it, as well.

So...if the game sucks does Penny Arcade make a webtoon about how much it sucked playing with themselves?

I'm sure they are going to webcomic about every stupid complain the game generates. For example if someone gave it a 6.0 for not having a chainsaw I'm sure they will do a comic about it.
The wonderful world of software complains gives you enough comical material to create your own webcomic and make it last for years to come.
