PS3 Burnout Paradise gets cartography update
For the second time in as many weeks the developers at Criterion have given players of the PS3 version of Burnout Paradise a little extra hug. However, this time, instead of simply leveling the playing field, the devs have announced that they're working on what's called the Save Game Analyser -- a fancy way of letting perfectionists look at what they have and have not accomplished in the game.
The feature will let players import Burnout Paradise saves from the PS3 using a USB drive or Memory Stick and onto the official Criterion website in order to view all of their unfinished business on the streets of Paradise City. A post on the Criterion website points out that the developers are putting the final coat of paint on the feature, and while no release date as been announced the post notes that it's expected to go live "imminently," which if we're lucky will give us just enough time to get our Hunter Citizen out of the shop.

So this is how PSN's Home will work!

I honestly don't see why they're doing this. All one has to do is look at the map.
umm....hello??? @ May 1st 2008 2:15AM
sooo....is this update going to be available for the x360 as well or what??
Schuey19 @ May 1st 2008 3:07AM
Already got it, they're called achievements.
Trev @ May 1st 2008 10:57AM
Schuey19:
Achievements generate a map of the things you missed? I think not.
"Based on [the imported save file], we create an interactive map that allows you to view the location of all incomplete discoverables. That includes Jumps, Smashes, Billboards, Junkyards, Body Shops, Paint Shops, Gas Stations and Car Parks."
The same achievements are in the PS3 version, but it's only "Found all..." and not "here's a map of what you have and haven't done". If I didn't already have all the stuff found/collected, this would be a huge benefit to me.

Umm, I think you guys are missing the point. This would allow you to basically find the locations of stuff you missed like tell you where to find the remaining jumps, smashes, etc.
Microswirl @ May 1st 2008 5:23AM
And that can't be put into the actual game because....???
Phranctoast @ May 1st 2008 5:46AM
probably because it's essentially cheating. They want to make you work a little to find out.

Hmmm, A nice feature I suppose but completely unnecessary if you ask me - how about they give us (both consoles) a restart button - so that we don't have to drive all the way back across the city to redo a race etc..

agreed

neat feature no matter how you look at it. Maybe they can't do this on 360 because of 360s inability to tranfer game saves on a flash drive? Not sure.
GRANTED @ May 1st 2008 8:42AM
i don't need you anymore. the car-crashing sandbox game genre is now dominated by gta4.
JerJer @ May 1st 2008 11:46AM
bwuh....you....ahha haha
hahahahahahahahaha
hey alex @ May 1st 2008 8:46AM
Yeah, I agree, looking at the map you should be able to determine what you have/haven't completed, so I guess this just gives you a way of being more thorough. But really a USB drive or memory stick to get the data to the website? Does that mean another PC is involved? Why not directly off the PS3's hard drive via PSN?
As far as useful additions, how about bring back classic crash mode instead of car bowling?
creid @ May 1st 2008 10:25AM
The map doesn't show billboards/smashes/jumps.

Less add-on widgets, and more voice chat fixing please. Voice chat has been unstable and unusable for a lot of people for over a month now:
