This ain't a scene, it's a Rock Band Weekly update post. Next week the band that people argue whether it's emo or not, Fall Out Boy, adds its song "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race" to the music store. Don't lie, when it's on the radio while you're driving you sing along. Actually, all the songs sound like fun if you're in a non-snob music mode.
My G/f loves them but she doesn't like much off the newer album. Im a fan of their first album but songs off their new one I can only tolerate for so long.
I like the fast pace of the Yeah Yeah song.
I've never been much of a fan of Angles and Airwaves. I was however a huge Tom Delonge fan in high school when he played with Blink 182. Now with the addition of this I am hopping for +44 when your heart stops beating or more Blink 182.
Not everyones music but then again I don't get Thrash music.
@Samfish. Everyone has different tastes, but for the most part i would agree with your asessment on Fall Out Boy and Angels and Airwaves.
Most people judge the Yeah Yeah Yeahs based upon Maps, which is decent, but not a great song. Date with the Night is a little bit more in line with how much they rock as a band. Rock Band needs to get more YYY, Interpol, Spoon, and other indie acts into the mix. It would greatly increase my interest in playing the game more often, otherwise it just kind of collects dust.
Hey now, just because it's not the album that you love doesn't mean you can consider it a failure. They each sold millions so... get over it and stop being so emo with this whining.
If selling millions means that you should be in Rock Band, then I guess I should also be looking for New Kids on the Block, Whitney Houston, and Hanson making their way into the game. Give me a break.
Here's hoping for an American Idol pack after the competition concludes! /sarcasm
How about we just say that I think these songs suck, you think they are great, and leave it at that instead of trying to justify their quality through sales numbers?
If I had kids and they added it, it would appeal to them more then the Thrash pack, Boston, or Still Alive. Monkeys sold millions and were considered garbage by the majority yet tons still bought and love to play "Last Train to Clarksville"
Hannah Montana sold millions too? Well, hate to say it but... FUCK YOU. Who cares who sold what. If you don't like the song, you can easily avoid it. If they put some Hannah Montana songs on there, you KNOW people will buy it.
I am so tired of hearing this whole "my band is cool cause they don't sell records" arguement." The moment they pressed that CD and put a price tag on it, they sold out. No amount of posturing or hating popular music changes that.
Grey Fox, Angels and Airwaves was formed by a Blink 182 member...
Sir, I don't think you understand what I was getting at. My comment was in response to MarkHawk's suggestion that Fallout Boy's platinum albums make their music worth listening to.
Just because you can sell shit doesn't make you a genius. It just means there's people dumb enough to buy it.
I do not mean to drag this war out any longer but I think I was misunderstood.
reiji When I made the comment about selling millions of albums it was to be implied that they have millions of fans. Why can't we let HMX appeal to these fans? In the case of the Monkeys song, (mentioned above) it get a lot of positive feedback and I assume good sales (based on # of positive comments I read) even though commercially the band the Monkeys was considered by many now to be a joke.
Sorry for confusion, I just do not see why HMX can't appeal to both mainstream and non-mainstream.
only problem is YYY are not well known... just another favorite of somebody at HMX and they made some damn deal like with the Mother Hips to put these unknown songs out. fack!
MarkHawk, I've witnessed your twelve year old banter long enough...these songs are a waste of hard drive space (aside from the YYY's song; it's not bad) and the only reason Fall Out Boy sold millions of records/shit bagels is because most 9-14 year old girls/girly boys can't figure out how to illegally download something so they are forced pay for it.
Heaven forbid somebody happens to have a differing taste in music than you.
Rock Band isn't going to get anywhere if it takes one very elitist group and tries to appeal to them. Because as you'll note, no matter WHAT is released each week there's always somebody such as yourself complaining about one thing or another.
The magic of RB? If you don't like a specific DLC song you don't have to buy it. And if few people buy a specific type of song, they won't release more like it.
Your whining about emo music. Stop being a hypocrite.
You don't have to download the songs. It's not going to be a waste of space if you ask me though. Im not a Huge fan of any of these bands but they fit my taste better then some of the previous content. Not to mention RockBand isn't just for you. This is one of the few games I can get my girlfriend to sit down and play for hours with me and if they are going to add songs I am glad they are not only appealing to you. Get over yourself because I know for a fact had I said the same thing about Judas Priest or some content you were looking forward to, that we wouldn't be having this conversation because you'd be jumping for joy.
Sorry for defending content some people may enjoy you selfish prick.
But what you missed is this kid saying "FU Buddy" to Samfish who disagree with his pipe-vision mentality. But hey, I'm glad to see you go to such great lengths to defend something/someone in such a manor. Really valiant. And you don't have to remind me about "economics and demand" work, I'm well aware of supply and demand.
In the end, I'll agree with you, T. I'm just, at the moment, piss-drunk with the annoying (and vast) span of Fall Out Boy. Also, for the record, I'm not a music snob who's jealous of the instant fame of Fall Out Boy as much as I am bewildered by the fact that they're a successful pool of sameness.
MarkHawk. Judas Priest? Judas Fucking Priest? Get real, Japan...
I too share the same experience of being able to sit down with my girlfriend and playing Rock Band for hours, so that I totally understand.
I guess after having heard the promise of The New Pornographers, The Strokes, Radiohead, and some select others, I got spoiled and assumed that the world had been magically rid of all things Fall Out Boy, Dancing With the Stars, and Paris Hilton. Alas, courtesy of next week's Rock Band update, I have been proven deeply wrong on one of three counts.
Sorry for being a Dick. Just didn't understand why I was being singled out but I can see how I was acting like a fan boy for a few minutes. Im with you on The New Pornographers, The Strokes, Radiohead though. Im still waiting for these additions I just got excited seeing Angles and Airwaves as they have never had a song released in RB. I really don't like them but one of the members is tied to a band I love currently hope to see in RockBand. Again got excited and sorry.
"Get real, Japan." It's this classic quote from the comedian Eugene Mirman. He's talking about ridiculous statements/religions from Japan...
But anyways, I too am sorry for jumping the gun. I, in retrospect, understand the fun of the song being played versus being listened to and regret blowing up.
And despite my anti-Fall Out Boy semantics I have played Dead on Arrival on Expert with my eyes closed on account of my girlfriend's desire to 100% that damn song on vocals. So, that too might be another source for my disdain...haha.
I think people need to let go of their egos a little with Rock Band. Yeah you may not ever buy a Fall Out Boy record but that doesn't change the fact that Dead On Arrival was a great song to include in Rock Band (for the drums alone.)
Give up the snobbery and give the songs a chance to be fun. The song doesn't have to be a timeless piece of art to be an excellent addition to Rock Band.
I wasn't saying that people should give up their opinions. I think people just tend to prejudge a lot of Rock Band songs even before seeing their note charts on youtube or playing them at a friend's.
I mean I don't listen to Coheed and Cambria but I think their songs are fun to play in Rock Band. You can have your opinions about the music but as with everything in life, give it a shot before you totally write it off.
Also it seems really pointless to go around posting "Argh Harmonix is screwing us again!" For every Fall Out Boy song you didn't download, someone else didn't download that Judas Priest song you love so much. Rock Band has delivered the most diverse catalog of songs of any music game so far. They have largely succeeded in delivering on their DLC promises.
FALL OUT BOY!?!? Man. Rock Band just made my fucking week.
It's very hip to hate Fall Out Boy, but they write the catchiest music I've ever heard.
(Thanks for pointing out the "non-snob music mode", by the way.)
Let me just say once and for all, that we are all very impressed by those of you who feel it necessary to say how crappy this music is. Okay? Do you feel better? We acknowledge you.
uh...I would say that it is actually the other way around, it is hip to love Fall Out Boy lately...
"but they write the catchiest music I've ever heard."
They can write? then please tell them to write in English next time? Seriously, I don't hate them (they were ok at the Nintendo Fusion Tour) but god, they need to make their lyrics more understandable, hell, many people make fun of them for that reason alone...
