It seems that Activision has stumbled across the correct formula for getting us to drop our drumsticks and don our trusty, dusty Les Paul peripherals -- a three-song DLC pack for
Guitar Hero III featuring the music of the
epic British prog-rock trio, Muse. As of May 8, "
Supermassive Black Hole" and "
Exo-Politics" from their 2006 album Black Holes and Revelations as well as the fan-favorite "
Stockholm Syndrome" from 2003's Absolution will be available to download for a heretofore unannounced price (we're assuming it will match the $6.25 price of former
GHIII packs). We've got videos for all three tunes after the jump -- go decide which ones are purchase-worthy! (Hint: All of them.)

Generic quote about how this should be in Rock Band
bearxor @ May 3rd 2008 4:43PM
How about just a generic quote of 'Too little, too late...'?
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ May 3rd 2008 5:21PM
Insert witty RB fanboy comeback...no wait somebody just did it for me.
brandon_r87 @ May 3rd 2008 5:32PM
I've got both, but I'd much rather see it in Rock Band. I love Muse, so I might pick this one up, but $6.25 seems expensive considering I won't even get to play the drums along with it, which is my favorite instrument to play.
Tiptup300 @ May 3rd 2008 9:36PM
Oh my god, an entire three-pack of songs!? We're in the modern age now!
Shagittarius @ May 5th 2008 11:09AM
Muse sucks. Their music to me sounds like 3 guys having a circle jerk, only instead of getting to the point and making themselves cum they talk about their play with themselves and offer encouragement to each other and it goes on for like 20 minutes and your like ok, quit waking off already and get to it, time to rock, then their is a spurt of 30 secs of worthwhile rock then they are finished.
These guys are musical wankers.
deaftly @ May 5th 2008 1:14PM
Shag, I like muse and I laughed at that comment. Their new album does blow though.

SONOFABITCH
Now I actually have to buy a GH3 song pack. Damn you, Activision!
[.sm0ke.] @ May 3rd 2008 5:03PM
My thoughts exactly.
Adam @ May 4th 2008 9:10AM
ditto
ApolloIV @ May 3rd 2008 5:03PM
I like Muse. I'll pirate it for my PC version. I mean sure I'll buy it :)))
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ May 3rd 2008 5:15PM
If you own the PC Version,
I would be interested in ScoreHero instead.
LuckyEMS @ May 3rd 2008 5:34PM
scorehero remove all songs that are actually put in game
the Frets guys have no such qualms however and you can just rip it straight in
Ethan @ May 3rd 2008 5:20PM
Large bloke=bassist. I always forget that one.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 3rd 2008 5:31PM
Muse rocks. I wish I could buy this for my Wii version. :(
[.sm0ke.] @ May 3rd 2008 8:18PM
Off-topic: It's driving me nuts. I've seen your avatar elsewhere, but I have no idea what it's from. What is it?
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 3rd 2008 8:19PM
It is the Radiohead bear, my friend.
jimy @ May 3rd 2008 11:49PM
Also off topic, but do you have the (picture) Book "Dead Children Playing?" I'm not a big Radiohead fan, but we went over the book in a class I took this semester and it was pretty interesting. It's by the artist who does all the cover art and such for the band, but you probably already knew that lol.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 4th 2008 1:44PM
No, I don't have that, but will seek it out immediately.
RavenPaul @ May 3rd 2008 5:51PM
Muse? Who cares?
[.sm0ke.] @ May 3rd 2008 5:57PM
Everybody but you.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 3rd 2008 6:00PM
[Insert musician you enjoy] who cares?
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ May 3rd 2008 6:11PM
@ Ceasaria
A lot of people...
Desert Eagle @ May 3rd 2008 6:12PM
@ RavenPaul: People who have a good taste in music instead of listening to the lovey-doey and emo rock music that somehow has managed to become popular among shallow teens and MySpace whores.
Good job Activision for giving us this pack, but unfortunately, even with this pack, it'll take some time for you to catch up to Rock Band. I could be wrong though, but we'll see soon what happens...
tc @ May 3rd 2008 6:56PM
you, evidently
tc @ May 3rd 2008 6:43PM
As a huge muse fan it's taking a lot of effort to not spout off about which songs would have been better suited.
But the fact that they're in there at all makes me tip my hat to Activision
cranium @ May 3rd 2008 7:13PM
i was thinking the same thing at first but i decided to listen more closely to each of these songs, paying attention to the guitar work and whether or not they would be fun to play, and i think these should be really good.
besides, if enough of us buy them itll make it more likely that either activision or harmonix will release more muse dlc
mr mobius @ May 4th 2008 11:31AM
Plug in Baby came to mind pretty fast. Any muse songs are a good thing in my opinion, except that I haven't any GHIII and if I get it, it'll be for Wii which doesn't have DLC atm. Knights of Cydonia is my favourite song to play on GHIII as it is.
RT @ May 3rd 2008 7:11PM
"We've got videos for all three tunes after the jump -- go decide which ones are purchase-worthy!" They better all be, because the GH3 primitive DLC packaging doesn't give you the option to buy any separately.
himynameisminh @ May 3rd 2008 8:15PM
Wii :(
John @ May 3rd 2008 8:15PM
Love muse, decent selection of songs as well. My first GH3 DLC will be bought...
JUK @ May 3rd 2008 8:27PM
This is the first time I've really missed wii DLC support. ;_;
Fyrecrypts @ May 3rd 2008 9:44PM
Love the songs, but why no Plug In Baby? I'll just assume it's in GH4, or whatever the hell they'll call that abomination.
Stuart Moulder @ May 3rd 2008 11:52PM
Finally some great content for GHIII. But yeah, Rock Band has been doing much better in general with DLC's than GHIII.
John @ May 4th 2008 2:26AM
Knights of Cydonia was awesome for GH3
FSK405K @ May 4th 2008 6:22AM
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! Now if Hysteria can just come out on Rock Band, I'll be in ecstacy! This is going to be the first whole pack I'll enjoy, no duds. Joystiq, you are the bomb for telling me that Activision is not complete worthless money-grabbing sequel makers.
mr mobius @ May 4th 2008 11:32AM
It's being picky but I'd prefer Origin of Symmetry to be a DLC album.
nilpotence @ May 4th 2008 8:49AM
Muse are an amazing band... but they are most certainly NOT prog. They are ifluenced by prog, but they aren't prog themselves.
That's just the nitpicky music geek in me, though.
That being said, I definitely have to pick up this pack, those are really good choices.
t_m @ May 5th 2008 10:26AM
I dunno, their first 2 albums definitely verged on the prog side... still liked them though. It wasn't until absolution that i got really hook though (which definitely isn't prog.
Frostfell @ May 4th 2008 11:43AM
WOW. I haven't been wishing for this pack for half a year or anything. Though I would have preferred Hysteria to Exo-Politics
Ninja_Nun @ May 4th 2008 2:16PM
The middle guys vacant smile is slowly stealing my soul...
Greg @ May 4th 2008 3:43PM
These are great, but where the fuck is Assassin.
I want Assassin.
FSK405K @ May 4th 2008 6:34PM
Ya, Activision is awesome for putting Muse on, but the first two have to be about the most mainstream-sounding Muse songs there are. Why couldn't the pack be Micro Cuts, Take a Bow, Assassin?
t_m @ May 5th 2008 10:28AM
Do we get an addon for the awesome scratch-pad he has on his guitar? I want one of those...
BoBoTheChimp @ May 5th 2008 11:05AM
"Time Is Running Out", where the fuck are you?
Martez @ May 5th 2008 11:40AM
Holy crap, they came out with a triple-pack of GOOD songs?
ninjacat11 @ May 5th 2008 3:54PM
While they're at it, they really, really need to get The Mars Volta and Primus on there.
FSK405K @ May 8th 2008 12:42PM
It's May 8th. It's after noon Eastern. When will this pack be available?!
FSK405K @ May 8th 2008 1:23PM
Now available, finally.
