We've absolutely lost count of how many times Microsoft has had to deny rumors of an Xbox 360 with Blu-ray drive, but here's another one. Following a resurgence in the rumor last week, GamePro was told today by a Microsoft official that the company continues to have no plans of introducing a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360.
The statement goes on to say that "games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and [Microsoft] remains focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available." OK, that's good and all, but if the Blu-ray thing is out, could the NetfliXbox 360 idea still be on the table?

"because it it primarily being bought by many many people to be used strictly as a Blu-Ray player."
Proof? Or just cause you say so?

If you need proof your beyond help, wake up and look around you. Even Sony markets it as the cheapest bluray player! That's not to say that it doesn't have good games and such, it's a great media system.

It's worth noting that there are two very large barriers in the way of a 360 Blu-ray drive that most people don't realize exist. Both are the result of Microsoft business practices.
First, to even have a Blu-ray player, Microsoft would be required by the Blu-ray Disc Association to include support for the BD-J interactivity layer, which is based on Sun Java technology. Given the amount of bad blood between Sun and Microsoft, this is extremely unlikely.
The other obstacle is that in addition to BD-J, Microsoft would also be required by the BDA to include support for the Blu-ray DRM scheme, which is called BD+. This is again unlikely because Microsoft has been a very outspoken critic of BD+ since it's creation, preferring instead another DRM scheme called AACS (Microsoft and Sony both belong to the consortium that developed AACS). Additionally, since BD+ requires a small virtualized environment in which to run executable code, the security architecture of the 360 may actually make this impossible. If the player is external, the firmware update required would be Very Significant (with capitols!), and therefore also Very Scary to do.
So given these two rather large things to deal with, and also given the enormous investment Microsoft has already made with Xbox Live, it's conceivable that over the wire may be the way Senior Ballmer chooses to go with HD content on the 360. XBOX 720 EXTREME MEDIA GAMING PLATFORM 2010 .NET EDITION will probably include a Blu-ray drive, but for this console it isn't going to happen very easily.

And that's all I need to know about why bluray is not important to the videogame industry.

I dont see how selling PS3 as a BD player at a loss is helping Sony, when they intended to recoup the money from game royalties which are not coming. BD trojan horse in the PS3 was important to beat HDDVD (yeah, remember that one), but now that it happened so quickly, Sony is stuck with having to sell a product at a loss for no good reason until PS3 production and marketing costs drop below price.
I dont think their BD royalties will recoup the loss for a long long time.
Source: logic based on absolutely no fact - i.e. speculation.

M'soft doesn't need Blu-Ray, DVD seems sufficient for the rest of this generation. Seeing how big GTAIV is, I don't see why a bigger optical format is needed.
Besides the fact that M'soft doesn't want to include any of Sony's technology into there hardware. One complaint is the cost of the 360 though, w/ the PS3's ability to play Blu-Ray I just think dollar for dollar its a better deal.

Said it before: The won't admit it until it's available because to do so would be to shoot themselves in the foot and kill sales of the existing SKUs.
No company would telegraph the release of a significantly improved produce while they're still trying to sell the current model. That's just awful marketing.
