In much the same way that one might admire the Lillberg sofa-bed in an IKEA before throwing a mid-riot brick through the window, Ubisoft says it was impressed with the Wii's capabilities while bringing Prince of Persia: Rival Swords (by its own admission a "quick and dirty port") to the console. Nintendic reports that the company told Edge magazine that it would like to return the Persian prince to Nintendo's box, only (and presumably) it would put some actual effort into it this time.
Ubisoft is also emphatic that this game, if ever given the green light, wouldn't be a port of the recently announced next-gen entry. In fact, it said, that will "never happen." So ... can we put that down for a "maybe?"

Flameware is just the codename for the PS3 version of a game. Beacuse you know when its announced the game is delayed the PS3 version will take the heat in the subsequent flame wars.

Nothing to flame about. This makes complete sense. Wii doesn't want gimped ports of next gen games.
Wii needs games designed from the ground up for the strengths of the system. If games are made for the 360/PS3 and ported, they are not made for the Wii. They are made for multi-core processors, tons of RAM and HD graphics. Not for 2xGC components.

In reality... It probably would have sucked anyway...
I mean being a port, I'm sure the non crappy port will be awesome.

My little brother just got an Xbox so I'm not too bummed about this...
...having said that, while not wishing for identical catalogues across all three home consoles, it would be nice if 3rd party developers started putting a real effort in on the Wii. Of all three home consoles, the Wii, in my opinion, has the most potential. It's definitely the most fun. But certain 3rd party developers just don't seem to get it. I mean, why the constant brush off? - as I used to say to a particular girl.
But then again, I don't buy Ubisoft games, so maybe I'm part of the problem.

Do you guys just read the headlines? This is good news for the Wii. They said they would do an original version for the Wii not a quick and dirty port.

Yes, but the good news here is that Ubisoft has already admitted they made poor efforts with both of those games. Here they are basically saying that they would like to try again at some point in the future and this time put some real effort into the title. They don't want to simply do a stripped down port of the upcoming 360/PS3 game.

Naa, never say never. If it runs well, and enough people ask for it, Ubi may think about this again. I may not be likely, but I wont rule it out.

This is a really good thing, finally a commitment to actually put some creativity into a Wii game.
Even if they did allow a port, I wouldn't want it to sell well because that would make them put less and less effort into future Wii games.
Either way, I'll be buying the 360 or PS3 version of the game, hopefully the Wii will get an amazing game as well.

Damn that sucks...
But then again not so much if you have a 360 and Wii. I'm not really surprised.
The headline though just begs for a war...lol. Pretty harsh Ubisoft...

Winner here.
It's not the Wii's fault that traditional developers can't think outside the box of develop formulaic game->port->port->sequel using same assets->port->port.

Well honestly I'd rather a new Prince of persia game for the Wii. Not a port with waggle

Good.
The Wii doesn't need more ports with tacked on controls. The Wii needs games that are built with the systems strengths in mind, not ports of games that were built with other systems strengths in mind.
When this starts happening, you'll start seeing some very compelling games.

Yeah, the Force Unleashed looks like it might be pretty hot and it's my understanding that it's not a port of the other versions, but was built specifically for the Wii. We shall see.
This really seems to be the best way to "deal" with the Wii in a, developing for multi-platforms, sense.

This is a good thing if they
A) Actually do it
B) Do it right and give it to a team that doesn't completely suck.
But it's Ubisoft and anyone who has a Wii knows to be wary of anything Ubisoft says by now.
...we're still waiting on this 'Nintendo-like quality games' from them still, after all.
...although Catz 2 was pretty good.

'A' is what came to mind for me, too. It sounds more like they're saying "if we don't do a Wii Prince of Persia game, it's because we didn't want to make a port."
Aside from that, it seems hard to believe that they'd screw up PoP, their single consistently good franchise.

Alright bad ports are bad,but no ports is worse and COMON Ubi,wiis got litle serios games and lots of players so everyone wins imrite?
If it IS ported,a good port would be the ideal with real use of the wiimote OR none at all, waggle for the sake of waggle got old and anoying.
And a new game for wii? it SOUNDS cool bt the last times the wii has goten special games like SoulCalibur well,it suckd for wii.
Ubi,just port the game, dont try to be cool.

On the other hand, if they gave the ports to the A-Team, that would guarantee success.
