In advance of this Thursday's release of Activision's Q4 financial results, Wedbush Morgan analyst extraordinaire Michael Pachter expects Activision's sales were up 88% this quarter over last year, based on NPD data. GameDaily reports Activision's guidance expected revenues of about $350 million this quarter, but Pachter believes it's more like $425 million.
Pachter further notes that Activision may see revenues decline this fiscal year as sales from Guitar Hero III and Call of Duty 4 wane, though the big thing for investors remains the approaching merger with Vivendi Games. Activision Blizzard should be a reality in the next few weeks and Pachter maintains a "Buy" rating on the company.

What I love is that this guy went to school for years to make the same predictions I can make without even thinking.
What I hate is that this guy actually gets paid to state the obvious.

But could you have thrown out that $425M number? Or decide whether their stock is still a strong buy or downgraded to simply a buy? You realize that Joystiq summarizes the bare minimum of the economic analysis in these articles, in order that their core readers, such as yourself, will get the gist and feel good about themselves. It's akin to that Forbes article posted earlier where, in order to dumb it down for their audience, the message got stripped down to "GTA IV will sell lots; GTA IV is not on Wii." Thinking that "Actavishun will make moniez" is the extent of a Pachter report is absolutely foolish.

I could throw out random numbers easy enough, I mean look at the post under mine. Pachter isn't always right, sometimes he's completly off.

Pachter continues to state the obvious and get paid for it. Also from this, "Analyst Extraordinaire"....
"When GTA 3 came out, I had a 325,000 unit estimate, so I only missed by about 20 million units." - Michael Pachter
"Warcraft is so good and so good-looking that it got this immediate attraction; everybody who would ever consider playing an online game said, 'This is the one. I gotta try it.' And what'll happen is inevitably, like the health club model, after you pay your 30 bucks a month for 3 or 4 months and you only go once a week, you realize it's not worth it and you split. That's what will happen with Warcraft ... I think it's going to roll back to a million. I'm not predicting it's going to happen in three weeks; I'd guess it has a half-life of 6 months to a year," - Michael Pachter
Stop reporting what this dipshit says as news.

Pachter's job isn't to make public predictions. People pay him/his company to help them make decisions like where to invest.
So I guess I agree that his predictions shouldn't be posted as news, but stop getting all pissy and dissing him like he thinks he's making big news and shocking gamers with his predictions. That's not his job.

The merger isn't completely done until June. This year will be a little slower until SC2. Hopefully ATVI doesn't become a one trick pony for another year.

When is this douchebag going to really go out on a limb and make a real "prediction."
Every time he talks, it's like, yeah, duh. GTAIV will be the biggest game of 2008. Wii shortages will continue into the Summer. Especially after Wii Fit releases. What a moron. Can I make some predictions and get a headline on Joystiq?

I think the main reason for thinking is because *gasp* Wrath of the Lich King will be out by then. And I know im not the only who will be restarting their account a week or two before release to prep myself for the time slog i will be going into.
WoW is going through a down time right now with all the new patches aimed solely at the "hardcore" players, more than a few have left for a bit. If i went on right now my guild would be dead. When WotLK hits, i guarantee my guild will be very active again. I cant wait.
