This Wednesday: Wits & Wagers abets XBLA lineup

This Wednesday's Xbox Live Arcade addition is "trivia party game," Wits & Wagers. That's what it says in the headline. Not conveyed in the bold line of text is that the game offers 700 different questions -- none of which you necessarily need to know the answers to. You see, the trick is to place bets on the answers which you think are "closest to the truth." There's also "dancing characters and upbeat music" to look forward to, so that's nice.

Wits & Wagers (only available in the US, UK and Canada) supports 4-player couch play, 2-6 players online, as well as those wacky camera and big button peripherals you have hooked up to your Xbox 360. But how much is it?

Hate to point it out, but this seems to be a blatant copy of a TV game-show called Duel. Look it up, it's actually quite entertaining.

Daniel, the Wits & Wagers board game came out before the television game show called Duel. And I think Duel is different enough from Wits & Wagers that it does not break any of our patents.

oh, i get it ... its a riddle.

* $1,000,000 - lol, i don't think so.
* 239 Wii Points - Again, doubtful. I think you overestimate the Wii's graphical power.
* 13 pieces of eight - I are confused.
* 800 MS Points - For this POS, that price can't be right, either.
* The Truth - FFS, JUST GIVE ME THE ANSWER!@$#

13 pieces of eight is a Pirates of the Caribbean reference (3rd movie if I remember correctly).

Uh nvm, that is supposed to be 9 pieces of 8.

So I can watch a guy play with his hairy balls AND play this game at the same time?

I'm sold.

Hmm.. Get more use out of my big button controllers???

I might have to investigate this title.

Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Wits & Wagers...never thought XBLA could be used so well for board games.

One might even say it is a paradigm shift for video games. ;)

Shovelware, seriously, these people will be in trouble when the superior FREE xna games are released.

XNA games are not going to be free, Microsoft will be selling the best games that are voted by the XNA creators club and giving a portion to the creator.

Um, no. It will be totally free. Don't comment unless you know what your talking about. Microsoft said they may have a system for people to have the ability to sell xna games, as of current there is no legal method.

Learn before preaching.

Of course the answer is the one closest to "The Truth." That's really clever! But I wouldn't expect anything less from Ludwig.

It'd be neato to see a decently rated game come out for XBLA, but I haven't seen anything terribly worthy of picking up as of late.

I could have some fun with folks over if this is decent.

The boardgame version is actually a lot of fun. I'm not at all sold on it's value as a digital property though. I can't imagine it being much fun when played online.

I have the board game this is based on. It's a lot of funa round a table. Not sure how well it will translate to the console.

Oh -- and TipTup300, if you really think the XNA games are going to be anything but a huge pile of crap, I have a bridge to sell you.

Isn't Bionic Commando going to be released in the xlive the exact same day?

This should be tagged as shovelware.

Yuck. Where is the fun stuff like Castle Crashers and Bionic Commando? Heck, even Undertow was better than this.

...700 questions? Wow, that sounds like it might last a few games.

It sounds like people already know that Wits & Wagers was originally a board game. It went nationwide at Target in 2007 and has won more industry awards than any other party game in history. This is why Wits & Wagers is coming out on the Xbox. I have played the Xbox version 25+ times and I think it translated pretty well (except perhaps in single player mode).

A preliminary contract has also been signed to turn Wits & Wagers into a TV game show.

The board game is crazy fun. Hope this translates well since I am gonna drop $10 bucks on it. If it is close to as good as the board game, it will be a nice addition to the collection.
