Valve's multiplayer survival-horror romp Left4Dead is due out later this year, but it won't be coming to the PlayStation 3. Said Valve's Doug Lombardi, "We're not PS3 developers -- we're doing PC and 360 like with Orange Box" (Via CVG). He said that Valve would consider a PS3 port if L4D ends up a success and if another dev wanted "to take on that investment and risk" to port the game.
Lombardi explained that the PS3 port of Orange Box came about after Electronic Arts offered to do the port -- and we've all heard the story of that one.

I really am not a fan of zombie games, and I was never a fan of Counterstrike...
But I love Valve too much not to give this a shot.

After Brawl is out this is pretty much the last game I'm waiting for.

This, Starcraft II, Spore...
That's really it for me. Man, some of the great FPS from this year might have done well to hold off for a bit. No competition.

After playing countless hours of GMod Zombie Survival, I have extremely high hopes for this game.

Shit yeah! Although I don't think my tactic in flying round in a magic dumpster with spinning blades on it would work this time round.

Yeah... I really hated Gmod's Zombie Survival mod... 1) because it was extremely one sided; 2) it was made by Jetboom- the guy who made both Facehook and Racehook lua viruses- Facehook would delete HAL.dll WHILE explorer.exe was running- damn near impossible to do- the guy knew what he was doing, no doubt, but I will hate him forever for trying to kill RP.
HAL.dll is the .dll that Windows uses to boot when you turn on your computer. Without that, you need to reinstall Windows- no other way around it if you've turned off or restarted without it. If you notice it before you turn off/restart, just download a new one and reinstall it and delete Gmod and reinstall. The thing that is amazing is that if explorer.exe is running, its supposed to be impossible to delete it but Facehook does it. Those who still play Gmod 9 (maybe Gmod 10 still has similar lua viruses), do not join servers where the names look jumbled.

Haven't read to much about this game, but the gameplay looks decent and the idea of super-zombies is cool. It be great if they were super-smart AI zombies, climbing things and working together to get you. I want a game where I feel like I have to work to outsmart the enemies.

I think they should consider talking to Gearbox. Think about it, they're doing Wii development right now, and they were responsible for porting valve products in the past.

He doesn't want to take a financial risk, dumbass. He doesn't see the pay-off. Someone who wants to take it on probably does. It has nothing to do with ass to mouth. I'm shocked you didn't type MS like M$.
What about GT 5? Oh, they are not going to port it to the Xbox? Man, someone has Sony's dick up to their kidneys, amirite?

"We're not PS3 developers" should really read "I personally hate the PS3" because that's what's happening here for some reason...

Or they don't want to expend time and resources programming for a platform that won't produce the returns they want. Cross platforming isn't the best choice for many companies this generation, a focused effort is.

Well then why doesn't he say that instead of providing comments that can just fuel flame wars? I'm talking about his comment made to EGM in particular, because this one seems pretty calm.

Dunno, but given someone has made some retarded comment about one console or another (the Ghostbusters one last week for example), if you really had a problem with this one, you'd have a problem with the rest of them and swear off gaming entirely. Just goes with the territory.

Laughingtarget,
Most companies would want to expand and maximize their profit potential. Valve has stayed the same size for years and decide to limit their profitability. To each their own.

Yes, but to maximize profit potential you have to spend money. Why take the risk when you are making money right now? They feel good where they are at.
Could have said what he said a little nicer though. Whatever.

Their size is kinda the point. They're making a killing as a digital distributor. At this point, hiring new staff just to put out a console version of a game that will make up a small portion of its overall sales isn't particularly wise. The 360 makes sense with its overall similar structure to a PC. There just is no point in learning to make a PS3 game with the Cell not making any in-roads anywhere beyond the PS3. Cell isn't going to show up in home PCs, where Steam is located, so why learn what is effectively a hobbyist system?

The bigger an organization, the less control you have. Large companies have to introduce that death-knell of all creativity and productivity:
Middle management.

Because we all know great the Orange Box for PS3 turned out, don't we?
Valve have got to be the shittiest game company on the planet.
