Valve: Left4Dead will come to PS3 if another dev wants to port it
Valve's multiplayer survival-horror romp Left4Dead is due out later this year, but it won't be coming to the PlayStation 3. Said Valve's Doug Lombardi, "We're not PS3 developers -- we're doing PC and 360 like with Orange Box" (Via CVG). He said that Valve would consider a PS3 port if L4D ends up a success and if another dev wanted "to take on that investment and risk" to port the game.
Lombardi explained that the PS3 port of Orange Box came about after Electronic Arts offered to do the port -- and we've all heard the story of that one.

Can't wait for this 4 player co-op zombie blastin' game!
No solid release date yet? :(
mcatrage @ May 5th 2008 10:41PM
Are you familiar with Valve time? If this game comes out in 2008 we're all very lucky.
Obie @ May 5th 2008 11:08PM
Well the game was developed by Turtle Rock studios, Valve is just the publisher. Still, they can take their time...it will be worth it in the end.
Tim The Enchanter @ May 5th 2008 11:16PM
Hells yeah Obie. I'd rather them take their time and do it right. This looks damn good.
Jeff @ May 5th 2008 7:07PM
I really am not a fan of zombie games, and I was never a fan of Counterstrike...
But I love Valve too much not to give this a shot.
TheHuntIsOn @ May 5th 2008 7:08PM
After Brawl is out this is pretty much the last game I'm waiting for.
Jeff @ May 5th 2008 7:10PM
This, Starcraft II, Spore...
That's really it for me. Man, some of the great FPS from this year might have done well to hold off for a bit. No competition.
Einhanderkiller @ May 5th 2008 7:13PM
After playing countless hours of GMod Zombie Survival, I have extremely high hopes for this game.
Poisoned Al @ May 6th 2008 7:53AM
Shit yeah! Although I don't think my tactic in flying round in a magic dumpster with spinning blades on it would work this time round.
Zeus.:God @ May 6th 2008 8:58AM
Yeah... I really hated Gmod's Zombie Survival mod... 1) because it was extremely one sided; 2) it was made by Jetboom- the guy who made both Facehook and Racehook lua viruses- Facehook would delete HAL.dll WHILE explorer.exe was running- damn near impossible to do- the guy knew what he was doing, no doubt, but I will hate him forever for trying to kill RP.
HAL.dll is the .dll that Windows uses to boot when you turn on your computer. Without that, you need to reinstall Windows- no other way around it if you've turned off or restarted without it. If you notice it before you turn off/restart, just download a new one and reinstall it and delete Gmod and reinstall. The thing that is amazing is that if explorer.exe is running, its supposed to be impossible to delete it but Facehook does it. Those who still play Gmod 9 (maybe Gmod 10 still has similar lua viruses), do not join servers where the names look jumbled.
vidGuy @ May 5th 2008 7:21PM
Haven't read to much about this game, but the gameplay looks decent and the idea of super-zombies is cool. It be great if they were super-smart AI zombies, climbing things and working together to get you. I want a game where I feel like I have to work to outsmart the enemies.
Jake11 @ May 5th 2008 7:27PM
if you want that, play civ4 or galciv2. i feel like zombies shouldnt be all that smart
Obie @ May 5th 2008 7:54PM
Nah Zombies should be stupid and their numbers should be the primary danger. If they are smart and use teamwork they wouldn't be very zombie-like, would they? ;)
ww3ace @ May 23rd 2008 10:39PM
the so called "superzombies" are controlled by humans, its basically 4v4 w/ cannonfodder
rockintom @ May 6th 2008 10:13AM
kekekeke... zombie rush?
Laser123454321 @ May 5th 2008 7:32PM
I think they should consider talking to Gearbox. Think about it, they're doing Wii development right now, and they were responsible for porting valve products in the past.

I guess after living for thirteen years you're still retarded, cheese.
playwhutyalike @ May 5th 2008 7:40PM
He doesn't want to take a financial risk, dumbass. He doesn't see the pay-off. Someone who wants to take it on probably does. It has nothing to do with ass to mouth. I'm shocked you didn't type MS like M$.
What about GT 5? Oh, they are not going to port it to the Xbox? Man, someone has Sony's dick up to their kidneys, amirite?
playwhutyalike @ May 5th 2008 7:43PM
Please, PS3 fans and Xbox fans.
Don't feed this post.
Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.

you see, is better now.
Paulmichael @ May 5th 2008 7:45PM
"We're not PS3 developers" should really read "I personally hate the PS3" because that's what's happening here for some reason...
LaughingTarget @ May 5th 2008 7:58PM
Or they don't want to expend time and resources programming for a platform that won't produce the returns they want. Cross platforming isn't the best choice for many companies this generation, a focused effort is.
Paulmichael @ May 5th 2008 8:01PM
Well then why doesn't he say that instead of providing comments that can just fuel flame wars? I'm talking about his comment made to EGM in particular, because this one seems pretty calm.
LaughingTarget @ May 5th 2008 8:06PM
Dunno, but given someone has made some retarded comment about one console or another (the Ghostbusters one last week for example), if you really had a problem with this one, you'd have a problem with the rest of them and swear off gaming entirely. Just goes with the territory.
Matt B @ May 5th 2008 8:29PM
Laughingtarget,
Most companies would want to expand and maximize their profit potential. Valve has stayed the same size for years and decide to limit their profitability. To each their own.
playwhutyalike @ May 5th 2008 8:41PM
Yes, but to maximize profit potential you have to spend money. Why take the risk when you are making money right now? They feel good where they are at.
Could have said what he said a little nicer though. Whatever.
LaughingTarget @ May 5th 2008 8:46PM
Their size is kinda the point. They're making a killing as a digital distributor. At this point, hiring new staff just to put out a console version of a game that will make up a small portion of its overall sales isn't particularly wise. The 360 makes sense with its overall similar structure to a PC. There just is no point in learning to make a PS3 game with the Cell not making any in-roads anywhere beyond the PS3. Cell isn't going to show up in home PCs, where Steam is located, so why learn what is effectively a hobbyist system?
Poisoned Al @ May 5th 2008 10:22PM
The bigger an organization, the less control you have. Large companies have to introduce that death-knell of all creativity and productivity:
Middle management.
hotnutz @ May 6th 2008 1:19AM
@ LaughingTarget
wow.. I think you get the flamebait comment of the week award. Congrats, you get a free XBL game of your choice!
LameDuck @ May 5th 2008 7:49PM
P.S.
DangerMouse @ May 5th 2008 7:50PM
Having a console with 3 cores @ 3.2ghz is one thing, but two cocks is downright impressive.
Negativecool @ May 5th 2008 7:53PM
God, just don't let EA's talentless lazy ass hands get a hold of it and port it...
*cough* Gimped port of a 4 YEAR OLD GAME, Half-Life 2 *cough*
Matt B @ May 5th 2008 8:26PM
Looking forward to the superior PC version. Thanks for not making me want to buy a 360 again, Valve.

Infinity Ward, Insomniac and others have managed to... maybe he should petition Microsoft to port DirectX and make his life easier?
CJLopez @ May 5th 2008 9:35PM
Just gonna wait for the PC version
Thanks Valve, for not making me buy a 360 to play yer magnificent games!!!!
SavoyPrime @ May 5th 2008 10:05PM
Honestly, I'm tired of hearing Valve whine about the PS3.
Poisoned Al @ May 5th 2008 10:25PM
Since when has "we couldn't be arsed" been classed a whining? All the whinging I hear is from butt-hurt PS3 owners.
Ninjakamster (PSN: Chin-Poh) @ May 5th 2008 10:43PM
We whine, not whing. : )
Ninjakamster (PSN: Chin-Poh) @ May 5th 2008 10:44PM
Yay for being a spelling Nazi!
Can you blame us for whining when every developer hates our system. ; )
OTAM @ May 5th 2008 10:56PM
Basically. You would think a triple A group like Valve would be thrilled to take this new console setup and run with it,but are apparently more worried about the checkbook at the end of the day.
I own a 360 and PS3 and even i'm sick of hearing Valve whine about the Playstation.
TheHuntIsOn @ May 6th 2008 4:16AM
That's alright I'm tired of devs with less than stellar reputations slagging off the Wii, but I don't vocalise it around like all these knobbish PS3 fanboys.
And it's a chequebook. Checkbook, as in book full of checks to make?
Poisoned Al @ May 6th 2008 6:31AM
What's worse then a spelling Nazi? A crap spelling Nazi with a limited vocabulary ;)
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=whinging
Zeus.:God @ May 6th 2008 9:11AM
OTAM, it doesn't surprise me that VALVe, a PC game company, doesn't want to work to learn to program for an overly complicated system that in the end wouldn't benefit them. Moreover, its a system that will be obselete in a matter of years with new systems around the corner, that will likely use a more conventional setup, more in line with PCs.
Honestly, the Cell is a GIMMICK, and compared to the 360, is only better in a few certain aspects- but not enough to make a difference.
