Blizzard store relaunched with digital downloads
Blizzard has launched a new online store, selling games (both digital and off the grid), books, collectibles, limited apparel and more. The store is now also offering titles for digital download -- right now only Starcraft and Warcraft III (as well as their respective expansion packs) are available, but according to this handy F.A.Q., more will be made available later.
As noted by WoW Insider, registering for the store enters you into a lottery to partake in an upcoming beta such as Wrath of the Lich King, Starcraft II or the as-of-yet unannounced (but we dream so very much) Rock and Roll Racing MMO.

I hear they sell the souls of those who play WoW for only $19.95.

You know, ever since my brother stole my StarCraft discs back in the day and scratched the fuck out of them I've been thinking of buying it again... Maybe I'll just do it this way, get me pumped for some SC2 down the line.

I'm in a similar situation. Loaned Diablo 2 to my cousin and have never seen it since. Still have the expansion though. If they offer that online, I'd probably get it.

You can get both the standalone game/xpack and the battlechest, so if you just want one you can get it.

Is there a way to register your games like with Steam, so that if you ever lose your discs you don't have to pay for them again? (Of course, I've got my CD keys safely stored in digital form which is all that really matters, because if I do lose my discs and need to reinstall I could just borrow someone else's discs and use my keys. But it would be nice if they made it more like Steam, or heck just worked with Valve to add their stuff to Steam. Not that I use Steam very much, but the concept is great to me.)

Supposedly you can, although I have yet to figure out how.

Hmm, I just made an account- by the way, it's worth it to make an account if for no other reason than they add you to their beta lottery- and in the account options there's a thing for my games. Unfortunately it's greyed out until you verify your email address, and I haven't gotten an email yet so I don't know whether it lets you just enter your CD key or whether it has to be something you bought through the blizzard store online.

Email verification doesn't arrive even after 12+hours.

Same, I registered yesterday morning, and still have not gotten any email (even checked the web mail, just to make sure it was not grabbed by a junk filter).
iofthestorm @ May 7th 2008 7:44PM
Yeah, I registered last night and still haven't gotten an email. Seems like their mailservers are borked or something.
nutman @ May 7th 2008 10:16AM
I don't get it. You would think Digital downloads would be the same price or maybe even a little less than the physical copy. This is actually more expensive. The Wc3 battle chest is $30 brand new everywhere,

iofthestorm @ May 7th 2008 7:47PM
Damn you, I was going to make that comment last night but then I forgot about it. You win, sir.
iofthestorm @ May 13th 2008 8:48PM
Hmm, I randomly found this page again and now the email confirmation works, for anyone wondering.
