EA Sports unveils 'Freestyle' brand

The first title releasing this September in this all-inclusive sports brand is the arcade-style boxing game with the family-friendly name FaceBreaker. Yup, there's no better title to launch a casual sports brand than a game called FaceBreaker. Because nothing says "playful, inclusive, casual and easy to pick up" than FaceBreaker.

are you being sarcastic?
Nick the Hero of Canton @ May 6th 2008 9:41PM
Electronic Arts was the best name they had. They need to use that again...
WiNG [Life in a Game] @ May 6th 2008 9:44PM
A+ writing, haha. FACEBREAKER.
Next EA Game: BALLSMASHER
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 7th 2008 1:29AM
I'VE GOT BALLS OF STEEL
brandon_r87 @ May 6th 2008 9:49PM
With a logo that huge, we'll be luck to read what the name of the actual game is. Either that or it gets shrunk so small you can't read EA at the bottom.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 6th 2008 9:52PM
I don't know how you can make a sports game more easy to pick up and play than madden. Even special people can play decently.
Markez (MKWii 4339-2878-5120) @ May 6th 2008 10:00PM
You're joking right? I think you're clueless if really you believe the latest Madden is actually 'pick up n play' to someone with no experience on the game.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 6th 2008 10:03PM
You must blow bad at the game then cause it's so poorly designed on defense anyone can hop in and throw a 50 yard TD against another player.
copa @ May 6th 2008 10:12PM
I must blow bad at the game, too.
Because I've played Madden off and on since '92, and I found the latest iteration very inaccessible. The controls for that game are complex, and if you want to do offensive or defensive adjustments before the snap it takes a lot of practice to get things working the way you want.
Markez (MKWii 4339-2878-5120) @ May 6th 2008 10:12PM
Oh, I didn't know that's all you can do control wise in the game, guess I didn't know it was just a button masher game, using only a cuppla buttons.
If that's all a person can ever do in the game and be happy playing it, than sure, I guess it's a 'pick up n play' game.
ChooChooCharlie (MK 0430-8740-2222) @ May 6th 2008 10:17PM
Yeah, I only play my at my cousin's on holidays and I somehow manage to beat him at least 50% of the time. (And I have zero interest in / knowledge of football other than the basic rules.)
My super secret strategy:
1) Pick a high ranked team
2) Pick a play that looks cool
3) Pass the ball
4) Mash on the sprint button
5) TD
6) Go for the PAT

I'm still pondering why anyone would buy a Madden game year after year. Do you still buy Madden tmacairjordan, because I remember you complaining about how Nintendo puts out the same game time after time...
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 6th 2008 10:24PM
I must be below the level of retard then.
Give me Tecmo Bowl or even Cyberball instead.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 6th 2008 10:57PM
I haven't bought madden since 04, but I've gameflyed 07 and 08 and it's still as easy to play as 04 was (without using vick the dick)
GRANTED @ May 7th 2008 10:03AM
you are all dumb. it all depends on the difficulty level. on the easier 2 levels, everyone catches everything.
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 6th 2008 9:57PM
Facebreaker? What pinheads.
copa @ May 6th 2008 10:13PM
Look, I know Facebreaker sounds like a bad name for an accessible boxing game, but keep in mind that they almost went with Fisting.
Markez (MKWii 4339-2878-5120) @ May 6th 2008 10:17PM
I think it's a fine enough name, I don't see the problem, it is a boxing game after all.
Good lawd I hope you're joking about the 'fisting' thing...
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 6th 2008 10:25PM
Markez:
It's supposed to be a family game.
Imagine your mom saying "I'd like to play some facebreaker". Not gonna happen.
Markez (MKWii 4339-2878-5120) @ May 6th 2008 10:38PM
Where is EA advertising this anywhere as a family friendly game? Sure, Joystiq, makes a joke about it in this write up, but can you actually point to me where EA advertises this anywhere as a family friendly game? I'm actually interested.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 6th 2008 9:59PM
And here comes the onslaught of people to tell us why this is a bad idea, just because they saw the word 'casual' in the sentence...
Sora267 @ May 6th 2008 10:19PM
This is a terrible idea! They should never ever make a game for casual gamers!
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 6th 2008 10:20PM
And it begins....haha.
Shmil @ May 6th 2008 10:12PM
In before Bleu's obligatory "fuck EA" statement
Matthew @ May 6th 2008 10:15PM
I thought they already did this and called it EA BIG.
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 6th 2008 10:26PM
Pretty much.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 6th 2008 10:30PM
Um, I don't think the SSX franchise is geared toward the 'casual' market...
J.Goodwin @ May 6th 2008 10:54PM
"freestyle"
Very Reebok, very Peter Moore. I like it.
"facebreaker"
Very shit, very EA. I hate it.
LAWL @ May 6th 2008 11:16PM
Alright, how long till these becomes the biggest generator of shovelsportware ever?
Since its EA were talking about, and the casual stuff, and it probably involves the wii too.Seems like a winning formula.
freecajunlove @ May 7th 2008 12:31AM
Just give me my new SSX... not a gimped port.
embassy @ May 7th 2008 12:44AM
yeh, whatever happened to EA BIG?
that was a pretty cool concept ( that EA ran into ground with sequel after sequel)
guess i just answered my own question...
Cuja @ May 7th 2008 1:11AM
Lets throw in a kickin' game and call it "nutcracker".
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 7th 2008 1:31AM
Does this mean that we're magically going to have even EASIER sport games?
PRESS A FOR EVERYTHING.
Curmeo 2.0 @ May 7th 2008 2:56AM
what did i tell you guys? Nintendonald's and their success with DS and Wii is slowly but surely ruining this great industry.
its simple as this: the more casual games that are made, the less hardcore games are made, which will lead to less quality hardcore games over time due to the law of averages.
Iwata has brainwashed you sheep with his clever keynotes and ad campaigns. fuck non-gamers/casual gamers if they dont see the beauty of hardcore games and proper controllers. we shouldnt need to cater to them when they dont even like the hardcore games we have been playing since the beginning of this industry.
WhatIsThatThing @ May 7th 2008 3:01PM
I'll be laughing when these games comes to PS3.
WhatIsThatThing @ May 7th 2008 3:02PM
come*
tmacairjordan87 @ May 7th 2008 9:29PM
What the hell is a nintendonald? I gotta know it's been bugging me for a while.
Consolcwby @ May 7th 2008 6:42AM
Wait! Does anyone else realize that this game will come under the title: EA Sports Freestyle Facebreaker O_O ... perhaps this is a joke, no?... Peter Moore's done it again!
h8rain @ May 7th 2008 9:17AM
Will it be FaceBreaker or FaceBreaker 08, so next year they can change like 5 things and call it FaceBreaker09?
Orangecoke @ May 7th 2008 9:46AM
I don't mind the name - it's very suitable to the look/feel/style of the game and gameplay. Wait till you try it (I had an opportunity to do so recently) - I was doubled over laughing it was so much fun.
noskillbassist @ May 7th 2008 10:22AM
Facebreaker for their first title.Next is Wrestling: Backbreaker
kbomb1upc @ May 7th 2008 10:40AM
EA doesn't really make bad games...they just ruin the good one's by using their cut, copy and paste method. Need For Speed, NBA Street and Def Jam all started out as good games but the luster dies down after you tricked out your Cobalt SS for 20th time.
