Joyswag: Win a DS with your songwriting skills!
Here's the skinny: You know the hit game You Have to Burn the Rope featuring the also hit song "Now You're a Hero," right? Well, we're giving you a chance to re-do the song with your own lyrics about a memorable gaming moment in excruciating detail. All you have to do is get the background music, make your own MP3 and go here to submit it to us. It's that simple. Don't feel shackled though, if you want to bust out some musicianship or editing skill on your submission, go crazy. Be creative.
The best entry will win a white DS Lite as well as Professor Layton and the Curious Village or The World Ends With You. Runner up will get the other game. But, more important than prizes, we'll be playing some of the best entries during the Joystiq Podcast this month, so you'll want to submit ASAP. If you're curious about this sort of thing, official rules are right here.

Does everyone have to check their email to confirm a comment? I'm pretty sick of it and I don't know how to change it. I've tried logging in and it doesn't allow me to. I get told my password is wrong but I'm still able to post with the same password.
Yourself @ May 6th 2008 4:03PM
If you get a confirmation email when you post, that means you entered an incorrect password. Your post still goes up if you click the link in the email, though. The password you should be entering is in every single one of those emails, though.
syrik zero @ May 7th 2008 10:05AM
Thanks man, I've got it all sorted out and I even got my own avatar =D
Haggard @ May 6th 2008 3:08PM
Methinks GTA IV will feature heavily ^^
Dick @ May 6th 2008 4:50PM
Yeah, well Me Knows Im sick of idiots using a style of english that should have died centuries ago...
Unless you got ahold of a time machine in the 1800's and decided to come to 2008 and stick around, please stop using methinks. Methinks you don't use it correctly anyways.
And this is not a message to this turd as much as it is a general turd broadcast, to all you turdlingers and turdtastics out there in turd land.
Haggard @ May 6th 2008 5:32PM
Well, I'm sorry you took offense to what at the time seemed to be a fairly valid point. In future I'll try and only use words that you approve of.
syrik zero @ May 7th 2008 10:20AM
Hey Dick, methinks you used "methinks" the same way that Haggard did. Smart move in making your point.
Haggard @ May 6th 2008 3:10PM
On the confirmation emails, there should be a password (garbled numbers and letters) and it will say use it in future to avoid the confirm emails - write it on a post-it note and stick it on your moniter.
That said, I have no idea how to get an avatar and such.
Shmil @ May 6th 2008 3:14PM
click your name, and it will show you your post history, at the top of the posts and to the right it will ask, are you Haggard? if so click here to login, you put in your precreated password, then you can edit your password, profile, and avatar

I was planning to mock the original Turok. The scene after you kill the two jeeps in the cave. Then all the sudden, from the fog, comes a T-Rew with gatling guns, rockets, and a laser eye....

YHTBTR = GOTY 2008
samfish @ May 6th 2008 3:33PM
Sorry, but Noitu Love 2 has already locked that award down.
Kristen @ May 6th 2008 3:19PM
Justin, we're hoping to chat with you about some upcoming stories. Can you email me at editor@pcgamer.com? (Your email addy is nigh impossible to find.)
Thanks,

Tim The Enchanter @ May 6th 2008 3:27PM
Hi I'm Justin's er, um, administrative assistant, or, "his people" if you will. Any moneys given in advance for the writting of storeys can be sent to me.
Thanks!
Tim
Roofie @ May 6th 2008 3:32PM
Wow! It looks like Justin is hitting the big time! You know, PCgamer. What? You've never heard of it? Oh, well that's fair.

GET HER NUMBER, MCELROY!
And then give it to me.
So I can take her out on a romantic date at an expensive, luxurious restaurant and then skip out on the check.

tarp. :|
Haggard @ May 6th 2008 4:09PM
@deaftly
Justin can't repel job offers of that magnitude!
Christopher Grant @ May 6th 2008 4:46PM
Kristen: you've got mail.
Neebs @ May 6th 2008 5:14PM
Big fan of yours Kristen.
Tim The Enchanter @ May 6th 2008 3:27PM
Well played deaftly, yours was way better.
deaftly @ May 6th 2008 4:01PM
No idea what I even did but I fully agree.
Tim The Enchanter @ May 6th 2008 4:08PM
"It's a trap"
I meant to put this in the reply to Kristen.
syrik zero @ May 6th 2008 3:29PM
Thanks! That worked =D
Covarr @ May 6th 2008 3:33PM
I can't write good lyrics. Now, if this were a composing competition, I'd win.
samfish @ May 6th 2008 3:36PM
I think I'll write a song about myself. At least that way there'll be one song about samfish and how great he is to combat against the 10 Fernando songs and how awful he is.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ May 6th 2008 4:13PM
Fernando trollers lack both talent and ambition. Nary a song would be made. That, or they'll change it to "You have to burn the Fernando."
TWD Industries @ May 6th 2008 3:52PM
Ok, I have my idea, but I guess two questions are in order:
1)Any language restrictions?
2)Are our choices restricted to either use the mix as given or cover the instrumentals ourselves? More to the point, is there anything against remixing the track? The Official Rules leave me hazy on that
Tim The Enchanter @ May 6th 2008 4:11PM
They say get creative, then to me that means get creative!
Martez @ May 6th 2008 4:33PM
The winner will be the person who writes and sings the song in Klingon.
AoE @ May 6th 2008 5:08PM
@Martez, um... if that's the case I hope they win a free sterilization.
Jfk Aok @ May 6th 2008 4:55PM
Jesus christ people...just go buy a ds if you want one bad enough to do all this crap. lol
AoE @ May 6th 2008 5:09PM
You say that like writing some lyrics and recording yourself singing them actually takes any real effort...
Kael @ May 6th 2008 5:11PM
Okay, I just made up new lyrics to the song and I'm calling it "Ode to Crocomire" of Super Metroid fame. I'm not singing it, though; I don't like to sing. Anyone want to sing it for me and keep the game if we win? In case we also win a DS, I'll take it and still let you have the game. Deal?
Here's the first few lines:
"Oh Crocomire,
I hammered him with charged-up shots, you see.
The eight-eyed reptile;
He wasn't defeated quite that eas-ily."
eugaet @ May 6th 2008 5:30PM
OK, I see that we should submit the entries ASAP, but is there an official deadline?
Jeremiah Moon @ May 6th 2008 9:39PM
says may 22 on the official rules.
eugaet @ May 7th 2008 11:47PM
Ah, I missed that official rules link the first time. Thanks.
mian @ May 9th 2008 4:56PM
The only thing lamer than reading the rules is asking for directions...
I kid. =) I was wondering the same thing. Thanks Jer
Chris @ May 6th 2008 6:52PM
The official rules say that you can't use any other third party music other than whats on the backing track. But if i wanted to put my own drumbeat or something on (that I recorded myself) I can right?
TWD Industries @ May 7th 2008 11:16AM
Right, if it's user created, it's all gravy.
wait in the car @ May 6th 2008 10:37PM
Is there an easy way to save the song onto my hard drive other than downloading a program to record the audio as it plays on my Windows Media Player?
Mike @ May 6th 2008 11:47PM
The lyrics in my entry are about this time a shitty cash-in song from a shitty "game" got way more press than it deserved by a silly blog. Give it a rest, Joystiq, please. I'm amazed that this incredibly transparent attempt at band-wagoning has somehow penetrated your normally stellar crap filters.
hoodwinkedfool @ May 8th 2008 11:12PM
Welp I submitted a song...
mian @ May 13th 2008 10:04AM
Entry submitted. Although that email address looked dodgy. Can you really put a plus sign in a gmail address, or is that a separator for the name?
Jody @ May 20th 2008 5:27PM
Well, I entered mine, here's to hoping for the best!
Jay Hester @ May 21st 2008 12:19AM
mine's in too.
Hopefully It'll get listened to.
It has been a bad week after all. It would be my luck if it gets lost.
