Killzone 2 dated February 2009

Live from Sony's PlayStation Day 2008 in London, David Reeves has just announced Killzone 2 for February 2009, ending speculation that the game would arrive this fall. (See, Guerrilla said so.) The apocalyptic shooter will be playable later today at the event, so head over to PS3 Fanboy for the hands-on impression and further details.

We're contacting Sony to confirm whether the Feb. '09 date is just for the European release or a worldwide launch. Update: A Sony spokesperson told us they "haven't made any announcements for Killzone 2's release date in North
America" but, perhaps sensing our disappointment, said they'll have "more news for [us] in the next couple of weeks." You'll know when we know, you know?

I agree with Foxhound, this is a good move, there will be some much holiday goodness coming out that this will be a great Q1 '09 title

I really don't understand the excitement surrounding this game and I own a PS3 and am desperate for some games.

Initially it was the E3 demo.. then we learned that wasn't running on a PS3 at all, so that equals 0 excitement.
Outside of that, what makes ppl excited about this? The first game? It was very very average. Especially when put up against the other shooters of that time, and NOW it has to compete against the likes of CoD4, GoW2 etc etc...

I just don't get... but then I didn't like Resistance either..

Smart move. Especially if Resistance 2 is coming out this year. Still, I'm finding trouble caring since the PS contollers are pretty effin lousy for FPSs.

personally i think this game is gonna rock. its showing to be the best looking game made to date, and as long as its not a 4 hour game a' la' GoW, im totally down.

and whats everyone worried about? go play some gta. or finish oblivion or something. (thats what i need to do...)

Makes sense - Haze in May, Resistance 2 in November, Socom a little before that, KZ2 in Feb.
And expect a cut to $299 before the end of this year, with MGS4, Haze, LBP, Motorstorm 2, SOCOM and resistance 2 just out, and bang in playable demos of FF13, KZ2, White knight, GT5 Final, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Project ico
And on the other corner you will have the pathetic colection of just Gears 2, Fable 2 and Splinter Cell 4, all of which would be available on PC as well. Slaughter.

The biggest game of the Holiday season will be Gears 2, hands down. Socom will have a limited audience due to the online only nature of the game (you knew that I'm sure), Resistance 2 will see solid sell thru but nothing spectacular, LBP (which I'm looking forward to) is a niche title, Haze will be a non-event but probably a solid game, and MGS4 will see similiar sales to MGS3 (about 3 mil worldwide) and isn't even a Holiday release. And if you think your going to see demos of FFXIII and GT5 (final) you're nuts, not to mention the other titles which are well off the radar for '09.

I own all 3 consoles, I'm in the specialty retail pipeline for videogames, and trust me - nothing is bigger this Holiday on the consoles than Gears 2. And for pretty damn good reason too, I might add. I'm actually playing through RFOM right now and if that game had come out on the 360 is would never have been noticed. It's ok but certainly not good enough to get me amped up for a sequel (big Insomniac fan, by the way). Does R&C PS3 have an online mode? I should check into that...

I know that, I never said that KZ2 was going to be an amazing game (altho I do think it will be good), I said that from a tech standpoint of view, it is the most advance console game...and people are claiming that even tho the game hasn't even been finished. Once the game comes out, we'll see wether or not that great technology was put to good use.

Ok. I'm optimistic. Killzone 2 might be good. It looks really fun to shoot people based on the physics alone. It's pretty. But if you want me to buy the game that I am optimistic about YOU NEED TO RELEASE IT. My opinion of KZ2 hasn't been shaken by the delay -- still pretty, still looks fun to shoot guys, still like the first person cover thing -- but the longer they delay it, the longer I'm not buying it.

And as someone said, even if Insomniac is bigger than Guerrilla Games they will have THREE games out before this one. Get your act together GG.

Sup buddy? Nah I doubt that. They've had a concrete November release date since they announced its existence. Its never been a vague Q1 or a fall release date like KZ2, MG or R2 have had. Just, November. It might be Nov 30th for all I care lol but I'm sure it will still ship in Nov. How can you not be pumped?

well Fenix, nowadays you shouldn't really trust the release dates, I think the only studio to trust when it comes to sticking to their original release date is Insomniac....

Yeah, it would help. Seeing all these PS3 releases being delayed is disheartening. Do they give reasons as to why? It looks as though the reason is development problems with the PS3?

My brother paid the majority for our PS3, I hope he likes it at least, I have little time to play it anyways. He'd better cream himself when he plays MGS4 as he's stoked for that game.

Wasnt this the first game ever "shown" for the ps3? I always figured this would be a launch game for the ps3, now its going to be more than 2 years after the ps3 launch before it comes out....Im crying laughing right here.
