A television advertisement created by UK retailer PC World promoting the PS3 has been yanked from the airwaves. GI.biz reports the Advertising Standards Authority found the ad "misleading" because it claimed the PS3 could play all PS2 games. PC World retorted that the system can play a significant amount of PS2 titles -- and lost.
Now, if only 26 complaints can get the ASA to ban a Kane & Lynch poster, we can only imagine how many rabid fanboys it took to ban this "misleading" ad. We've been unable to find a version of the commercial online, but if anybody finds it, we'll give thanks and place it after the break.

Wow, PC World touting something besides a Microsoft product? Lies! Lies I tell you!

If I ever buy a PS3, I'll have to search endlessly for the 60gb or 20gb.
The thought of not being able to play God Hand or Odin Sphere (which I am ever-so sloooowly making my way through) just doesn't sit well with me.

I'll sell you my out of warranty 60gb for $399. I could get by fine with a 40gb. They are a little quieter and use less power.

I hope Sony makes sure no such ads get out, it IS very misleading and just gives ammo to people to throw mud at the PS3

I am willing to trade my in-warranty 60GB for a new 80GB.

This is Sony's fault for touting full PS2 BC in the first place, then crippling it in every new SKU they've brung out. Microsoft never went the of making a fully featured SKU, then removing features then replacing the old SKU's etc.

This was not a Sony ad.
There were 360 ads run by advertisers claiming it had BC. Yet I still cannot run Rallisport Challenge 2 on mine.

I know this isn't a sony ad, but if Sony made PS2 software emulation instead of making it an afterthought to shift more systems then this article simply wouldn't be here now.

Only the voices in my head are asking for my opinion, but I am willing to throw in my 2 cents anyway.
I have a PC that I can view HD content on. I have a DVD player to watch movies on my TV. I have a PC rigged to my TV to watch HD content on a non HD screen (because I can). Why do I want to shell out a wad of cash for a system that, as of yet, has no games that I can't live without playing? I bought a Wii so that I may experience something new. I bought a 360 because I played my original Xbox to death (Halo2 and Burnout). I had bought the PS2 for Final Fantasy X. Unfotunately for Sony, they (or their publishing partners) have yet to release something that I HAVE to play that can only be gotten on a PS3. I work hard for my money. I refuse to spend it on something that is going to collect dust. If Sony wants my money, they need to work hard for it too. They didn't work hard enough for it with the PSP, (not enough games, too slow, sexy machine that was vapid inside (kinda like Jessica Simpson), etc.) so I sold it. If there are any older PS2 games I decide to revisit, I can always pick up a used PS2 for the price of a new 360 game (garages sales, look for the pissed off parents). You want me to drop money on it when it launches? Do me a solid then, make sure the bells and whistles work and that there is enough gaming bliss to keep me busy until the next AAA blockbuster title comes out. Yes I did buy a 360 and get frustrated by the RRoD, but I had a PS2 with a faulty DVDROM too. At least M$ fixed the RRoD for free. I had to buy another PS2.
This is beside the point but...
To the Corporations: Quit trying to assume what I want! Quit trying to find stupid little ways to spy on me so that you can guess what I need. You always screw it up because you have forgotten the first rule of getting what you want. Ask nicely. You want to know what is in the gaming system that I will trade you my hard earned dollars for? Ask me, I will be glad to tell you. Especially if it means that I will be happy and satisfied with my purchase.

As far as I know, my PS3 is fully backward compatible. I have the 60GB and a large PS2 collection and all the games I have played on my PS3 works fine. My PS1 games work too. idk...

UK ad, and even 60GB PS3s in UK are not 100% BC like yours (and mine) is.

Good show, jolly old England! Not all the PS3s play PS2 games so it was false advertising. When I bought my 40 GB PS3 I knew it wouldn't play PS2 titles but since I don't have any that was fine with me.
