Dr. Mario charges $10 fee to play on WiiWare
Dr. Mario has been priced for WiiWare and given a new name. Dr. Mario Online RX will cost 1000 Wii Points ($10), but there's still no word of an actual release date. Wii Fanboy noticed the price and name while meticulously scouring the video introducing the Nintendo Channel.
Now, would somebody please prescribe us a pill to get the "Fever" theme song to stop playing in our heads after someone so much as mentions Dr. Mario? Don't know what we're talking about? Feel our pain after the break.

$10 BUCKS?! :(
I could buy real pills at that price and make a puzzle game...
And when I clear enough in a row, I'll eat them... :d
...Videogames made me do it!

It's not as easy as it looks...
TheHuntIsOn @ May 7th 2008 2:36PM
1000 points? £7? Nawww. Don't be silly. I'd rather buy a bloody good N64 game.
Unless the online is as sorted as Mario Kart.
Fernando Rocker @ May 7th 2008 2:37PM
Yeah, 1000 Points is expensive... Gyrostarr is only 700 Points and Eternitys Child 500 Points.
Will World of Goo and the TellTale game be launch titles?
D_Average @ May 7th 2008 3:28PM
Too much for me...I'll wait for the Tetris WiiWare game...never really cared for Dr. Mario anyway.
Tim The Enchanter @ May 7th 2008 3:52PM
Haha "my pet monster"... I havent seen that in ages!
I think I'd rather get this on the DS. THAT I would play.
Fernando Rocker @ May 7th 2008 2:36PM
Nice theme!
I will wait for the reviews and see how the online mode works for this game...
I want Gyrostarr, LostWinds and Final Fantasy first.
D_Average @ May 7th 2008 4:50PM
Why is Animals de la Muerte not on your list??!! Have you gone MAD!?!?
PojoMofo @ May 7th 2008 2:39PM
Nintendonalds at it again, $10 is way overpriced for a poor mans Tetris clone
Fernando Rocker @ May 7th 2008 2:40PM
It's not a Tetris clone.
Phranctoast @ May 7th 2008 2:48PM
columns clone?
Go White Sox and Go other Team @ May 7th 2008 3:12PM
Columns clone is more accurate me thinks.
JS Beckerist @ May 7th 2008 3:28PM
http://nesarchives.com/drmario.html
Like heck it isn't. Nintendo knows how to milk cash cows, and Tetris was hotter than both gay New Kids on the Block back then.
PojoMofo @ May 7th 2008 3:45PM
LMAO, Columns is a Tetris clone as well,
+1 to JS for the linkage
Fatass of Haikuness @ May 7th 2008 5:37PM
Poor mans Tetris clone? Shit plays pretty differently from Tetris, dude. And it's FUN, which is what matters. Considering it's got online and a bunch of interesting new modes I wouldn't say it costs too much.
Zootittles @ May 7th 2008 2:40PM
Is this the one that will let you use your Miis as characters while you play?
Jhongerkong @ May 7th 2008 3:17PM
yep
Aly Hawana @ May 7th 2008 4:47PM
I love the Dr Mario Fever song in Melee and Brawl!
Korova @ May 7th 2008 2:44PM
so I can play doctor with Mario if I give him 10 bucks.
Can I get them back if I beat the crap out of him after we are done?
Korova @ May 8th 2008 7:59AM
I am taking this comment back and apologize for making it. It was stupid.
Mark @ May 7th 2008 2:50PM
I would rather pay 1000 points for Dr. Mario 64, which includes a 4-player version of Dr. Mario.
Fatass of Haikuness @ May 7th 2008 5:32PM
Doesn't this one, too?
And online multiplayer?
Fuck, you can even send free Vs. copies of the game to people who haven't bought it and play them.
Mark @ May 7th 2008 7:43PM
This version only has 2-player Dr. Mario (but 4-player Virus Buster).
Blazur @ May 7th 2008 2:52PM
This explains why that awesome game hasn't shown up on the VC yet. It's great that they're offering some sort of online play with Dr. Mario. Oh, and 'fever' is a favorite of mine for video game music. Love the remix in SSBB =]
Lonecow @ May 7th 2008 2:52PM
Will my medical insurance cover this game?
Carl Winslow @ May 7th 2008 2:55PM
Yeah, I'm gonna use my company's HSA card to get this.
PojoMofo @ May 7th 2008 3:46PM
Will they be selling this at Walgreens?
BlaqueBeird @ May 8th 2008 4:45AM
Only if you can get a prescription.
Blu-Sam @ May 7th 2008 3:00PM
Do you think it's expensive and rather to get N64 version?
But it allows you play against through online.
Eggman @ May 7th 2008 3:02PM
Do people just not remember that the last release of Dr. Mario was on GBA for $20 minimum?
People pay $30 for puzzle games all the time. Look at Lumines or Meteos or all sorts of games like that. Dr. Mario is just as good a game as either of them (which is really saying something for me since I LOVE Meteos) AND it has online, when neither of those others do.
Get off your high horses people. It's a fair price.
Maxwell Ash @ May 7th 2008 3:27PM
Well, I got it with More Brain Training on the DS for £15. Does that count as the most modern release of it?
Fernando Rocker @ May 7th 2008 3:04PM
mmm... of course.
WiiWare launch day is May 12
el serpiente @ May 7th 2008 4:26PM
WiiWare our diapers when we play with our kiddie games.
Superstar90 @ May 7th 2008 5:11PM
that wasn't funny, but nice try.
lukeR @ May 7th 2008 6:48PM
Yeah, you lost that spark you once had el serpiente. Try your luck somewhere else..
RagnarokSam @ May 7th 2008 3:12PM
This game is actualy not that bad, ive been playing it for a bit now. The classic dr mario mode is the same as always with better graphics and the virus blaster game is like the same thing, except you point and pull the pills with the wiremote (the pills and virus are bigger of course, and more than one pill can come down at a time). Unfortuneatly, i havent had an oppertunity to try out the online mode yet, so i cant say how well it works.
ScottG13 @ May 7th 2008 3:16PM
Nice. I had my fill of Dr. Mario roughly 15 years ago. No thanks.
vidGuy @ May 7th 2008 3:16PM
Considering all of the crappy games that sell for USD$10 on the XBLA, I think this is reasonable. I still won't be buying until Nintendo releases an update for USB media storage, though.
Jfk Aok @ May 7th 2008 4:08PM
Your logic is flawless.
Martez @ May 7th 2008 3:19PM
I'd rather play Tetrisphere.
StarFoxA @ May 7th 2008 3:30PM
I freaking love the Fever theme.
Nicholas Sulikowski @ May 7th 2008 3:43PM
Wait...wasn't this already known like a while ago? Cause I was certainly aware of the price. Wiki if I recall had it listed as 1000 for a while.
PojoMofo @ May 7th 2008 3:46PM
Will they be selling this at Walgreens?
baby sea tuna @ May 7th 2008 4:10PM
I love Dr. Mario and all but I'm gonna have to pass on this one.
TrojanGuy @ May 7th 2008 4:59PM
My wife and I LOVED playing Dr Mario together on the N64, so I'll definitely be one of the suckers that spends $10 on this.
Toasty Toaster Man @ May 7th 2008 5:12PM
You people must have forgotten that this shit is online!
Bakk @ May 7th 2008 5:33PM
As soon as I read online play I was sold..
GatorSax2010 @ May 7th 2008 5:57PM
Am I the only one that prefers the "Chill" theme?
BPM [SSBB: 5026 4120 1186] @ May 7th 2008 7:55PM
I like 'em both. :)
Jody Anthony (cookingrebels.com) @ May 7th 2008 6:32PM
at $10 I will buy day one.
