SCEE President: 'You will probably see' GTAIV DLC for PS3
SCEE President David Reeves has indicated that PlayStation 3 owners may be able to enjoy some Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content, after all. Speaking to VideoGamer at yesterday's PlayStation Day, Reeves said, "Well I think you probably will see it, it's just that a deal obviously was struck between Microsoft and Take-Two to do that, and if that's what they want to do, I think that's the last shot they have."
Of course, executives are known for their superhuman ability to talk a lot of hot air, and Reeves is no exception. The deal Reeves refers to is the $50 million Microsoft reportedly gave Take Two for exclusive GTAIV "episodes." It's unclear if Reeves is hinting at that DLC coming to Sony, entirely new DLC (also of questionable exclusivity) or absolutely nothing tangible at all.

Of course there will be DLC: new cars, weapons, clothes, etc...
But they will also be on the 360.

didn't know that you worked for Rockstar North.

Actually, Sox, he's right. The exclusive content Microsoft bought is going to be made solely for the 360 and can't legally be put on the PS3 unless the money Microsoft paid is to be returned... Then again, Sony could pay for their own exclusive content, but any general content put out that isn't said to be exclusive will no doubt be put on both systems. You don't have to work at Rockstar to have common sense.

Haze preview via Playstation 3 Fanboy itself...
"Overall, the demo was fairly fun, though it does seem like a genre generic title ... and by the merit of this demo alone, shooter fans probably may have felt the experience seemed a little too close to another shooter by a single name of four letters (well at least the very beginning). Can you guess which one?"
LOL, so they say its both a generic shooter AND a Halo ripoff. lulz.
MRBlue @ May 7th 2008 3:08PM
What I find more amazing is how MS paid all that cash for exclusive DLC and not properly promote it. Okay, so they flash some text at the end of the commercial but is that effective enough to really convince John Q. Public to get the 360 version of the game?
MS should have their own commercial showcasing exclusive DLC. As for Sony, well, if they never get it it may not matter since there's plenty of games coming out this year and next that will be enough to draw people's attention away from GTA for a while. Haze and Metal Gear Solid 4 come to mind.
And if the 360 DLC is coming in the fall so is LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm 2, Resistance 2 and more so PS3 owners should have enough to choose from with or without DLC content from GTA (maybe there's still hope that they'll have some content for Home when it finally launches).
FNG @ May 7th 2008 3:23PM
HAHAHA LittleBigPlanet. what are you 7? is this the new, "wait till Lair gets here"
FrankTheCrank @ May 7th 2008 3:24PM
So far, the exclusivity Microsoft clenched hasn't payed off according to the sales numbers. It's almost a 50/50 share.
Microsoft has got to charge big for that DLC to recoup and make a profit.
Has anybody even said what this DLC will be? A chapter? Some clothing? Cars? Machine guns? Dildo's to use on the hookers? What is this DLC?
ViagraFiend @ May 7th 2008 3:28PM
Why does looking forward to Little Big Planet make you 7?
Phranctoast @ May 7th 2008 3:32PM
@Frank
I heard it was two separate 10 hour long story addons (one in the fall. another following by March). So basically new missions. They were going to cost between $20-$30 each.
Paul (PSN: heypaul) @ May 7th 2008 3:46PM
Think about that for a second. You're paying an additional 40-60% for a game you already own, to buy more of doing the same driving to point A, shooting character B, getting away from the cops, calling Roman and making a smartass remark. Not saying that the game doesn't make its somewhat formulaic/repetitive missions fun, but honestly, you'd probably get a similar amount of enjoyment making up your own storyline about how Niko is actually a shipwrecked alien and must pile every Blista Compact he can find onto the Brooklyn Bridge in order to transmit an SOS signal to his homeland. Unless the expansion is GTA IV: Vice City, I don't see how it could possibly be worth $50 mill to Microsoft, or $20 to me.
Zeus.:God @ May 7th 2008 3:52PM
Phranc, isn't it also believed to include new islands, cities, etc?
Frank, the DLC is going to be very popular, no doubt. Since the chances of it not selling well aren't very high (almost non-existent), it will be sold for around 30 bucks just like Shivering Isles.
Paul, the DLC will include much more than that, otherwise it wouldn't be much of an exclusive.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 7th 2008 4:11PM
@ Paul
But I'm sure you wouldn't mind if it was on PSN. If it did end up being exactly as you described it I'll still take it, cause the story and later missions are fantastic. I'm hearing that the DLC will be that plus some little new things like weapons, cars, a new area and maybe even parachutes.
noskillbassist @ May 7th 2008 4:21PM
The 360 exclusive DLC is kind of a ripoff if you think about it. You're going to have to pay 15-20 bucks for 10 hours of extra game time each. Doesn't really seem worth it right now, but I guess we'll have to wait when the mystery is revealed.
Superstar90 @ May 7th 2008 5:05PM
LBP will be awesome, but expect a PS2 or PSP version soon. That game won't sell a lot on the PS3. I know it's appeal to everyone on websites like this, but the average PS3 owner will be like "GTA4! COD4!". It will end up being the next No More Heroes.
noskillbassist @ May 7th 2008 6:55PM
@Superstar90 - Wow, that has got to be one of the dumber comments I've read.
Superstar90 @ May 8th 2008 10:11PM
@noskillbassist
Why exactly is that one of the "dumber comments" that you have ever read? The comment above mine is definitely dumber, and incidentally it's also yours!
Huey2k2 @ May 7th 2008 3:09PM
I'm sure there will be DLC on both the 360 on the PS3. With that said though MS paid for exclusive DLC, so there may be DLC on both, but the 360 will most likely have more.
Cyro @ May 7th 2008 3:19PM
I think thats exactly whats going on.
Now what troubles me is, why hasn't MS promoted this more and given us more info on what it is. I mean damm, 50M is a lot of money and I am pretty sure it cant be crap. I mean, $50 Million dollars is half of what the whole game cost to do. So I am pretty sure is not only new weapons and cars.
jsn @ May 7th 2008 3:23PM
you know about it don't you? Most of their core audience knows about it too. Why spend money to advertise something that Joe public hardly knows is available to them anyway. They would effectively be trying to lure in that large portion of the public that doesn't know their console can even go online..
Roger @ May 7th 2008 3:10PM
see so shut your face ya bias morons!
xFenixKnightx @ May 7th 2008 3:13PM

:P
Just for the sake of flamewars, I honestly dont care,
BananaBoat @ May 7th 2008 3:10PM
He wasn't talking about that type of DLC.. He was talking about the new chapters that are coming to the Xbox 360, that won't be coming to the PS3 (for an amount of time that is currently undisclosed, if ever). This guy probably doesn't even know what DLC stands for, much less when or if it will come to the PS3. I wouldn't take anything he says without a massive grain of salt.
That said...screw the chapter DLC, give me a flamethrower!!
Phranctoast @ May 7th 2008 3:34PM
lol @ massive grain of salt.
PojoMofo @ May 7th 2008 3:11PM
We will have to wait and see what happens, i guess.
Eitehr way I am betting both systems will see a good amount of DLC going on because T2 is going to milk the shit out of this game to keep EA at bay, and more power to them!
pavs @ May 7th 2008 3:12PM
The DLC for 360 will be just as exclusive as GTA Vice city and San Andreas were to the PS2.
Take-Two couldn't give two sh*ts about loyalty and exclusives. They just want large amount of money being added into their bank accounts (and dont we all). And after seeing that the PS3 version sold extremely well, they would be stupid not to take advantage of such a large group of consumers.
I don't know what the terms exactly were between MS and Take-two, but I'm sure the Lawyers made sure that the company could milk money from both console.
MMM...Consoles
GRANTED @ May 7th 2008 3:22PM
if there's a contractual agreement between ms and t2, you can bet they give two sh*ts. then again, if there indeed is a contract it would specify exactly what the dlc consists of -- i'd like to get my hands on that...
JJ Rooster @ May 7th 2008 3:31PM
Man you are fucking idiot. Sure the PS3 will get something, but do you really think MS spent $50 for something insignificant? Nobody is saying PS3 gets nothing, but surely MS bought new episodes or an island ...At the very LEAST, whatever they bought will show up on PS3 a year too late.
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 7th 2008 7:02PM
From all accounts, the $50M is an advance, not payment. MS paid $50M to Rockstar to get the ball rolling, they will get the $50M back from sales of the DLC.
As such, the $50M is nothing but a guarantee of income, it doesn't change the business plan otherwise for Rockstar.
Martez @ May 7th 2008 3:17PM
Unless Microsoft's exclusive DLC is related to multiplayer, I don't really give a crap.
FrankTheCrank @ May 7th 2008 3:20PM
Fucking DUH!!! Rockstar isn't stupid.
Anybody who didn't see this coming is just flat out stupid.
Van Faulk @ May 7th 2008 3:20PM
Sigh. Why is this so hard to understand?
360 gets exclusive DLC. No one else gets it. That's what MS paid for.
The ps3 may also get soem kind of dlc but MS also gets that unless sony coughs up 50 mil. It's not rocket science people.
xFenixKnightx @ May 7th 2008 3:20PM
Remember in Ace Ventura PD when Jim Carrey bent over and talked out of his ass? Reeves is doing the same thing lol!

Scotto @ May 7th 2008 3:22PM
The lawyers at Microsoft aren't pants-on-head retarded - I'm sure whatever deal they struck with Rockstar North was for both a) substantial, and b) exclusive downloadable content. Possibly not forever, but for a substantial period of time, as $50mil is not a small sum of money for an exclusivity agreement.
In a recent EGM interview with Sam Houser, while he said they hadn't started to work on the DLC yet, or even decide what it would be - he said it would be an "experiment" for the company. That would seem to point to something far more substantial than new cars, weapons, etc. He seemed to be alluding to episodic content, specifically, as a new revenue stream for them.
And to be honest, I'm sure that wouldn't be difficult. Seeing as how 99% of loose ends are tied up at the end of the game, it wouldn't be difficult to introduce some "mini-stories", that take place after the conclusion of the main story arc.
For the record, I also recall him stating that the 360 DLC would start landing around August.
- Scott

I'd like them to concentrate some resources first to making the system and game work together on the PS3 (hopefully new patch is a start).
Then we can look forward to that new content and not be afraid of it crashing systems or freezing up....
Especially after you pay $3 for that "PIMP Pack" of bad ass Nico leisure suit and low rider Caddy:P
ViagraFiend @ May 7th 2008 3:30PM
I havent had it freeze on me...
Haon @ May 7th 2008 3:35PM
I have (360)
ViagraFiend @ May 7th 2008 5:55PM
Yeah, that makes sense. I got gta IV on ps3. The last game I got for 360 was mass effect and it froze up at least once every time I played it. Its kind of dissuading me from getting any multiplat games on it for that reason. I mean I love the console but jesus titty fucking christ I cant deal with the freezes.
helava @ May 7th 2008 3:24PM
Reeves is saying this to cast doubt on the 360's exclusivity. All he has to do is make people believe that it might not be exclusive. MS paid $50M for the DLC - if their contract isn't purely exclusive, it's a giant waste of 50 million. All Sony has is hot air at this point, but given how gullible some people have been, it's really all they need.
