Activision had itself a very good fiscal year '08 with record revenues and its 16th year of consecutive growth. GameDaily reports the publisher's revenues hit $2.9 billion, with net income growing from $85.8 million in FY07 to $344.9 million this past year. Amazingly, the fourth quarter of FY08, which was between January and March of this year, saw no new titles released according to the publisher and still raked in $602.5 million in sales and $44.2 million in profits.
Activision has many titles to thank for its banner year, including the billion dollar franchises, Guitar Hero and Call of Duty. The publisher grew its market share from 7.2% to 17.3% and says it expects new revenues this year of $2.75 billion; that figure does not include the merger with Vivendi Games, which will create the behemoth Activision Blizzard. Activision CEO, Bobby Kotick, says the merger is still on track and the company plans to make bagiggles of cash for its stockholders in the coming year.

The best thing is that they made tons of money from good games, not mediocre garbage (Slight generalisation); hopefully they'll put all their extra cash into some stellar sequels and new IPs in the coming year, instead of licensing Aerosmith...

"Kotick put life-to-date sales of the Guitar Hero franchise at 19 million - "versus only three million from our only competitor," he pointedly added, referencing Rock Band from Guitar Hero creator Harmonix."
Seriously?!! They have only made 1 installment of that franchise and they are trying to take ALL the credit when it was their "only" competitor that built it from the ground up into what it is. I can't stand how arrogant and obnoxious the Activision execs have become since buying the franchise. Not only do they owe Harmonix everything, but then they take jabs at them for advancing the genre, something THEY ARE GOING TO COPY NEXT (drums, full band, etc)! Not to mention that they kick their a$$es when it comes to DLC, and actual gameplay that makes sense.
OMFG fail!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But CoD4 was awesome, I'll give them that.

Totally agree... I think they could sell way more if they just combined their forces and made Rock Hero Star and released patches to make the fucking hardware all compatible... can you imagine a world where you could use your Singstar mics with GH guitars and Rock Band drums all together!!! OMG ECLIPSE!11!! END OF LIFE!!!

If you look at the head to head monthlies on the same platform, Rock Band does surprisingly well at nearly double the price point. Plus their DLC is off the chains at this point. Guitar Hero definitely does well, but he's not fooling anyone. Rock Band has a strangle hold on the hardcore music/rhythm game fans.
