Too ambitious is almost certainly right. Someone needed to step in there and stop the feature creep.

Put universal invites/messages/chat (aka in-game XMB) onto the PS3 first, for near-parity with Live, then put in trophies for true parity.... THEN work on this super awesome over the top social experience.

Will it be cool? Probably. Would in-game XMB 6 months ago have made a huge difference? Definitely.

couldnt have said it any better. they just need to get their priorities in check is all. In-Game XMB and Trophies should have been first on the check list since those are two of the biggest things the 360 has over the PS3 anyway. they're trying to beat the 360 in one fell swoop and thats not going to happen, the 360 is no push over. slow and steady wins the race.

Whats with the GDC 07 screenie Joystiq? I am glad that Sony is concentrating on the gaming aspect of Home more. Then once that is running smoothly, they can court EA and Gatorade with commercial Home Spaces. The Home integration with Warhawk and MS Pacific Rift among others, has huge potential to change how we play online.

Just get the damned thing out now.

That's what makes me laugh about this Home project. It's just a locked down Second Life with limited possibilities when there's an open alternative available that the majority of people would probably turn to if they wanted to play a sims style online game.

April 1st came and went.. everyone was still laughing about a Legend of Zelda movie trailer. Snake had found his way into Altair's robes. 'Super Pii Pii Brothers' made its debut.. And some poor poor SCEE employee walked slowly into work, their coffee shaking in their quivering hand.

"Fuck! We forgot about the fucking game launching and invites! FUCK!"

In game XMB? Would be nice, but it's more icing than cake.

el serpiente,
The really sad thing is that the PS3 is such a cluster fuck that people prefer sending their consoles back to Microsoft to buying a console from Sony.

el serpiente,

Don't you know that the WHOLE WORLD revolves around the United States? The funny thing is, the cluster-fruck PS3 is OUTSELLING the 360 in the United States so far in 2008. What do you think will happen when Sony gets thier shit together?

Wow, you guys just outdid yourselves. You managed to bitch about the Wii's lower price point, the 360s failure rate and an anti-American dig; all in a post about Sony's shitty online plan. You managed to hit the trifecta! Flame on you crazy diamonds! It's nice to know that you won't let a little thing like "sense" fuck up your arguments.

yea it would be much better to have people whining about not having it yet than whining about it being rushed and sucking. then they loose interest, updates or not. whether it will be good or not is yet to be seen but i would much rather them take their time with it regardless.

Because that's the reason why Blu-Ray drives can't vary read speed with disc speed, why 360s broke so much, why the Wii struggles to fully utilize motion controls, why the SIXAXIS even existed, why the Playstation Store needed a total overhaul and why the PS3 was off to such a slow start in it's first year. Sony needs to stop releasing things before they're finished. I guess it's a nice little PR boost when you release an update every month or two adding functionality that should've been there from the get go. Pause functionality was ADDED in an UPDATE!!! Everybody just shrugs and says how nice it is to have it now that it's here?!?! I'd rather send my console in for a fix once or twice (My friends haven't had to do it more than once but that's just my experience) than buy a half finished product and wait for whenever an update rolls my way and pretend I'm being done a favour. Using a passable store (Old one was terrible and miraculously swept under the rug until the current, amazing store came) and the DualShock 3 as milestones, the PS3 is now what it should have been at launch, although I don't know if the Blu-Ray drive read speed is fixable.

How the hell is the fixed read speed of a Blu-ray drive an issue? This is an advantage of Blu-ray if anything... the drive always reads at the same max speed compared to a DVD drive that is slower moving away from center. The store is a preference thing... to me, there is not much difference between the new and old but I have no idea what you are talking about with "Pause" functionality. If you would rather have hardware issues than software updates than you have definitely made the right choice.

The prospect of Home was one of the strings that pulled me to getting a PS3, I have since been really happy with purchasing it. However, all my excitement has worn off for Home. I mean, anticipation is a good marketing move, but its got to the point where it has to be a whole hell of a lot cooler for making me wait this long.

How is copying a very popular social "game" slapping a Home sign over it's old name, "ambitious"?

If I was such a loser, I'd rather play Second Life anyway. At least I can have some furry fun on their Mature Servers.

Still not bothed posting the better than 360 hardware sales increase that PS3 has seen in the UK?

Xbox gets a small sales boot headline news.
PS3 gets a better sales boost, not evena mention of it.

What gives Joystiq? Selective reporting to keep your advertisers happy? Looks like it to me,...

Actually in the UK the sales boost wasn't that different for the two consoles. 125% increase in sales for the 360 and 127% increase for the PS3; I don't remember if I saw these numbers on Joystiq proper, but it was on one of the sites in their network.

Not to mention that the PS3 has sold MORE consoles than the 360 in Europe, despite the FACT that it came out about 16 months AFTER.

The Clubbies will win a WS before Joystiq stops the PS3 hate. You know damn well that if the 360 came out 16 months later than the PS3 and surpassed it, Joystiq would be falling over themselves to post the story 24 times.

I will never understand the bias and hate towards Sony. We should be happy that the 360 and PS3 are doing well to conteract the Nintendo GameCube.

Why wait for in game xmb if you can just get an xbox 360 has already had it for 2+ years? I guess Xbox Live was waaaaay ahead of its time.

Xbox Live is the Citizen Kane of console online integration but Sony brand whores ignore it and want it on their console. Weird.
