LittleBigPlanet open beta officially dead

There's still a chance that a limited number of gamers will be invited into Sony's internal beta or that a demo will make its way to awaiting PS3s. But for now, we must wait and hope and design our platforming levels with the only materials we've ever needed: Notebook paper, a Sharpie and a boring lecture in algebra class.

A demo would be cool. Maybe they feel comfortable enough with the game that a beta is unnecessary. The game is said to be feature complete and they are now in the bug testing phase. I sure hope they have put aside enough servers (PS3's) so that when this game does come out in October, the online portion of this game runs smoothly.
I see a couple of posts down that this isn't the second coming of Mario. I agree, and I believe Sony agrees also. This game is just another game in the PS3's arsenal that will set it apart from the other HD machine. That's the thing with Sony, they do NOT rely on 1 or 2 key franchises, rather they rely on a vast pool of IP's ranging from all different genres. For me, I would much rather have it that way then to have a system for 2 or 3 big franchises. That is why I have had every Playstation, because of the huge and diverse library of games the Playstation brand is known for.

This is a PS3 thread about a PS3 game right? I am starting to be more annoyed by the trolling trollers such as yourself more than the trolls.
Its as if all you do is troll posts that appear to you as trolling completely disregarding the FACT that some of them (like mine) are not.

I would define key franchise as one that has sold over a million copies. All the 360 games that I mentioned that have came out so far have each sold over a million. Most of the Wii titles have, with the exception of Fire Emblem, which isn't really surprising. All the Sony titles I mentioned have sold a million each as well. I'm pretty sure if you asked any of these companies if these franchises were "key" they would say yes.

How are any of those AAA in every genra that people think about when they think of Sony? Most people used to think of GTA and Metal Gear when they think of Sony and those aren't even 1st party.
Call me a fanboy if you must. I don't have a PS3, but I plan to get one on my birthday (June 12th), but you can't honestly think the Sony name has the same pull it did last generation. It's first party games have always been "Well respected" but not overly popular.

When I think of Sony I only really think gran turismo and Ratchet & Clank.
...and then I think about ratchet & Clank some more and start to imagine cows hooked up to a milking machine that's gone on the fritz.
Sorry, but I don't associate any other franchise (except MGS and Final Fantasy) with Sony, really, despite the fact that they make them.
Maybe God of War, I guess.

I think you just proved White Sox's point. All he was saying is that Sony doesn't have a true mascot or series of games that people associate with their platforms the same way people associate Mario and Master Chief with their respective platforms. The PS platforms have previously been very popular, but that popularity wasn't based on any real mascot or series.

Now, I think that comment was meant to start a pissing match, which it obviously did.
Besides, How can you say that Sony does not rely on 1 or 2 key francises? FF, MG, GT are titles that they are heavily associated with and cause many people to buy a PS3. Hell, I got my PS3 because of enjoying the FF series and not being able to play it elsewhere.

As for the supposed level editing and gameplay shown thus far, even with the trial-and-error solving method of side scrolling & map editing; I can't justify paying the "now-usual-MSRP" of $50+ right now.

as a platformer, I don't really believe it will be the second coming of Mario. Being able to cooperate to create and solve levels is where this game will really shine.

This game is nothing like mario, its just a simple platformer/puzzle game, where u can create your own levels and objects by using simple shapes. It's a creative game that will thrive on community and co-op.

I think by second coming of Mario he meant the next big step for platformers. The problem with the game is that there doesn't appear to be much if any cooperative elements. The platforming hasn't really shown itself off either.
