My only real concern is that they're going to release a redesign right before I decide to buy a Lite.

*bought GBA a week before the SP was released and bought DS Phat about a month before the Lite was released*

Nintendo's good at doing that.

I had the same problem with the DS phat. I was a little pissed, to save the least.

I'm weak, so about a month ago I traded it in for a Lite :-)

Wow, after those iphone/lynx/gamegear/cheap-chinese-pocket-games/PDAs/gba-inspired "NDS2", things are getting ugly... canīt even imagine someone trying to play on this red and black batarang thing...

For serious! Why is it missing random pieces (especially the top left corner)? And the arrangement of the buttons on the right side totally screws over left-handed gamers. Let's be inclusive here, people!

You don't have to buy a new one, unless you compulsively buy everything Nintendo puts out. In that case, you have something bigger to deal with.

Anyway, I want a redesign.

I thought Nintendo's policy was not to comment on rumors and speculation. The fact that they denied it at all adds credence to the idea that they're lying.

... unless they are afraid that by letting this rumor run rampant, people will stop buying DS Lites and wait for a version that will never see the light of day?

What's this mockup designer have against the bottom left corner of the DS, anyway?

He just really hates that corner, I guess.

You can bet Nintendo has a DS redesign in the works. Nintendo likes to entice people to buy the same device at least 3 times.

Not sure what they could do to make any big improvements, other than making it thinner, and then I'd worry about the GBA slot not making the cut.

Their quote really only tells us that they don't plan to release a system to replace the DS. They're quite right that there's plenty of room for new ideas on the current hardware, so making a DS 2 or any other new system with no abilities is unnecessary at this stage. But they don't address the idea of a new form factor, which is quite reasonable. Drop the GBA slot and they can shave off plenty of extra space and make it even slicker than the Lite.

I am pretty sure the shape of the DS in this picture is related to many games using the "book style" to make it easier for hands to grip and hold.

Nintendo has no reason to release a new version of DS. No reason at all, the Lite constantly sells at least 500K every month.

I bet Nintendo is already in works with DS 2 however and will show next year and release next Christmas.

I know this sounds completely insane, but maybe they sincerely are not making another DS.

...But that's just crazy talk...

I'm pretty sure there's no redesign coming. The Lite is a great system, and anything smaller would be more difficult to hold. Plus, the GBA slot is a great feature - it's one reason why I bought the system. They might introduce some new colors though.

It's not like they can win, in this case. If they remain silent, people would still think they're making a DS redesign. If Nintendo denies it, as they have been, people still think they're going to release a DS redesign.

But one thing's for sure, those designs are...as a whole...fugily.

The only things that would entice me immediately to buy a new DS redesign are those that almost enticed me to buy a PSP - integrated web browsing and additional media (ie music) access.

If the screen got bigger or clearer or what-have-you it would be a "maybe in six months" purchase.

Oh man those are such garbage.
11/27....has this person ever played a ds?

The one at the top of the page...why the missing corners, maybe for the 5 book style games on the market...also the position of start and select (assuming thats what they are) you would be constantly hitting them.

6/27. Again, has this person played a ds before? I would love to see the condition of the top screen after having it constantly closed on the dpad and other buttons.
