First Gears of War 2 gameplay video on Xbox Live tonight

Man, running through a post-apocalyptic city and sticking a chainsaw into anything that moves is just the perfect thing for a Friday night. That being said, we've decided to stay in this evening and watch the first Gears of War 2 gameplay footage instead. If you want to catch a glimpse of all the testosterone-driven, monster-shooting madness promised in Epic Games' sequel, all you need is an Xbox 360 and enough dexterity to find the trailer on the Xbox Live Video Marketplace. Well, we suppose you'll need an internet connection too. Also, electricity.
Those of us lucky enough to possess computers (and internet and electricity) can also find the video on 1UP at 10:30PM PST -- that's a full 30 minutes before it gets to Xbox Live. When the embeddable Gamevideos clip becomes available at around the same time, we'll be sure to stick it up on Joystiq. We're staying in tonight, remember?

Can't wait to see how they've managed to up the graphics from the origional. Epic are probably the best 360 devs when it comes to graphics.
Tiptup300 @ May 9th 2008 9:48PM
Check out darkSector, It's very generic, but the graphics are insane.
Vegnagun bwf @ May 9th 2008 5:07PM
I'm expecting Epic to just loop a video of GoW and shoop a Chainsaw duel right in the middle of it.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 9th 2008 5:10PM
I just can't shake the feeling it will be almost exactly like the first one with very minor upgrades to the actual combat. I kinda hope I'm wrong since the first one was meh to me and I'd like to have a much stronger campaign.
jsn @ May 9th 2008 5:11PM
then it would be like nearly every other game sequel ever made... you shouldn't expect much more.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ May 9th 2008 5:37PM
ITT: tmac explains what a sequel is.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 9th 2008 5:37PM
This industry has and always will be about evolution, not revolution. The sequel will be like the first, just hopefully more fleshed out.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 9th 2008 5:43PM
There are sequels that do more than just add a couple new enemies, a new gun and a new campaign that's nothing special. It's FPS games that are one of the biggest culprits of rehashing nowadays.
CB @ May 9th 2008 5:56PM
Actually I feel the opposite. The first game, although pretty damn good imo, had a lot of room for improvement in every aspect. Story, gameplay, weapons, and multiplayer can become much better and I'm sure Epic can do it.
colin @ May 9th 2008 6:54PM
i just hope the bullets go at bullet speed. in gears it felt like i was shooting paintballs on a windy day.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ May 9th 2008 7:01PM
@Tmac
Sadly those are the exceptions not the rule. Most sequels seem based on, "let's not fix what isn't broken." Sure they have improvements here and there, but for the most part, most sequels are basically the same game as the first game.
Mr.ESC @ May 9th 2008 8:30PM
This is going to be more like an Expansion than a Sequel.
I just hope they fixed all the online issues of the first one and the onñine gameplay.Gears of war had an awesome co-op but the multuiplayer mode was dull.
ThePremierAssassin @ May 9th 2008 10:43PM
I hope that isn't the case.
I have a feeling it won't be.
hai2u @ May 9th 2008 10:59PM
I have a feeling this is going to be just like Vegas 2... which is a great thing. I'd rather them polish the original up and perfect it than go all crazy with it and ruin the basics.
OTAM @ May 10th 2008 3:09PM
If it's exactly like the first one with more gore, guns, and B-movie cheese,I will be a happy camper.
The people who don't like this game basically just don't get it. Go watch the movie Dead Alive and come back.
Ahmedz @ May 9th 2008 5:11PM
According to Gametrailers.com it should be there in an hour! :O
Matt @ May 9th 2008 5:13PM
What about eyes? Do I need eyes, because I have the red ring of sleep deprivation at the moment.
Cyro @ May 9th 2008 5:18PM
I hope is something worth waiting.
*Crosses Fingers*
343 Guilty Fart @ May 9th 2008 5:42PM
I hope is something too.
Hyams @ May 9th 2008 5:21PM
WTF? I'm a Sony fanboi, and yet I seem to be the most excited one here.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 9th 2008 5:36PM
I'm excited too. But that's mainly being a graphics whore AND a Kevin Lanning fan (was disappointed with the first Gears, but then again, I hated the first Unreal too).
I just wish it wouldn't be a Live exclusive.
LaughingTarget @ May 9th 2008 5:23PM
I'm half-expecting to be Rick Roll'd.
Mr.ESC @ May 9th 2008 8:34PM
Zomg the video was leaked already!
Is not Rick roll.

Lol.
Hyams @ May 9th 2008 8:37PM
It looks like you were half right. The gametrailer's link only takes me to an episode based around Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway.
All I can say is: WTF?
Chimaera @ May 9th 2008 5:30PM
Hopefully this isn't like the GoW2 "trailer"
Patience @ May 9th 2008 7:11PM
The first one was a teaser.. not a trailer
Brucie B @ May 9th 2008 5:33PM
Can't Wait!!!
Maverick Saturn @ May 9th 2008 5:34PM
I loved the first, but like tmacairjordan87, I'm skeptical.
What more could you possibly add to a game like Gears? The first pretty much had everything except a decent story and a long campaign.
I'm pretty sure this will be Gears part 2 rather then Gears 2.
Lets hope I'm prooved wrong, fingers crossed :) Excited ^^
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 9th 2008 5:34PM
Here's a brilliant plan.
1. Hype up a game they expect to sell consoles as a major franchise.
2. Make the debut video of gameplay available only to the consumers who already have the console.
3. Profit?!?
I want to see this video... so debuting it on Live instead of Gametrailers or other outlets makes no sense to me. Now releasing on both would be pure genuis....
Lamar Vannoy @ May 10th 2008 5:05PM
Um.. Did you read the article? It's going to be on 1UP a half hour before it's on Live..
tmacairjordan87 @ May 9th 2008 5:45PM
It's debuting tonight on gametrailers tv on spike so it's safe to assume it'll be on gametrailers tomorrow.
embassy @ May 9th 2008 5:47PM
if im not mistaken its also debuting on g4tv tonight..and will be up on gametrailers after that as well.
License to ill @ May 9th 2008 9:49PM
Fid do you even own a 360?
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 10th 2008 12:40AM
license to ill, no. I don't. Which was my point actually. I wanted to see this video. I still have all my 360 games, hard drive, and controllers, just waiting on the Jaspers to reinvest.
colinbell @ May 9th 2008 5:45PM
Things have got so complicated..a few years back you would release the bloody game, and people would simply buy it and play it. Now its an endless cycle of "exclusive" trailers, comparison videos, half-completed games or delays, etc etc.
embassy @ May 9th 2008 5:49PM
never saw the wizard im guessing?
MrXBob @ May 9th 2008 5:47PM
I'd just like to point out to everybody that Gametrailers is actually the one that has the exclusive, and it is going to be up in just under 3 hours right there on their site. The Xbox Live video will either be the same one or the (apparently) seperate clip that 1up/gamevideos are going to be showing at 10:30pst
Marty @ May 9th 2008 6:01PM
I really liked the first game, but I wish they had had the time to get the extra missions from the PC version into the 360 game. The extra hours of play really brought the story around better, and made the game seem a lot longer, even on casual.

I still play the first one ~15 hrs week to this very day, so I'll pay $60 for whatever they want to give me no questions asked.
That said, anyone expecting a sequel to completely revolutionize things is a crazy fool. Sequels are meant to sell mainly to the people that enjoyed the original (especially with games that sold as well as Gears did), so it wouldn't make any sense at all to alienate those same people by changing the core gameplay from what they originally liked.
Yes, it will have a better story. Yes, it will have new levels, characters, and weapons. Yes, it will have some new gameplay mechanics (like destructible cover).
No, it will not remove the entire cover system and change the game into the first person view that you play with a motion sensing controller.
xFenixKnightx @ May 9th 2008 6:47PM
Dude
Most of these guys up in here havent even really played Gears enough to apreciate it. Dont waste your time trying to convince them otherwise, they are just complaining for no real reason.
For a good 4 to 5 months there was no other disc in my 360 than Gears and those were some of the best times in gaming for me. My Seriously achievement is proof, I was owning people left and right averaging anywhere from 150 to 200 kills a night in Ranked. Online is a great experience REGARDLESS of glitchers and host advantage and blah blah blah. Thats why its still one of the top games on Live to this day.
I'm tired of these idiots trying to crap on it for whatever bullshit reason. It's a mans action game with a gritty style. You want color then go play the Viva Pinata/Ratchet and Clank, you want a longer story go play an RPG. I cant wait for 2night to see GTTV on Spike and then Ima dl it on Live too. The first one sold bout 5mill, this ones selling even more than that.
Nuff said!
Benny @ May 9th 2008 6:56PM
I still play a hell of a lot of Gears too. It's the best multiplayer experience I've ever had, and I've got way more than my £35 worth of value from the game.
Epic already has their first sale in me. (Of course, not literally INSIDE me.)
mundox @ May 9th 2008 6:52PM
"It's a mans action game..."
That was one funny line right there XD
I just hope the game lasts more than a couple of hours this time around.
Knight Marquise @ May 9th 2008 7:39PM
Try playing it on any setting other then "Casual", and you'll get more then 2 hours out of the campaign, dumbass.
el serpiente @ May 9th 2008 9:36PM
Testy, testy. You have a poopy diaper?
pickassoreborn @ May 9th 2008 7:03PM
Should be an interesting leap as there's been some improvements to the Unreal engine - although I wouldn't be surprised if it's more of the same. I don't think Epic want to alienate the fanbase with something completely different.
My only wish is that they sort out the squad AI so it's more intelligent - too many times did Dom get in the way of me shooting stuff. Not many games (if any) get squad AI right so fingers crossed!
Jake11 @ May 9th 2008 7:21PM
i loved Gears 1, therefore i will love gears 2. Such great multiplayer, you barely even need a single player campaign.
Cash @ May 9th 2008 7:28PM
And if my system weren't sitting in a UPS box on its way to Texas right now, this might mean something to me. Damn dirty red rings grumble grumble.

Could you please tell me how you managed to play your 360 without a visual output(TV/amazing computer monitor/etc) of some sort?
