I am really glad they are doing this, because there are a lot of things that I dont remember from various MGS games. I have played them all, but usually its a blow through it quick and move on experience for me, but I am hoping for more with MGS4 and MGO.

Lots of good memories in that. I actually picked up the MGS collection for ps2 to re-learn everything so I'll be set for 4 next month.

That music gets me too. I started to play Twin Snakes the other day but I honestly didn't remember any controls and there was no training included with that game. I sorta lost interest after that. I felt so sad and think about the game all the time. Maybe I'll force my way through or search all the control online... What a good idea, I'll do that tonight!

The controls are better with the PS1 version.
With twin Snakes they took the controls from Metal Gear Solid 2 and forced it onto the Gamecube controller which doesn't work so well.

I tend to avoid web video, so can somebody tell me if the retrospective covers the MSX Metal Gear titles, or do they jump right in as though the NES game was the first in the series?

Thank you Gametrailers for all of your wonderful retrospectives.
In a semi-unrelated matter, did Snake find an egg?!

I love, love, LOVE GT's retrospectives. They're always so professional and enjoyable!
Yep, that song at the end gets me everytime, too. It's actually in Irish (a language I'm fluent in) but I didn't notice at first because it seems to be 'sean gaeilge' (old Irish). I actually spoke with the singer, Aoife NĂ Fhearraigh ,once! :D The song is called The Best Is Yet To Come, btw!

Excellent video. Have been playing through all the games in chronological order in preparation for MGS4. Just finished Portable Ops, so Metal Gear is next for me. I'm glad Subsistence had professionally translated console version of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 on it because it was lame many years ago getting a stupid MSX emulator to work right. I eventually did, and was able to experience MG1 & 2 in all their fan-translated MSX glory, but I love the new PS2 versions.
Of course, having been introduced to the series by MGS, it was awesome to finally play the fistfight between Snake and Gray Fox in the minefield that played such a big role in MGS.

I hope they include plot summaries. I played Twin Snakes and the plot seemed interesting, but the gameplay was dull enough to make me want to skip the games and just watch a compilation of the cutscenes..

Seeing those bits of Metal Gear Solid reminded me how much PS1 version has that "something" that was missing form Twin Snakes.
It wasn't the cutscenes fault, it was something else, I don't know.
For example, the lightning in the original made Metal Gear Rex much scarier.
I didn't feel that "wow" effect when I saw Rex in TTS

I remember reading that when I was a little little kid playing this game. I knew it was wrong then. I was born in '85. But lots of ports did that. Most famous being "All your base are belong to us"
