Ninja Gaiden II to get three costume packs in July
Ninja Gaiden II hasn't even been released yet and we're already bored of Ryu Hayabusa's costumes. Why? Our attention spans are just that sho-- oh crap, look, it's a ladybug! ... What were we saying? Oh, right, ninjas. As we're already deep in the clutches of boredom you can imagine our relief to hear that three new costume packs for the game would be released this July for 200 points (that's $2.50) a piece. You can see a full-sized version one of the offerings right here.
The strangest part? You actually have to jump through some hoops to be able to buy the first one, seen above. According to the Gamerscore Blog, the armor "will be exclusively available in selected countries to 39,000 gamers on launch day as part of pre-sale or launch promotions," whatever that means. We'd love to sit here and be incensed about the whole thing, but we've got a ladybug to track down. Seriously, it was right here.

FABULOUS!
xFenixKnightx @ May 9th 2008 9:35AM
No, not fabulous! They should be free and unlocked when you beat the game on super duper ultra fricken hard mode. Love the avatar btw.
BananaBoat @ May 9th 2008 4:51PM
Yeah, I'll admit, that's a nice shoop. If you made the cheerleader outfit have a giant Nintendo logo on it, or a picture of Miyamoto, it would be an awesome troll on a certainnnnn someoneeeeeeee.
Anywho, I surely won't pay money to play dress-up with Ryu. Maybe if you give me a costume for a hot female character that is also playable, and you make it...I don't know...a buck....I'd buy it. Although...that is a pretty sweet Karas-esque outfit in that picture there.
SirWalksAlot @ May 9th 2008 9:37AM
I don't think I could stand wearing a mask that has a bar right across the middle of the eye-holes.
baby sea tuna @ May 9th 2008 10:52AM
Eh, it's worked okay so far for Snake Eyes...and Geordi LaForge, for that matter.
Veko @ May 9th 2008 9:41AM
Thank you, Microsoft, for offering me so many ways to give you money for things that should be free.
You're going to sell millions of NG2. You shouldn't charge extra for shit like this. Damn leeches.
Tim The Enchanter @ May 9th 2008 10:19AM
And thank you, Veko, for that avatar. That's some funny sh*t.
Nigeria @ May 9th 2008 9:42AM
I'm not gonna buy it and I'll and this paying for a costume idea is causing me to froth with generic outrage, but the concept art does look hot.
Can't wait till this comes out.
Obie @ May 9th 2008 9:42AM
$2.50 for a costume pack? Its fuckin' horse armor all over again! Screw you M$!
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 9th 2008 9:54AM
Please direct all future nerd-rage in this regard to Tecmo.
PojoMofo @ May 9th 2008 10:20AM
Yes but MS does have a history of making things cost money when they come out as DLC on XBLA, even if the dev wants it to be free. So its tough to say if this is MS or Tecmo calling this shot.
Tim The Enchanter @ May 9th 2008 10:20AM
Exactly. They could have simply included it in the game, as it's not even released yet.
Tim The Enchanter @ May 9th 2008 10:21AM
Uh, sorry, that was meant as an agreement with Sir..
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 9th 2008 10:54AM
No, PojoMojo, it's not hard to see who's calling the shot on this. Why?
Because if it was MS essentially forcing them to charge for it, you would see them bundling all three outfits together for a flat rate. Instead you see the NamcoBandai approach to IdolMaster and Ace Combat 6 DLC where it's sold on an individual basis rather than a bundled basis like COD4 or Crackdown.
Jfk Aok @ May 9th 2008 12:46PM
Sir is not in the industry...obviously, because he has no clue what he's talking about. Zilch. MS tells you to make some crap downloadable and then the developer has to decide how to bundle it. The developer and microsoft come to some agreement and then 95% of the time the developer makes jack squat from selling this stuff...about 25 - 75 cents per sale depending on your relationship with Microsoft and the developer's leverage and managerial talent/stubbornness. Also, if you decided to do this crap for microsoft, it's usually because microsoft did something for you...ala marketing.
Sir, if you do not know then do not state that you do.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 9th 2008 2:14PM
Sir Fidlious Wong IS in the industry, ya fool.
zuburi @ May 9th 2008 5:10PM
So am I, isn't it sad?
Daniel @ May 9th 2008 9:43AM
How bad does Tecmo want this guy to be Raziel? I mean seriously, that skin plus the banner ad on IGN makes me think they'll subtitle the next sequel - Ninja Gaiden: Soul Reaver
PojoMofo @ May 9th 2008 10:21AM
Kain owns Raziel and Ryu.
Raziel is much cooler looking though
Daniel @ May 9th 2008 11:26AM
Well said, PojoMojo
Count Noobula @ May 9th 2008 1:29PM
Damn you. Now I want the next Legacy of Kain game. Defiance could not have been the last one. There has to be more..... Wait, this is a NG2 thread.
Kevin @ May 9th 2008 9:47AM
What's so special about getting fancy armor on launch day for a SINGLE PLAYER GAME?
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 9th 2008 9:59AM
Just proving once again that Japanese Developers have no clue about DLC. They are trying to apply the F2P MMO system to their 360 and PS3 games but here is the problem, F2P games are free. The extra outfits, weapons, accessories, visual shite, are ways for players to throw support behind a game they like that they play for free. Not for a game they paid $60 for.
Now if Tecmo would release special missions like what's on NGS, then it could be worth it for DLC. But outfit packs? Make the game free before you take ideas from Maple Story....
NATO_Duke @ May 9th 2008 10:01AM
So we have evolved from horse armor to ninja armor? This is some nickle and dime bs.
Lucky for me that I dont really care about playing dress-up with my games. (Barbie Horse Adventures FTW!)
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 9th 2008 10:20AM
I love dress-up. Seriously, I wish a new RPG would take the system from Evergrace. Where else would you up your attack stats by wearing a Pumpkin for a head and a red scarf?
baby sea tuna @ May 9th 2008 10:54AM
World of Warcraft?
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 9th 2008 11:26AM
I had a lot of fun in WoW for a while. But I found the most fun comes from level 1-30, after that the grinding and need to turn it into a job drove me away.
NATO_Duke @ May 9th 2008 11:29AM
I am proud to say I have never touched World of Warcraft!
tmacairjordan87 @ May 9th 2008 10:01AM
Reminds me of oblivion's horse armor....which I bought /cry.
DemonGSides @ May 9th 2008 10:03AM
I bought the horse armor too...
But god dammit, my Elven Armored Horse looks pimp!
baby sea tuna @ May 9th 2008 10:55AM
YOU TWO ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!
For shame.
iFester @ May 9th 2008 10:33AM
That skin looks like an amalgam of The Darkness and Shadowhawk from Image Comics.
HayabusaByakuya @ May 9th 2008 10:38AM
thats cool... but it shoud come with the game not something to pay for and download, hope to see DoA costume in there =´P cant wait for this game x´D
Misfit Toy @ May 9th 2008 11:18AM
$2.50 for all three outfits...maybe. But $2.50 per outfit?! Come on. Get serious.
Senator Dracula @ May 9th 2008 12:26PM
The great thing about this, as with all things for sale, is that you do not have to buy it.
Although I did hear that Tomonobu Itagaki said that anyone who doesn't buy all three is a huge dork. So I guess that's just the risk you run.
Batzarro(A.K.A Rap-Rock Cameo) @ May 9th 2008 12:44PM
And who wants to be big dork? Nobody, that's who.
Seriously though, I wouldn't buy it. But I still haven't bought "Bringing down the sky", so maybe I'm a cheapskate?
Rob Accomando @ May 9th 2008 1:09PM
WTF. Dead Rising had lots of free customs. Anyone with any sense won't buy these. Of course that won't happen and Tecmo/MS laugh all the way to the bank.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 9th 2008 2:15PM
WTF? Halo Elites in MY game?!
TrojanGuy @ May 9th 2008 2:33PM
Paying real money for a costume for your in-game character. Ugh. Count me out.
Mike @ May 9th 2008 2:47PM
I didn't know that ninjas wore horse armor
umm....hello??? @ May 9th 2008 3:40PM
I can has Recon Armor outfit????!
SharpBlade @ May 9th 2008 3:41PM
LOL! F U Tecmo and MS. MS are the nickel and dime kings this gen. $2.50 for a freakin change of cloths? And you know these things are already made and are being left out for the sole purpose of charging people money for them beyond buying the game.
What happened to showing appreciation to your fans that supported Ninja Gaiden since it launched? Fan service at a charge, what a losing proposition to gamers.
And let me guess if my console dies I won't even be able to see these outfits if I'm not connected to Live.
No sale!
LAWL @ May 9th 2008 6:32PM
Wait, you release a game and later one, release more content for it and its cool bonus to keep it fresh, release new content and its like an xpac, but hte game isnt even out and there already "cool stuff to download" there? damn thats wrong.
People im happy that when i bought my console it included cables and a control,we dont know when those will be "sold separetly".
DP @ May 9th 2008 11:30PM
Justin, that's 200 Microsoft points for 5 different costumes. The original post from the read link was updated.
