For the launch of Guitar Hero: On Tour, Nintendo and Activision are planning to sell bundles of the handheld system and game. Said Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith in a conference call (34:50 mark), "Nintendo has been impressed with this innovation and part of our launch will include selling the game bundled with Nintendo DS hardware." On Tour has 15 confirmed songs so far and is due out this June.

I'm just not sure Activision is whoring out GH enough.

Well it's been out on the PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, PC, Mobile, and now the DS.
All that's left is the PSP.
...and (of course) the Jaguar.

While I will not be partaking in the DS iteration, some people only have the handheld. I, for one, will probably buy this for my little brother as he doesn't have a Wii, let alone a 360 or PS3.

...actually I seriously doubt it. It doesn't make much sense and there's not much to improve on. The DS Lite is pretty damned sexy.

The DS doesn't need a redesign right now... is currently the best selling system every month.
It doesn't make sense.
And no, just because the PSP is outselling the DS in Japan it means that the DS is stop selling. The DS sold near 700,000 every month, compared to 300,000 PSP every month worlwide.
50,000 of difference in Japan between the DS and PSP is not a big deal.

The DS redesign I read about (no link, sorry) got rid of the GBA port, which is what the buttons slot into. I doubt Nintendo would be dumb enough to hobble a successful franchise like GH with new hardware.

Out of curiousity, isn't this the same Nintendo that denied a new DS a day before the Lite was announced, announced the GBA SP on January 12th, and upgraded the GB to GBC a month after Beatmania got that custom strap-on in Japan?
Here's the thing with riding Nintendo's coattails to success. You're cruising quite fast, but you're still behind em. So as Nintendo sees DS Lite sales slowing down (which is happening, Fernando), they would release a new system just to boost their profits and get another console sale out of it. Who cares if it breaks GH on DS? Nintendo certainly wouldn't.

Guitar Hero III for Wii is selling extremely well (on par with the 360 version)... this DS version will sell even better.
But I would prefer Rock Band. Double stylus as drum sticks would be nice.
=p

You need to follow the import scene more. You COULD be drumming along with the theme to Katamari Damacy right now.

only four buttons and one of the lamest track list yet. Just buy jam sessions.

The reason they only have four of the five buttons is so that you don't drop your DS when trying to manipulate your hand to get to the 5th fret and back. There would be a lot of broken DSes out there if they'd decided to add a 5th button

Here is one issue I have not seen addressed yet, is this game compatible with the first gen DS? The GBA slot on the first gen DS was deeper than the DS Lite GBA slot, will the fret button controller be able to reach the contacts in the GBA slot on the first gen models.

I'm almost positive that they said it would work with the phat. But don't kill me if I'm wrong.

Not buying this. Considering I'm a left-handed stylus user, yet I don't play Rock Band with the lefty flip. So unless they want me to hit the notes and strum with the same hand, I'll pass....

I, for one, am looking forward to this iteration.

Will this be compatible with the original DS design? I wouldn't want to have to buy a new console just to play this Grr...
