EA wants you to "Skate It" on Wii and DS
Much to the disappointment of many a Stephen King fan, the "It" meant to be skated is not, in fact, the psychotic clown that gobbles up kids and makes your tea turn into blood. Skate It's executive producer, Scott Blackwood, tells IGN (you know, those guys who unofficially revealed Skate's Wii and DS incarnations last month) that the "It" is largely up to you. "Rails, pools, ledges, banks, mega-ramps, gnarly downhill streets ... you make the call."
Blackwood explains that the team behind the well-received original game "are working co-operatively with partner studios to make Skate It," with DS development duties handled by UK developer Exient. Why bother bringing Skate to the Wii? Blackwood is glad you asked: "It's all about bringing that authentic Skate feeling to the Wii remote and stylus, or and for the full on immersive types, the Wii Balance Board." And here we thought a port of Sega's Top Skater would be the first one to let us do an alley-oop in the living room.

Sadly, John Ritter will be the first to bail. Or maybe the Night Court guy.
Tim Curry will never bail.
Ghen @ May 11th 2008 8:42AM
BEEP BEEP comtar! They ALL float down here.
Mikey @ May 10th 2008 2:18PM
gnarly downhill streets!!!
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 10th 2008 2:45PM
Thank god there will be gnarly downhill streets! I always felt the Tony Hawk franchise lacked some serious downhill streets that are tubular, rad, and boss.
rv @ May 11th 2008 1:34PM
But no bro-tastic ramps and totally sweet halfpipes, dude? wtf
Blue_Falcon @ May 10th 2008 2:18PM
I'm interested in using the balance board for the Wii version.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 10th 2008 4:14PM
Be careful of those urges to pull an ollie.
Metayoshi @ May 10th 2008 2:43PM
Oh, It... Such unpleasant childhood memories. Five-year olds shouldn't be allowed to watch that movie. Somehow, my cousins and I happened to watch that movie at such a young age. I hate clowns...
Mr.Iwantfreestuff @ May 10th 2008 3:27PM
Wow, exact same story here. Older cousins popped it in, and before I knew it I was hiding behind the couch.
My mild fear of clowns isn't going to stop me from watching The Dark Knight though :D
Arturo @ May 10th 2008 3:55PM
We all float down here! lol i watched that movie when i was 5 too but i got over the fear of clowns after a few years haha
Lars @ May 12th 2008 4:06PM
I watched IT when I was pretty young too... That clown was just plain disturbing. It was hard to be afraid of such a terrible movie though. Stephen King's books just don't translate into movies very well.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 10th 2008 2:43PM
I really hope this is good so that it can be rubbed in the face of every troll who said the balance board is an 'over priced scale.'
tmacairjordan87 @ May 10th 2008 2:46PM
Well it is. I don't need to play a slightly toned down version of skate just to stand on a plastic board. It's perfectly fine with a regular controller
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 10th 2008 2:54PM
I should have known you'd show up. I think it would be a fun, immersive experience. Just like how the wiimote is much better with FPSs. I'd rather use it than play with toned down controls.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 10th 2008 2:57PM
That's fine, all I'm saying is I'll take "toned down controls" over a toned down game. That's much more important to me.
Mr Khan @ May 10th 2008 3:00PM
In some cases, the controls make the game, more so than any other part of it
Skateboarding games would fall into this category, i think. So would Jedi games
License to ill @ May 10th 2008 4:06PM
"I really hope this is good".
Ha yeah right...
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 10th 2008 8:57PM
Reserve judgement until you try it yourself. You're just like every cynical bastard online, you form your opinion before without reason and will more than likely keep it no matter what.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 10th 2008 9:10PM
Well when you look at it, it's really no different than you liking everything nintendo puts out, just the opposite.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 10th 2008 10:15PM
Proof? Yeah I didn't think so. I like a great deal of genres and franchises outside of Nintendo, and even dislike some Ninty franchises.
Sora267 @ May 10th 2008 2:47PM
That clown looks like Ronald McDonald in the mornings.
Mr Khan @ May 10th 2008 3:02PM
Hopefully developers adapt more quickly to the Balance Board than to the Wii-remote, otherwise it won't be until Christmas that we see a Balance Board game that actually works, if the old standard is any indication
Tiptup300 @ May 10th 2008 11:41PM
I still haven't found a place where Waggle technology helps the game? All the best games for the wii allow for the gamecube controller to be used.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 11th 2008 11:42AM
Metroid Prime 3, homie. The pointer controls, weapon selection, and removing armor were all way better than using a gamecube pad.
Abscissa @ May 10th 2008 3:30PM
I really want to know if they're throwing away the dual-analog controls in this version. You would think a developer would have the sense to leave it in as an option, but then this *is* EA.
BPM [SSBB: 5026 4120 1186] @ May 10th 2008 3:40PM
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! CLOWN!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!
[runs around screaming]
Oh, and not interested in the EA game mentioned.
[keeps running around screaming]
Travis @ May 10th 2008 3:44PM
balance board skate game would be an epic fail...
the board doesn't move...can't do tricks...
surfing would be decent...or Kirby's one button ride a cereal marshmallow racer.....
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 10th 2008 4:16PM
Yeah, Guitar Hero was epic fail: you can't strum real notes.
Seriously though, it isn't going to stop a game from being fun.
Martez @ May 10th 2008 3:58PM
Brilliant image. Just brilliant.
Dio @ May 10th 2008 4:15PM
That shit is now adblocked.
Lijik @ May 10th 2008 4:36PM
The last line of this post has gotten me excited over the possibility of a Wii version of Sega's Ollie King.
Probably going to never happen, but it would completely awesome if it did.
Foetoid @ May 10th 2008 6:19PM
I still honestly believe that Tony Hawk Downhill Jam on the Wii is the most underrated Wii game there is. I've sunk more hours into that game than any of my other A+ titles simply because it is so much fun to play. It did take a good few hours to get used to the controls, but once you have, it's the best TH game i've ever played, and i've finished every single one except Downhill Jam on the DS.
Bucket @ May 10th 2008 8:08PM
"Do they varial?"
"Oh yes, Georgie! They varial. And when you're down here, YOU'LL VARIAL TOO!"
Nope, doesn't do it for me.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 11th 2008 11:39AM
That's why they're in quotations. It's a critique of the jackasses who use those phrases.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 10th 2008 10:30PM
Need a list? I've owned and loved every sytem besides PS2 (borrowed one for awhile), PS3 (getting one for MGS4, FF, ICO), and 360 (saving for one currently :D!) I love Nintendo, but also desire other consoles/experiences. I play 'casual' and 'hardcore' games and respect each for the differing experience I get, which any 'true' gamer understands. I'm not as close minded as you. I love GAMING.

Lord Bowser @ May 11th 2008 5:59AM
The words "casual" and "hardcore" mean very, very little. And the phrase "true gamer" means absolutely nothing. They're cliched, easy words.

I wonder why they didn't include the gangbang from the book in the made for TV movie.
Torley @ May 11th 2008 1:50PM
Haha, the parody image caught my eye — who made that? It's a work of art.
Dylan @ May 11th 2008 11:05PM
Totally irrelevant, but anyone who's read the book knows he didn't turn the tea into blood. It's actually much, much worse.
