Vidikron, I think it depends on what one's purpose is in playing the game. In my opinion--and I don't think I'm alone on this--I didn't play Gears for the story. So I think something that expands on the story of Gears of War but doesn't add a whole lot of new gameplay elements isn't something for me. Sure, one Final Fantasy game may play very similarly to a previous one, but I mainly play Final Fantasy games for their story-telling. Know what I mean? It just depends on how one looks at it, and with the majority of today's games having online playability, popularity is another factor to consider. I might think X is much better than Y, which is itself not a bad game. However, because Y is so much more popular and more people own it, I might be compelled to choose that over X simply because of the greater opportunities to play online. Somehow I got away from sequels and over to games in general, but I think it still applies.

Vegeta, you've been using that same damn If It Ain't Broke don't Fix it statement for the past 3 pages.

Shut up already.

Just because something works doesn't mean that it doesn't have to be improved. If it doesn't get improved, UNLESS there is a massive amount of new levels and a much longer games, it's an expansion pack or an episodic game.

So either GEoW2 needs to have gameplay changes and the number of new weapons being in the 10-20 range, or it's just gonna be an overpriced booster pack.

They may only be videos from one section but if Epic and Cliffy B. wants to star gloating about how badass the game is, they need to try a little harder selling why the sequel is better and why it merits the full 60 dollar price tag.

I agree with you here, tmac. It looks like more of the same old, but that'll do just fine for me. I really couldn't get into the single player at all. Actually, never played more than an hour of single player, played the whole way through with my cousin in co-op when he still lived with me. He's moved to TX since and I can't wait for it to come out for us to blow through it over live.

If you're doing single player and never bothered with live, then by all means rent it, because the 1st one was short, and I'm guessing the 2nd will only be slightly longer if anything.

"Just because something works doesn't mean that it doesn't have to be improved."

If you even read my posts you'd know i comment on this. Most sequels provide improvements to the game, but don't really change the core gameplay. And we've already seen a couple improvements and small additions in the gameplay vid. But it's necessarily the same game. That's how sequels work.

And for god's sakes people. It's a fucking trilogy. Of course the gameplay is going to remain somewhat the same.

It's funny how everyone is all goo goo over the trailer now. But my real concern are the following :

Is it it going to be the same as the original Gears? As in your pretty much invincible during th chainsaw animation? Will it still have the broken active reload. in which you blow something up into smitherings with the shot gun randomly? Will it have those random headshots in which someone aims at my stomach and my head blows up? Will it have a PARTY system like halo? (A party system is a must in Gears for ranked games) And most importantly, (and this is what's going to decide whether I buy the game or rent it) is it going to have host advantage. Because if it does, i will be renting it.

The only reason i didn't go through getting Seriously is because one day I was just going to throw my controller at the floor at at the amount of bullshit that was a happening. I played the crap out of the online mode in gears my gamertag is ElToRo15 if you want to check

I can't say for sure, but they made it known that multiplayer was a last minute addition last time around, so hopefully now knowing how big it's become and going into development from the beginning knowing that multiplayer is the biggest part of the game they will get some of the kinks worked out.

Perhaps I'm 'overanalyzing' but why are the Locust considered evil considering the fact that it's their planet we've taken over?

I think the humans didn't realise that when they first settled there. The locust just kinda popped up and started killing chumps - a bit like Aliens. So the natural response would be to try and defend yourself - although if the locust can grunt at you in english, surely you can enter reasoned debate with them.

BTW. don't want to be a dick, but please dont refer to Gears as GOW (thats god of war, since that came out first) GeOW2 or Ge2 are some good alternatives.
Anyway, great time to be a gamer, last couple of years have been amazing.

No no, recent videos I've seen far surpass any ounce of 'good' I saw in the KZ1 previews.

I don't, nor will I probably ever, own a PS3 but I can still see that a lot of effort is going into making Killzone. The pre-judging and fanboyism is pretty lame.

I think gears 2 looks good as well as Killzone II ... Just because the guy has a different opinion does mean its not valid ... It seems Gears 2 still looks monochromatic and washed out ... Its hard to go down after the first Gears campaign ... Nowhere to go but up as far as I see

Killzone 2 might have stood the test if it had been released at least this year. It's one thing to show off trailers and footage that look cool but if you don't bother releasing the damn thing then it's going to just look dated when it does come up. I don't care how a good a game trailer looks. I only care if it has a realistic delivery date. Are you listening Alan Wake and The Getaway 3?

Gears 2 looks good, Gears 2 is actually going to come out pretty soon. Gears 2 takes the win.

Killzone 2 is entering the realm of vaporware. Gears 3 might actually be unveiled when Guerrilla actually finish.

I'm psyched for this game--to see how the story unfolds, but I will say this: I hope that Epic gets to spend more time with the net code to make this title a little less lagadelic...I would love for there to be dedicated servers for this game, but I suppose that's asking a bit much. :-\

And before anyone jumps in with "Dude, get off the dial-up"...I have cable broadband service at roughly 8mbps downstream and approx. 2 mbps upstream. NAT settings are wide open, and no one else uses my [secure] network except me.

I'm just saying that due to the P2P nature of Xbox Live, it made the multiplayer for Gears just a little less enjoyable.

People who call for bans should be counter-banned. It's a low blow from someone who wants a uniformity of thought. This is the internet: people may have thoughts divergent from the herd.

And for the record, there was no trolling. I stated my opinion, some people disagreed, we exchanged ideas. No trolling, just genuine discussion.

Hey Bowser, I've been checking out this thread for a day or two now and you really are a schmuck. Apparently you don't realize that when people carry themselves like they are so much more sophisticated and intellectual than the people around them they are generally disliked. People who do that are most likely doing it for attention and to compensate for feelings of insecurity.

Your comments on how 'base' a game like GOW is, and how people should rise above liking that kind of game are ludicrous as well. Do you like sex? Ever masturbate? How 'base' is that? But you do it (probably the latter) often. I suppose as Americans people who enjoy football should rise above that kind of entertainment as well.

I consider myself a well rounded and educated person. I own a business, I read, I'm writing a novel, and am a good athlete. I play ice hockey, lift weights and have been studying a martial art and its' corresponding philosophies for about 25 years now. And you know what? When I have an hour or two to play a game solo or online I like a kick ass action game, and Gears is one of the best I've ever played solo or online.

If games like Gears aren't your cup of tea, fine. Don't go around like an elitist ass telling people what the 'right' things are for them to enjoy. If you must sit around smelling your own flatulence please do it in private and spare the rest of us.

Gears of War 2 looks really good. Who cares if it's GoW 1.5? What sequel nowadays isn't? Even though saying it looks 1.5 from a 2 minute video is retarded. It looked like the Killzone 2 trailers they've been showing, a little too much like them actually.

@people that think Gears 2 looks like Gears 1

No shit, Sherlock

The two games have the same team working on them using the same game engine. Since the game is a sequel, they also have to use the same art direction and same characters. So all thats left for them to change is the game play and the story.
As far as I know, the story is different, and the game play has been tweaked with new weapons and abilities. So whats the problem? Epic said that Gears2 would be like Gears 1 only bigger and badder, and it looks like they are set to deliver. I can't wait.

Well....to throw into the discussion....It does look like a continuation of the series.....and thats what we expect. We will have to wait to see what enhancements/tweaks to Multiplayer they have. I do hope for more than 2 co-op.

The 1st GoW Storywise we all knew was a setup for a sequel....so lets hope they elaborate on the storyline and wrap up some of the loose ends from the 1st one. :)

I'm excited personally....competition breeds quality...should be good for XMAS :)
