Picking up Yellow and Crystal versions was a great deal; those two had a lot of new stuff compared to the first two in their generation. I didn't pick up Emerald because at that time, I really didn't want to go through the adventure again. But I may pick up this new one, once again, depending on how much actual new stuff is in there that will make it worth my time.

I MUST get Platinum. :)

I have Diamond, Pearl, Emerald, Sapphire, & FireRed.

I didn't get Ruby, because they don't sell it anymore, and I couldn't find LeafGreen, so I got FireRed. I'll get LeafGreen eventually.

Ironically, I have bought all the Pokemon games. I have given Diamond, Pearl, LeafGreen, Firered, Ruby, & Sapphire as gifts.

I regret not getting Ruby, since they don't sell it anymore. :(

Peace.

Get a VisualBoy emulator and get the rom... or try a new and used games shop, (Gamestation's an example if you have it where you live (oh, wait... you don't if you're American...) look at the website anyway, you'll get the picture) like my brother did for Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.

I have Pearl, and want to play it again to try to beat the final four bosses. But now that I see that Platinum is coming I will get that one to at least have a bit of a different experience. Pearl was really my first pokemon game, afterwards I got Emerald and Leafgreen to play too.

I would NEVER buy another version of the Diamond/Pearl pokemon games. Diamond SUCKED. Still haven't bothered to beat the elite 4. WAY too short of a storyline, and very unoriginal. Where is my Silver/Gold remake w/nice graphics plz??!

Diamond is the only "standard" Poke-game in which I completed the story.

I put "standard" in quotes because just this past weekend I completed the pre-credits story in Explorers of Darkness.

Anyway, I bought Yellow and Crystal and played them and I think I even got further in them than I had their predecessors but I really don't recall - it's been a while!

But I'll probably get it.

I bought Yellow and got Crystal... somehow... (it was totally legal but didn't cost me anything, I know that much). I actually only have Emerald and don't have Ruby or Sapphire. I might pick up Platinum because I have a lot of stuff I want to keep but I want to restart the game.

Also, do you think this is why Pokemon Farm doesn't let you transfer Pokemon from one save file to another? Because they want people who want to start over to buy a new game for it? :P

I feel bad for the non-gamer parent who will unknowingly buy 3 versions of the same game. Nintendo seems to be guilty of this out side of the pokemon franchise also, the parent of one of my daughter's cousins bought their child three Nintendogs games, not understanding that you can get all of the dogs in one game. Even as an avid gamer, I've had trouble figuring out the whole pokemon repeated games for my child. If I've got it right, they've releases five versions of the orignal pokemon gameboy title(s)!

It's not Nintendo's job to make sure parents don't make stupid purchases. Anyone who doesn't know that Pokemon comes in multiple versions after ten years (especially since it was bigger than Jesus for the first few years) should let their kids tell them what to buy.

I owe my years-long Pokemon fanaticism (now cooled for the most part) to a third variation, that being Pokemon Yellow. I was in to the television show before I was ever in to the games, and I picked Yellow up as a young child because of the draw of having a Pikachu tag along with you, the availability of all three starters, et cetera. It turned out to be a fun game independent of its similarities to the anime, so I branched out to other games from there. The third game in each series has a legitimate place, but only so long as it's different enough from the other two to warrant purchase.

I probably won't be getting Platinum, though. I barely beat the Elite Four on Pearl before getting bored, and the draw of a marginally-more interesting legendary is not nearly enough to get me playing again. This isn't to say that I wish any ill will toward the Pokemon franchise, though--I hope it lasts for all eternity both for the benefit of the fans who are resistant to fatigue and, in all honesty, to spite those who, year in and year out, feel so compelled for whatever infantile reason to take a piss on Pokemon and those who enjoy it.

I don't think I'm into it enough to pick up Platinum, but if I hadn't picked up Pearl at launch and were wanting to get into Pokemon 'later', then I probably would consider Platinum instead of Diamond or Pearl.

I bought Yellow, Crystal (best game in the series, IMO), and Emerald (in addition to the standard games each generation), but after Diamond I may be done with the series as a whole until it gets a major overhaul. Diamond was more of the same, and more of what I hated about Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Too much extra crap that takes focus off the core game and forces you to spend WAY too much time on the game on a daily basis in order to avoid losing your progress, and not enough concentration on improving the core mechanics. The base level is outdated and boring now. And even that I'd be willing to accept if it received a glossy coat of paint, but it's still as bland as ever. I will NOT be buying Platinum unless these issues are somehow resolved (which they can't be in a .5 release).

I suffer from the compulsion to actually 'catch 'em all'. For that reason I bought both Diamond and Pearl, Firered and Leafgreen, and most recently Emerald (Ruby and Sapphire no longer being available). I do this as I don't know other people playing with which to trade wirelessly, and the trades on GTS is ridiculous with people wanting some lvl 100 legendary in exchange for lvl 1 starting pokemon from ruby. That and the fact you don't really know if what you are trading for is legitimate or created from Action Replay.

I'll wait and see with this Platinum edition. Chances are I'll buy it eventually, but if it has any new pokemon that are unavailable in every other edition or that up until now you could only get through a Nintendo Event, then I'll buy it as soon as it comes out.

I need help.

I was a bit disappointed with the DP versions, because the game never went out of the box and just stuck with the old formula, and even the graphics received little improvement. My friend and I said how the Pokemon games would be more engaging now if they made it into a Brawl-type gameplay when entering battle. I think older fans of the series are tiring of the old gameplay, and would certainly take on a more action-packed game if offered.

I agree. I've played it since Yellow and it's gotten to be a more boring fighting style. They could have at least done custom sprites for certain Pokémon and attacks, like in the 3D games.

I'll get it. I always get one of the first two then the third. the Extra content and enhancements are generally worth it. At some level its more of the same, but in all honestsy there arent many ground breaking game formulas nowadays anyway, plus keeping certain things the same at the core is what keeps most coming back.

Heck, I haven't been keeping track of my pokeymans lately, but I'm pretty sure I have a valid reason to play through D/P again and that I waited to hear for the third game's release to see what perks are in it. Even those small differences are worth it sometimes.

Not to mention I still have two more games of Leaf Green to play.

My friend and I have this agreement which basically sums up to...if there's a Pokemon game and we're both interested with extra income at the time, he gets one version and I get the other. He bought Pearl and I got Diamond, he picked up Sapphire while I bought Ruby, we both laughed at getting FireRed and LeafGreen, and so on and so forth.

Given that I sold Ruby a long while back, I might pick up Emerald someday, but that would be the extent of my third game interest. I'll be giving Platinum a pass.

More online integration would really be a clincher for me, in this case. I would just trade Pokemon from my beaten Pearl file to quickly jump tear through the game, though

If it's true that Underground will be WiFi enabled, then I might consider getting it. I generally buy one colour of the first two in a series (eg. I bought Silver out of G/S, and Sapphire out of R/S, and Diamond out of D/P) and I always tend to buy the newer released version because it tends to have something a little different from the original of the series.

You know, before Diamond and Pearl (and Ruby and Sapphire, no doubt) there was a lot of speculation of a new game. Just because some gaming magazine in Japan might have heard about a new game doesn't mean there's going to be one anytime soon.

(Remember Pokemon Green?)

Up till Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, my brother and I had all of the versions when we pooled our carts together. I remember when I got my Game Boy Color was when I got Crystal, since it was packaged with it. This is ridiculous though, I have a ton of hours on Diamond, and I'll just have to throw them away for a new version, UNLESS! Nintendo decides to somehow have a downloadable update for Diamond and Pearl. That would be nice.

As it happens, I've misplaced my copy of Diamond and was wondering if/when they would make a third. I've been playing since RBY, and if I buy Platinum it'll be my first 'third' since Yellow.

Funnily enough I'm one of the few people who really loved Ruby/Sapphire. It just had so much lasting value for me. Diamond... not quite so much (hence having misplaced it; when you don't care about where something is for a good half year it has a tendency to vanish.)

Well, I have had Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green, and Diamond. I'll probably get Pearl sometime in the future, and I'm definitely getting Platinum. I don't regret getting multiple games, however, I am upset that I transferred my Manaphy from Ranger to my copy of Diamond. I don't feel like trading it to Platinum.

Yes, I have problems.

Pokemon Green does exist in Japanese. Instead of the English Red and Blue, it was Green and Red/Blue (can't remember which). The difference (besides the color) was that the Japanese version had harder dungeons.
