WiiWare's up and running now in North America and not a single one of those games comes from the big N itself. Speaking to Wired, Shigeru Miyamoto, head of Nintendo's game development division, says the company wanted to foster indie games, which are more prolific in the US than Japan, with Wiiware. In fact, Miyamoto says, "I think America has always been better at creating unique products."
Excuse us one moment while we crack open a Bud and beat our chests ... OK, back. Miyamoto explains that US indie developers have managed to acquire the skills and hardware needed to "let their own personality and their own kind of unique interests really flourish." Asked if he would ever consider getting involved in making a small-scale game again, the Nintendo guru responded that it might be "fun" to do.

Whoa! You took like 5 examples and made a generalization about all American and Japanese developed games! You rock!
Is that why in the top 50 meta-ranked PS3 titles so far there's only 6 or 8 developed in Japan, and every one is a sequel or rehash? See, I can make generalizations too!
Sorry, I'm just being an ass. I actually love franchises and sequels, but I don't like this X is more creative than Y crud that pops up here a lot.

I like both Kombat and Fighter, both. BUT...
"Super hyper mega ultra edition +" every year is no better than "New color palette on the same dork dressed as a ninja. Mortal Kombat DID try to reinvent itself. Street FIghter, up until now, has simply been rehashed, reused and recycled. Mortal Kombat may not be the best fighting game series, but I reckon they deserve credit for consistent trying. Street Fighter had a craze and exploited it shamelessly.

uh...the most anticipated games for the PS3 are japanese....did you realize that?
and rehashes also happen to american developers, does Epic ring a bell?

Im sorry Im being an ass by stating some counterpoints, but Japanese developers in general tend to think more outside the box...
Just look at the most known franchises, most of them are either Japanese or Asian
"because when you said "Street fighter keeps on changing and reinventing itself" I knew you were just being sarcastic."
well, if he was talking about the main installments, then yes, I agree.

I regret not using a /sarcasm tag. Yes, a few of the most anticipated games on the PS3 are Japanese. But are they completely unique? Not a chance. That sure as hell isn't going to stop me from buying them! The only super unique game I see coming is LittleBigPlanet out of the UK, and I'm not completely sold on that yet. I just don't see why it's such a pissing contest to see who's "more unique."

Let's see... doing a brief run-through of my (frequently played) PS2, GCN, Wii, and PC games that are staring at me here on my desk, we have these titles that I would consider creative:
Legacy of Kain
Odin Sphere
Shadow of the Colossus
Beyond Good and Evil
Eternal Darkness
Wind Waker
Mario Party 7
Mega Man X
Metal Arms
Metroid Prime
Prince of Persia
RE4
Metal Slug
Galaxy
Half-Life 2
BioShock
Diablo II
Starcraft
7 Jap developed, 10 US. My collection says they are close enough to equal for me not to care.

Regardless of how incapable you are of using the reply system, I think I'll get out of this argument as quickly as possible, as you are coming on pretty strong as the worst of all types of fanboys (the fighting-gamer).
None of those things you listed come even close to being qualifiable as "reinventing" the series. They're for the most part minor additional feature to what is one of the most static genres in gaming. I mean, super meters and air combos? That's what you call innovation?
I wasn't necessarily making the argument that MK reinvented the genre, simply that it is by and large intended as a game with a solid fighting engine that uses story, characters, and comedy to parody other fighting games, video games, and violence in general. Your using it in an argument about uniqueness is ignoring the fundamental intention of the game.

2. MK has a story ? more then SF series ? Right.. that's why there's Shoryuken.com, and... whatever.com for MK, and that's why there is udon comics for SF, and other comics for KOF, cuz ..they don't have a story... riiighhht.. WRONG .. FAIL
3. You want to talk about reinventing series.. On your list of top 10, you don't even have the original Zelda or SMB. How old are you troll ? You do know SMB was one of the original platformers and TONS of games have tried to mimic it but couldn't. (tiny toons, etc.). YOUR LIST FAILS
I'm a fanboy of what ? of Japanese games ? give credit where its' due, I didn't like Halo, but it's creative in telling a story, and I understood that. Maybe you should understand the other side of my story, no ?

This will be my last reply to you, as your inability not only to use the reply button, but also to read what I post, is so comical that it in and of itself almost invalidates your point.
Reasons why you don't know how to read:
1.) I already said what kind of fanboy you were, it was the next goddamn clause.
2.) Top 10 list? That was 17 games. It wasn't a top ten list, it wasn't a top anything list. It was, of the games I'm looking at on my desk (sorry, I don't keep my NES, SNES, N64 collection in view), the games I deem as unique. It was a casual post using a casual example without digging around through all of history for that a single game that is supposed to win an argument about two cultures.
3.) I never said MK has more story that Street Fighter, or a better story that SF. I said it uses story to create satire. But that's unrelated, and we'll get back to it in a moment anyway.
Let's do this slowly, though.
Firstly: You brought up Mortal Kombat. You said "HEY LOOK Japan is more capable than US at making original games because SF is more original than MK." My response to this is that your point was completely invalid, because MK at no point even tries to be unique. It PURPOSELY copies and exaggerates elements of other games to create comedy. I at no point contradicted myself, because I at no point claimed it was unique. I said it wasn't trying to be, and using it in an argument about uniqueness means you don't understand what you're trying to say.
Furthermore, I suggest that you make sure to take your blood pressure medication. When posting on internet forums it is important to remember: everyone has their own opinion. No one likes AIM-slang like "urself." No one likes all caps. I've only given you the satisfaction of a response because it seems you've taken a personal affront, and this will not do. (for the record, I'm 19, I own everything from NES through Wii and most of the classics, so don't try to condescend to me about experience).

On ur list:
How does starcraft reinvent from warcraft 2 ? Online ??
Diablo 2 from diablo 1 ? Online ?
Your list makes no sense, and neither do you.
How does Megaman X reinvent from Megaman classic? upgrade armor and a 16-BIT chip ??
these seem pretty small changes, and similar to my statement on 'parry system, tag system, etc'. Again you're counter yourself.

Now, I think this is being WAY outta context. While there are multiple ways to measure uniqueness. Baring some anime freaks, you'd have to admit some of the american games are pretty unique. Especially indies, since the rest of the industry already discovered how to make money.

And see, that's where the problem lies. Most of these people are looking at Console titles. In Japan, there IS no PC industry, so we see console games. And most of the time, We're so fascinated by the games that are different from our own culture, that we don't see the rehashes. Personally, I've been around the game industry long enough to see that Once you learn the staples of the Japanese games, most of them loose their originality. Even something as "unique" as The World Ends With You. Or Okami. They don't feel origonal to me. It's the same old Japanese thing.
Now for us, to compare our Console buiesness, to Japan's isn't fair. Compare it to PC.
Portal, Team Fortress, Counter-Strike.. Games with User Create-able Content. Sim/Sim city, Online Gameing, Spore, Bioshock, Darwinia, Uplink, Gary's Mod, monkey island, bejeweled, 5 minutes to kill yourslelf.... Boom Blox..... You Don't Know Jack.
Just because they don't have Big eyed, big breasted Anime girls running around being "wacky" doesn't make them not unique. Don't forget, We even created Console gaming. There are alot of things ingrained in our culture. You may look at TF or CS, and think they aren't creative. But when they came out, the re-invented the industry. Hence why everything has copied them since. Hell Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest were influenced off of Ultima. And Tetris wasn't Japanese, and it's one of the most addictive games of all time.
