Pitfall Wii-vived for 'The Big Adventure'
Activision asks: "What could be more fun than using the Wii Remote to swing on a vine over blood thirsty crocodiles as retro-cool Pitfall Harry?!" We wonder: Uh, and how does one swing from a Wiimote exactly? Ready or not, a "new generation of gamers" will plummet to certain doom this fall, when Activision releases Pitfall ... The Big Adventure (oh, well, now you've sold us!).
Developed by Edge of Reality, The Big Adventure features "innovative, accessible game mechanics developed specifically to take advantage of the Wii motion sensing controls," as players waggle over pits, shake up evil "shamen" (shamans?), and twist through puzzles. "It's a completely new experience for the gamer," says Binu Philip. Who? (Edge of Reality's president. Duh.)

Good god. This is not necessary.
Danjer @ May 12th 2008 2:10PM
I agree!!! What is wrong with Activision? Are they trying to ruin every franchise or license that they get a hold of (like COD5 with Treyarch).
BIGGEN @ May 12th 2008 4:16PM
activision has had this since atari dude, they ruined it waaaay before now. but yeah, if this is the new one, looks dumb as hell.
xFenixKnightx @ May 12th 2008 2:04PM
Bummer dude I know what you mean. This is what I hate about the Wii, seriously.
xFenixKnightx @ May 12th 2008 2:28PM
I couldve sworn this was a reply to Fernandos comment. Wierd...hey...wheres Fernandos comment?

lol
FOXHOUND @ May 12th 2008 2:11PM
Sadly, the rate of HDTV related "wii'ner dangle" damage claims will be boosted if this truly takes on the Wii Remote+Nunchuck control scheme it's implying...
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ May 12th 2008 2:11PM
Will you please let this franchise die already?
FOXHOUND @ May 12th 2008 2:21PM
Considering that TOMB RAIDER and UNCHARTED pretty much left PITFALL in the dust(Save for Bruce Campbell, there's no reason to even look in its direction; MAYAN ADVENTURES included)... they're just tarnishing a classic game's legacy by doing this.
Genoma @ May 12th 2008 2:15PM
Pitfail.

Shitfall?

This is like piling shit on top of shit.
Esat Dedezade @ May 12th 2008 2:27PM
Then you get manure, which is used to fertilise crops and crops are good.
This is just like.. well, fish shit, cos thats usless. Its dissolved in the ocean and you can't grow anything with it.
elvio @ May 12th 2008 2:33PM
like everyone else, i'm skeptical about this waggle-ware, but having played the GC version i'm curious, too. i actually thought that was a _lot_ of fun.
Mischa @ May 12th 2008 2:34PM
I'm extremely disappointed that we won't be getting a truly next gen pitfall experience.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 12th 2008 2:48PM
You can if you play uncharted it's the closest thing you'll probably get to pitfall unless you want to play this POS.
Mischa @ May 12th 2008 4:31PM
Oops...
[/sarcasm]
There, fixed.
Chris @ May 12th 2008 2:51PM
I like how every single game that's released for the Wii is advertised as having "innovative controls"- even though very few of them are actually innovative... especially because that's become the norm w/ third party Wii games...
Extra Cheese @ May 12th 2008 2:51PM
They're just riding Indiana Jones's coattails. No one will care by the time it comes out though.
Casey R Williams @ May 12th 2008 2:56PM
Yup, the plural of shaman is "shamen".
telee @ May 12th 2008 3:32PM
Shaman is not derived from the word "man" and as such the plural is not shamen but rather shamans.

No, it's obviously "shapeople," you sexist bastards.

I thought we were talking about the band.
NESv1 @ May 12th 2008 3:03PM
I'm a bonified Nintendo fanboy, yet I'm very compelled to crack open the age-old cliche of "that looks wii-tarded."
Yes, I said it. And now I shall go back to playing GTA4 and Mario Kart Wii. Good day.
Shadow El @ May 12th 2008 3:09PM
Why's everyone being so down on this game? Pitfall: The Lost Expedition (this game's predeccessor) was a truly fun and vastly underrated adventure platformer, and I hope the same for The Big Adventure.
samfish @ May 12th 2008 3:14PM
I'd be more excited for this if, just for once, they could make a game without a goofy toon look for the Wii.
Just once, Activision...just...once...
Chris @ May 12th 2008 5:28PM
I read your comment, then out of my periph I saw LeChuck and was hoping for a "what's wrong with goofy toons?" response. I am saddened. :-(
LeChuck @ May 12th 2008 3:43PM
So is this a port of Lost Expedition or a new game built on the same engine?
Blue_Falcon @ May 12th 2008 3:43PM
WiiWare's LostWinds seriously looks better than this.
samfish @ May 12th 2008 3:56PM
I'm hoping Lost Winds embarrasses a lot of these developers.
It probably won't because they don't seem to have any shame, but still...
DBuck_Eye @ May 12th 2008 3:59PM
It's official: just like pink is the new black, Activision is the new EA. Yeah. I just implied that Activision is pink and gay. Sue me.
KeenCommander @ May 12th 2008 4:06PM
No...oh God no.
NB @ May 12th 2008 4:09PM
I feel ashamed for the Wii.

Yeah, let's judge a product before we even get our hands on it! The usual net nerd way!
Chris @ May 12th 2008 5:32PM
I admit I was ripping on the game (or rather, nearly every game released on the Wii) but your comment= so true! Kudos.
pmasterfunk @ May 12th 2008 11:45PM
*me scrolling down the joystiq page*
scroll... scroll ... read.. read.. scrolll.... WHAT ps1 GAME IS THAT?? !
oh... its just another crappy wii game...sigh.. someone needs to make a good wii game
Shadow El @ May 13th 2008 3:16PM
Like Konami? *points to Elebits and Dewy's Adventure* Or do you mean Capcom? *points very hard at Zack and Wiki*
Steve @ May 12th 2008 8:13PM
I fully agree with Shadow El -- I loved "Lost Expedition." I played it on Gamecube, and had a wonderful summer with it. The only problem with the game was the confusing layout of the worlds (and that awful, awful hard part where you were turned into a scorpion. But I have to ask as well -- is this new Wii game merely a port, or is completely brand new? Sounds from the description to be exactly the same as "Expedition", and Edge of Reality did develop that one. By the way, I also completed "Lost Expedition" for GBA -- the part where Harry was on a pogo stick is literally the hardest level I have ever played on a video game. I had a gaming-expert friend of mine complete it for me, and I treated him to TGIF as payment...
G$ @ May 13th 2008 9:17AM
Wow, Pitfall Harry's character design is worse than the new Rick from the yet to be released Splatterhouse. I predict that game will end up going almost straight into a 9.99 bin a your local wholesale club, approx 1 month after its release date.
