See first screens of Skate It on Wii and DS

- We really wanted to use the above image again. It's like Tim Curry is clawing his way out of the page!
- We genuinely thought you'd be interested to see some screenshots of the Wii and DS versions of EA's well-received Skate.

I don't own a Wii, but that is a brilliant image.
Well done.
Blue_Falcon @ May 12th 2008 10:08PM
Looks good to me. EA may have defeated (more like destroyed) Neversoft in the home console arena, but I'm interested in seeing if they can beat the handheld versions by Vicarious Visions.
Those guys still make good Tony Hawk games, and they're still making one for this year (it'll be a completely new game, despite no console release), so this should be interesting to see.
Roofie @ May 12th 2008 10:09PM
Man, the DS' graphics sure have come a long way.
Brandon @ May 12th 2008 10:14PM
Man that clown always gives me the creeps when I see him.
elmersglue @ May 12th 2008 10:28PM
is it just me or does the wii version look like ass?
Jerk Face @ May 12th 2008 11:00PM
No, no. It does.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 12th 2008 11:16PM
And you've seen the game in motion...
tmacairjordan87 @ May 12th 2008 11:31PM
It's ok cesaria you can admit it looks like total crap. Your nintendo fanhood won't be questioned
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 12th 2008 11:42PM
Need I repeat that I own several systems outside of Nintendo and like a lot of franchises Sony/Microsoft offer? Oh wait, I just did.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 12th 2008 11:56PM
Where'd you go, tmac? Back to your whole because you make baseless accusations?
tmacairjordan87 @ May 13th 2008 12:02AM
It's not baseless everyone here knows you defend the wii to the death only slightly behind fernando
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 13th 2008 12:06AM
Shit man, I'm Fernando level fanboy?!
tmacairjordan87 @ May 13th 2008 12:09AM
Well no that's not really fair. I'd say you're at least a good random sales stat in a totally non-related article or two away.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 13th 2008 12:11AM
Haha. Nice.
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 13th 2008 12:16AM
BTW, I gave you +1 for that. It made me LOL.
is @ May 13th 2008 4:45AM
Im a complete nintendo fanboy and I have no qualms about admitting the wii screens look Shize Minelli.
But I'll aslo admit that graphics do not a good game make, and ill judge it on how it plays.
Fatass of Haikuness @ May 13th 2008 7:05AM
Three whole screenshots! That's just enough to judge the quality of the final product by! Hurrrrr
Fatass of Haikuness @ May 13th 2008 7:05AM
Didn't mean to reply to this comment chain, rather the whole post, heh heh
Nick the Hero of Canton @ May 12th 2008 10:29PM
Why do these Wii games look worse than GameCube games?
Co @ May 12th 2008 10:33PM
Why would anyone want to play a skateboarding game?
tmacairjordan87 @ May 12th 2008 11:05PM
Because developers are putting 1/2 the effort on wii games now, which is scary cause that's borderline negative number territory
MosquitoControl @ May 12th 2008 11:36PM
Because it's the Wii, it's innovative, and graphics don't matter!
Developers are listening, and this is what they're hearing. As a long-time Nintendo fan, I hate to see it going this way. I still think the Wii will experience a very, very harsh drop. History tells us a glut of shit games can torpedo the entire industry, let alone a single company, and the amount of money spent on Wiis purchased by non-gamers and now collecting dust rivals the amount of money spent on pet rocks.
I'm still thinking this will end up remembered as a fad and do some serious long-term damage to Nintendo. And it feels so weird for me to not have a Nintendo system be my go-to system.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Justin T. McElroy Memorial Burn of the Day Award) @ May 13th 2008 12:25AM
History ignores the handheld markets than since the GB, GBC, GBA, and DS have all been omes to gluts of shit games yet Nintendo dominance grows there.
John McPoop @ May 13th 2008 12:28AM
I like skateboarding games (especially Skate and the original Thrasher game) that are realistic because I use to skateboard ... I like the realistic approach Skate took to the genre Tony Hawk created ... When I want realism (driving & sports) I go for the real stuff but when I want less realistic I go for the exaggerated games like a Warhawk for example over the likes of flight simulator and Ace Combat ...
@Co
Would you be more interested if it were a Wii Fit exclusive new IP?

gah!
Nick the Hero of Canton @ May 12th 2008 10:37PM
On the subject of Wii - two things.
1. If I send mine in for repair (I have the dots issue from bad cooling) will I lose all my Wii Shop data?
2. Why the hell won't Nintendo register my serial code when it IS correct? Has anyone else had issues with this?
Noshino @ May 12th 2008 10:39PM
I had issues registering my DS, after the third day, it worked...
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 12th 2008 11:14PM
Let's beat a dead horse: Wii looks worse than GCN. We get it. Shut the fuck up.
License to ill @ May 13th 2008 10:01AM
Get the fuck over it, everyone doesn't share the love for your favorite system or its crappy games...
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 13th 2008 3:49PM
Blow me, douche. There is a huge library of awesome games on the Wii, just like the other two systems. I'm not the biased one here. I play ALL GAMES.
Frojo @ May 12th 2008 11:25PM
I just want Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2 to hit the Virtual Console. Those are some of my top favorite games of all time.
TWiNKiE @ May 12th 2008 11:36PM
I don't get it. Most 3rd party developers make bad looking games, and whine when they don't sell that much.
When will they ever learn that in order to make great games these days, it needs a good balance of both graphics and gameplay. Not just one or the other?
John McPoop @ May 12th 2008 11:55PM
Well I guess they are doing the best they can given the limitations of the console
Anni @ May 13th 2008 12:25AM
I... what? Most third parties haven't even come close to the limitations of the console. I've seen better, you've seen better, we've all seen better, man. The big N has proved it can be done.
DesertPyrate @ May 13th 2008 12:19AM
I own the 360 version of the game and am a current Wii owner, the visuals arent too tempting but hopefully gameplay will make up, I'll give it a go, I love my Wii mainly for Nintendy first party titles I normally get cross platform titles on the 360. Only EA Wii title I own is Boom Blox at the moment
Cesaria (MKW:2621-2994-1376) @ May 13th 2008 12:25AM
How is Boom Blox? I'm a little on the fence about it, even though it's gotten good reviews. I have a hard time justifying $50 for it, for some reason.
Ken Seang @ May 13th 2008 12:32AM
So is this gonna be ported to the ps2?
DesertPyrate @ May 13th 2008 12:47AM
@ Cesaria
Sorry to reply this way, the system wouldnt let me reply to your post the normal way, Boom Blox is pretty damn fun if you like puzzle like games. I'm playing a little GTA online but mainly NBA 2k8 with friends since its playoff time in the NBA. I got Mario Kart, SSBB, and Dragon Ball Z BT3 as my online games for Wii, I really got Boom Blox as my wife likes stuff like that too. Let me know what Wii games you've got online, I can always use more people to add to my dreaded code list of friends
Paulmichael @ May 13th 2008 1:44AM
Using the analog sticks in a novel way was perfect for this game, but I'm not about to flail my arms like a moron in order to pull off tricks! I kind of want to see how it'll be done on the DS, but then I would want to see online features in that as well...
Foetoid @ May 13th 2008 8:22AM
Don't gimme this bs 'flailing' argument, it's so OLD!. Not 1 Wii game i own (out of the 12 i have) requires more than wrist flicks and wrist movements to play perfectly. Wii Sports is obviously different, it's a sports simulator, but do you really think EA would fuck up the graphics and require you to 'flail' as well?
coast19 @ May 13th 2008 2:31PM
No flailing on this one, it uses the pointer or similar movements. Here, IGN has a video of how the tricks are done.
http://media.wii.ign.com/media/856/856185/vids_1.html
Paulmichael @ May 13th 2008 6:57PM
Hmm, I'd still rather use the 360 or PS3's sticks, but yeah there's no flailing.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ May 13th 2008 1:56AM
I'll keep my eye out for the DS version.
RastamanD @ May 13th 2008 3:10AM
hell yeah....a real reason to get the balance board. I skate so this seems pretty fun. I hope they use the Wiimote in conjunction with the balance board. support for the GC or classic controller would be good to, because brawl and MK seem to be doing very well with that idea of using many controllers and schemes.
t_m @ May 13th 2008 4:52AM
Wow. I usually think people are pretty harsh on Wii graphics, but that does look worse than the Tony Hawk and Agressive Inline games on the Gamecube. *
using the wiimote like an actual board would be very cool though... if they can get that to work. Can't work out how the DS one would control though. (well, it could control like American Skateland, which rocked on the DS, but it wouldn't be very inovative).
*wii games do usually look much better in motion and on a TV than in screenshots on a monitor though.
John Z @ May 13th 2008 7:56AM
Picture is win.
Fanboy bitching is fail.
Foetoid @ May 13th 2008 8:12AM
As long as it has the same controls as Downhill Jam then i'll be happy. It is by far the most underrated Wii game and the best Tony Hawk game in the franchise (and yes i have finished ALL of them). It is so much fun to play. Takes a bit of getting used to i'll admit, but once you've mastered the controls, it's the best in the series. I just hope this game has graphics at least as good and identical controls.
Foetoid @ May 13th 2008 8:19AM
OMFG. I just saw the screenshots. WTF are they thinking!. Not only does it look bland and jagged (and looks like ass compared to the LAUNCH title Downhill Jam) but the controls for Downhill Jam worked perfectly because of the downhill nature of the game and you were always moving forward. WHERE THE FUCK IS DOWNHILL JAM 2!. We need to start pitching ideas to these stupid companies. Prime 1 & 2 took up 1.8gb each, so both would fit on a single Wii DVD disk with room to spare to have the optional Metroid Prime 3 controls and obligatory 16:9 480p. COME ON NINTENDO!
Spin44 @ May 18th 2008 10:28AM
Are the controls for the 360 one as difficult as the guy here says? The jumping and trick selection with the joysticks sound really confusing :( Most third party games don't use the wii controls very well but I have been wanting to play skate and now that it's coming to Wii I must get it :D
