Considering Alone in the Dark is expected to sell 2-3 million copies this year, that confidence might be a little hard to understand after seeing this "GTA in hell" video. Oh well, hopefully we'll still be able to light plenty of stuff on fire.
Alone in the Dark shows off driving gameplay

If you like cheese, then you're gonna love the new Alone in the Dark gameplay trailer after the break. Try to ignore the giant pop-up on how to turn off the car's headlights and just focus on the voice acting, which even Resident Evil fans might cringe at. Who knows, maybe the game is supposed to be filled with fromagey goodness?

I hope she doesn't talk all the time. Either way, I'll be getting the game and it will be fun still. RE5 comes out this year right?

RE5 probably won't be out until at least the end of next year.
(If you were being sarcastic, I apologise).

I just love the unmitigated glee in his voice about having to jump over a giant hole in a collapsing parking garage filled with monsters. Wheeeeee!

Looks pretty good. Although that voice acting is truly awful... where's the panic?! It sounds like they're just driving around the mall.

stuff like this are very often in games to add more "gameplay" but mostly they are more like "meh". Just hope it will be easy so you can make it in one take and forget about the car part after 2 days you played the game. The action sequences in Sanitarium is a good example for this(just played it recently and i totaly had forgotten the part). Mostly different gameplay mechanics which dont have really to do with the game but are put in anyway tend to destroy almost the whole good feelings about a game. The driving in hl2 wasnt so easy and was a bit too long .first with the hover then the car and a lot of people were frusted. But HL2 was a superb game so you could overlook these problems. But for an avarage game its the ultimate killer.

I actually loved the driving bits in Half Life 2. Thought Valve was very brave in making them so long, but the puzzles were pretty solid and I had a blast.
The driving in Gears however was about a tenth of the length and managed to frustrate me ad infinitum. I guess it only pays off if the effort gets put in.

yeah the hl2 puzzles rawk totally!! i diddnt found the driving parts frustrating just a bit boring if you compare it with the action and pace in overall. Not the one in Ep2 which is totally awsum!
Thats exactly the point i was trying to get :D
sometimes you play it and its so frustraiting you say oh would be better without this stuff. Like the car race in Mafia.Damn that sucked it was so difficult there were at least 10 different trainers i knew only for skipping the awful racing part.

So it seems like they are really shitting in the story of previous AITD games and simply setting it in 2008.

Not really. For one, AitD4 already shifted the series into modern times (without explanation). Also I've read that the anachronism will somehow be part of the story in this game.

Yeah, I didn't notice any pop-up. I DID notice how that car seemed to have no suspension and the tires seemed to be made of ice.
Oh, that and it looked like shit.

Actually, this reminded me more of Dead Rising than "GTA IV in hell"...except AITD has a *lot* fewer zombies. What made the driving underground driving part of Dead Rising so much fun was being able to mow down the zombies.

There might be a reason why dialogue is often outsourced to writers.
