EA announced today that sales were way up this past fiscal year. Still, all those billions didn't stop the company from losing $454 million. While the publisher's revenues increased an amazing 19% to $3.7 billion, and EA saw its FY08 Q4 bring in $1.1 billion, the overall loss was a far cry from the company's $76 million in profit during FY07. Much of the loss can be attributed to EA's expensive tastes, which included the purchase of BioWare and Pandemic in FY08.
EA CEO John Riccitiello said that the company has felt "aggressive change" over the last year and was pleased with the revenue numbers (far more than Activision made in its FY08), which crowned EA as the undisputed, number one publisher in North America and Europe for the fiscal year. EA had 27 games reach the platinum mark in sales, 15 of which went double platinum. In the new fiscal year though, Riccitiello would definitely like to see some profit. The company, in giving guidance for FY09, predicts revenues between $4.9 and $5.15 billion. The EA Games label plans to release more than 20 titles, including 9 new IPs, in FY09.

Thats the key in ur argument, once they buy Take 2 ... everyone knows they need Take 2 without it they are a dying company.
We dont want the company to disappear, just to become small enough to understand that rehashing is not the way to go.

It'll probably be 2010 or 2015 before they profit again. It will certainly take awhile for T2 to make whatever game their new masters will want them to make. In the meantime, that 2 billion plus the loan are going to be riding their ass. Heck, they haven't even calculated current production loses on Spore.

It really does help to hurt their profit margin when people yanno, stop buying their games.
Not only that, their recent attempt to force SecuROM more titles like Mass effect and Spore just makes me despise them more and more. I won't be buying anything E.A. related.
If I really want to buy anything E.A. related, I'll buy it second-hand, because E.A. doesn't get profits from second-hand sales.
Except that's what they're trying to kill with DRM so they can rake as much profit as they can.

I sometimes wish EA was in Atari's position right now.

To lose nearly $500 million when you bring in revenue of $3.6 billion is inexcusable. It shows that your company is too big and the red tape and outlandish CEO salaries are ruining profitability. How is EA going to recover profit from the 2 billion TK2 takeover after GTAIV made it out.
EA has a monopoly on sports and is trying to become the only publisher of games. The US government under one of thier only mandated powers should break EA up just like they should break Microsoft up.
When are people going to wake up and demand that the government break up harmful corporations.
