Gamestop: GTAIV 360 sells almost 2 to 1 over PS3 in first week of sales

More news regarding the sales of GTA IV! Apparently GameStop has exclusively given its sales figures to Newsweek's LevelUp blog. And the figures say that 64% of all copies of GTA IV sold in the first week of sales were sold on the 360. An even two thirds would've made two to one, but these are only the first week's sales, so who knows how things will pan out as time goes by.

We've heard rumors about the shipment sizes of the PS3 versions versus the 360 versions that (if true) could mean that initial shipment sales of the 360 version simply can't ever match the PS3 version until stocks are refilled. While the Gamestop sales are still good news, we'll have to wait for the April NPD for a more concrete take on the game's long term sales.

yep rent, i cant play gta for longer than a week, it gets redundant being arrested over and over.

Yea I'm with him, I need to rent it. But not because I only need it for a week, it's cause I can't afford it.

You should be alright, this one is very easy compared to the rest, I only died a handful of times throughout the story really, never actually got arrested.

Dude I'm almost 40 hours in and I've been arrested maybe 3 times and that's only because I couldn't get out of the car in time.

I'm saying I've heard that that may be the case, yes. The series was traditionally a Playstation title, remember.

But that's why they're called rumors, no really knows for sure.

So, the 360 sold more, but the PS3 shipped out more? And now someones crying? Sounds like the most exciting news ever. Although... I don't see how someone should be happy or upset by this. TakeTwo profits, Rockstar profits, Microsoft profits, and Sony profits, do you profit? Most likely not. The sales figure doesn't make the game experience any better for you. Oh well right. Flaming Trolls need their fuel I suppose.

This should not be a surprise given the 360 has sold millions more console than that paperweight PS3..

But...But...I thought this was the year of the PS3. Maybe home...wait not that. Maybe Haze...thats not it either. Ah i got it, Killzone 2 will turn the tide...*does more research* Ok i got it now, MGS4 will take care of it all.

Beat me to it and made my morning. Just sold my paperweight and don't really care to play the other PS3 killer LittleBigWaste this Fall if it ever gets released.

Traded my PS3 in last weekend for an elite :) Love my Xbox, never getting rid of it.

You's think form the Joystiq version of this story that this is all somehow bad news for the 360. I swear I thought it was the PS3Fanboy take on the numbers.

Why didn't you mention todays news about the instal base ratio? It points out that the 360 version is actually underperforming! (No I'm not a PS3 fanboy I have a 360 too). I justs find it odd that you just blanked it out and ignored it when it was part of the same article on other sites.

probably because that spin on numbers means absolutely nothing. The ps3 market is still hungry for a game like GTA, and ps3 is newer. Logically that would imply more people who own it have fewer games to play than most 360 gamers, so they're more willing to buy it in the first week.

Had a coworker go out and buy a 360 to play GTA IV. Haven't heard anyone going out to get a PS3 for GTA IV.

who cares what sold what one what system. All that matters is take two is making money so they wont have to sell to EA. If EA takes over GTA the game is gonna go down hill and come out every year with nothing new like madden. So be happy the game sells on "both" systems. Stop being fanboys and tell people to buy the game on both systems so EA cant wreck this game like they do everything else.

I understand people complaining about fanboyism on sites like joystiq, where things are geared towards all gamers. But this is xbox360FANBOY for gods sake... surprisingly, a lot of xbox fanboys visit this site...who would've thought? We're allowed to enjoy the fact that the 360 sold more copies of GTA than did the ps3...

quite honestly, i'm starting to get more annoyed with the people that bitch about console wars than the people actually waging them. At least the back and forth fights/arguments are entertaining.

there's no fun in reading "they're all good in their own way" over and over again.

True elmersglue, but I see the members on 360fanboy being much more fanboyish than the ones on PS3fanboy.

When I went and bought the game, there were 2 guys there (not together) that both were buying 360s and GTA. I also personally know 2 people that did the same.

That being said, I don't think GTA is all that, lol

I agree, it's fun and all, but in my opinion doesn't deserve the ridiculously high praise it has received. Maybe a 9.3 or so, not 10.

Regardless, is a win win situation for both MS and Sony. Nintendo is the only one not getting a piece of the GTA pie.

GTA IV is all hype after the multi-player your going to not play it as much. Saints Row 2 FTW!!

The 360 hit the market way earlier then the PS3 so obviously it has a higher install base.
This is nothing to "declare victory" over.

No shit, especially when the Xbox has a 3:1 installed base (at least in the US where NPD watches numbers).
