Gears of War 2 'Assault' screens, plus weapon-specific executions announced

Microsoft and Epic dropped a quartet of Gears of War 2 screenshots today, the first, and taken from the roller coaster-like sequence featured in recent campaign videos ("Act One, Chapter Three: 'Assault,'" to be exact). We also dug through the accompanying fact sheet (actually, credit X3F for the dirty work) and uncovered this single, tasty morsel: "new weapon-specific executions." No specific details yet -- but the nasty fantasies dancing in your head right now are probably close enough.

Hey now. Give credit where credit is due. This actually looks very cool. I've always liked Gears of Man-Love. I'll be sure to pick this up for my PC when it comes out.

The most genius thing sony did was to put the bluray inside NOT only to play HD movies, but only so guys could tell their wives they were buying a Bluray player and come home with a ps3 and not have totally lied.

I tell my friends to tell their wives that it is a blu-ray player also. Hell, even if you NEVER play a game on the PS3 it does so much other stuff that it is still worth the money.

It works more often than not, especially if the wife in question sees a Blu-ray movie on my Panny.

I played the first one, loved it. I know longer have a 360 because it died (not RRoD) and Im bitter about it, take my ranting with a grain of salt

I probably spent more time with this game online then with any other(including COD4), I'm really excited for this game.

They need to drop more info on the online modes!

when using the new gorgon pistol and i believe when you approach a downed opponent you press B you use the weapon in your hand for a melee finisher. Also when approaching a downed opponent if you press A you will pick them up and use them as a meat shield. Also when approaching a downed opponent if you press X i believe you still do a classic curb stomp. These are all what i believe to happen with the following buttons, i cannot confirm them to be accurate.

Why is everything grey and/or brown?

Is there a plot element that explains it?

You see my child, WARS are dirty, destructive, and ugly. Go watch Private Ryan and you will see. Explosive residue, debris, burnt out machinery and houses, not to mention DIRT, yknow, the brown stuff on the ground, all contribute to the "brown/grey" look.

Only in Star Wars and Halo is War portrayed as a colorful experience. That is why KZ2 and GEARS look to have so many shades of grey.

If you and others would just take a moment to think, you would have come up with this answer all by yourself w/o me having to explain it to you as if you were a child.

One more reason as to why so much brown/grey. The soldiers and soldiers equipment need to be camouflaged so that they are harder for the enemy to see. Since dirt is brown smoke is grey and burnt or destroyed machinery is black, what better way to blend in to the surrounding then to mimic the predominant colors?

This is NOT the 17th century when COLOR in War was thought of as a good thing and standing still in a line while being fired upon was considered good military strategy. (I still cannot believe those soldiers had the balls to stand there while getting shot at all the while knowing that if they get injured, a barbaric "Field Hospital" amputation w/o anesthesia awaited them.

Blending into the surrounding environments is all fine and dandy, if not for the glow maps applied to Gears armor. Unless they happen to think "LEDs explode all over the battlefield too... so let's all look like meaty dead christmas trees."

Look, not jumping on the "grey brown" rants here. If it's an art style, go with it. Dirty and gritty can be an art style. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't try to make excuses for that style talking about camoflage when all the armor in Gears soldiers all have glowing accents....

That would be the shiny/plastic UE3 rearing its shiny head. Perhaps the camo in KZ2 would have been a better example.

So, your new game is nearing release, how many copies will NG2 sell? Do you think it will be considered the greatest action hack/slash that you claim it to be?

I predict Ninja Gaiden 2 will sell 300 million on the first day. The DLC, likewise, will outpace Rock band downloads and people will FIND a way to play Ninja Gaiden 2 online so I can beat GTA IV and COD4 off the top of Live lists as well. I believe the Otaku population in Japan will be urged to buy my game since I will be patrolling Akihabara District on my motorcycle looking for nerds without my game and beating them up for their H-statues money...

I think we all know this is going to be a fucking kickass game, I'll probably get a 360 later this year to play it and other great games as well.

Its too bad that 360 owners never got the extra content on the PC version which my brother got, why is that since most of the players and fanbase of this series are 360 owners??????????

Yeah, but by the time they released the additional PC stuff I had already moved on to new games.

I know thats not Carmine with the Helmet on because he died, but I'm glad that guys back. Looks awesome and I liked using him in MP.

Gears will undoubtedly be a HUGE game for the 360, but for me, I will take the plethora of quality AAA games heading the PS3's way this 3rd and 4th quarter over just one HUGE game.
