That was not good. What is with the writing? And the voice? Trying way too hard to be grizzled.

Did he mention control?

The second video on PS3fanboy is MUCHO better. Very much like a theatrical trailer.

Have you people never played MGS?

Same voice actor as always. Same type over the top bullshit. Its the gameplay that makes MGS good, not the intro, the voice actor, or the crazy ass storyline.

Gameplay.

I happen to like the voice and writing, but I also recognize that MGS doesn't take itself very seriously. This is a guy that kills nuclear tanks with a .45 and a pack of smokes, then thumbs his bandanna and says "infinite ammo".

You have to take it like Star Trek. They're going to bounce a tachyon b

I agree that the over-the-top cheese is a hallmark of the MGS series, but damn that was bad. Now, that "theatrical" trailer was fucking amazing. I am buying a PS3 for this game and that trailer really drove it home.

The video tells you that war has changed, but then you see that they're still driving 1950's trucks and wearing headscarves when the nano-bots should technically be able to protect them from sunburn.

Funny how you need to COMMENT on a game that you have negative interest in. Because of your airtight statement, I am no longer going to buy this game, in fact, I am going to bash my PS3 to the curb and run out and buy a 360 and a Wii.

Thanks for saving me from this horrible game. Now I can play real gems like Wii cheer for Wii.

Sorry to burst your precious and sensitive bubble. I've been wanting to be interested in this game due to the hype and the fact I've never played a MGS game (unless you count the online beta which I didn't enjoy). I want to get into it, but the more I watch the more it's lost in translation for me. Enjoy your Wii, I lost interest in that soccer-mom over-hyped load of tripe too.

wait, if you have zero interested, then there is no interest...and if there is no interest, then there can't be less interest....

OK iFester,

Do not get discouraged by the B movie voiceovers. The MSG series has been top notch since the 1st 1 in 98. Just buy the game, you will not regret it. And if you don't like it, sell it on ebay.

Ugh, sounds so overblown. I wouldn't mind the anti-war theme, but not when it's crammed down my throat like I'm some sort of 2 dollar hooker on some of less savory websites around.

Plus, do those nanobots remove brains? I guess the soldiers of the future haven't figured out the concept of "cover"

I mean really, I wouldn't mind the anti-war/anti-conflict themes coming out of Japan if they were done well. But they seem to be so busy making a point that it makes all the characters seem retarded and ruins the story.

We aren't all goddamn retards, we can draw our own conclusions.

but i dont see how much war has changed. machines are built by poeple, or liquid snake. so they have to be there some some sort of power control. true dosent explain much.

exactly what I was thinking, way too short to be the intro movie. Did somebody use one of the earlier vids and try to do thier best Snake impression. It sounded like someone recorded one saying of control and reused it over and over.

Instead of Snaaaaaaaaake it's now Contrrrrrooooooooooooool

You know... with the time spent on these remixed trailers, you'd think they could've put the same effort toward a smoother sign-up process for MGObeta initially.

Or hey... here's an idea: a fawkin' DEMO. Eh? Eh?

HA! found it. an accidental alt+space submits comments...

anyway. You have to take MGS like Star Trek. They're going to bounce a tachyon beam off the main deflector dish and they're going to be completely serious about it, no matter how ridiculous it is. Snake fights a crazy guy covered in bees? The game is going to be completely straight faced about it, but it isn't serious. The cheese is intentional. The voice and writing compliment that.

This game takes itself way too seriously.

Terrible, terrible writing and acting.

And people say that video game production values are on par with films. If this is the best of video game cinematics then Ed Wood is laughing.

@Hyams

Now I am not supposed to take MGS seriously? Hyams you are actually one of the more rational Sony fans around here so I am not picking a bone with you, but now I am not supposed to take MGS storylines seriously when all I have been hearing from its fans that MGS is some kind of high art storytelling because I supposedly "don't understand" its bizarre intricacies?

I agree. Yes, the visuals are good, but not groundbreaking. I myself have a 360, but am still hoping to play this sometime on a firend's PS3, but in an interview did Kojima say that this only just fitted onto 1 Blu-Rau disc? If so then the story must be longer than I thought.

Anyway, if these games have 'great storytelling', then Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy must have had a FANTASTIC story, which it did. Play it right now. You can get it off of XBL Original Xbox downloads section and on PS2.

A little off topic, but has anyone else realised that the voice of Colonel Campbell on MGS is the same voice for the Head of Police in Condemned 2?

he's saying MGS characters often satirize themselves, likely a conscious decision the kojima because, let's face it, he's a weird guy.

Some of the more awkward lines (overuse of the word control!) made more sense in earlier trailers when the Japanese voice actor was saying them, his phrasing was different. They should have rewritten the lines to be less awkward in English rather than just reading off the sub.

I still thought it was great though. Damn, I'm going to have to buy a PS3 just to play this?

Crappy voice acting, just trash. The script is silly, but it's just regular MGS fare, it's the voice acting that killed it.

Ugh.

Love the writing for MGS, no matter what people say, when I write, its this sort of plot I look towards for ideas, it seems bizzare at periods, but there are moments in MGS that are epic.

I'd rather this anywho then all that macho man crap we seem to be forced to play these days, if not that, its something cutsie. My only issue with MGS is that the plot often takes over the game too often, making it linear and giving you less play time, more watch time.

However, I think MGS is the only game other then Bioshock that I can see translating well into a potential oscar winning movie.

Halo or Gears as movies is about as laughable as the sims movie, I can see more happening with a Gears movie then a Halo movie, I'm not going to pay to watch cutsie looking aliens attempt to take over Earth, only to be pwned by a man in the most powerful armour in the universe.

Funny, I'm suprised theres no books for MGS, theres so much plot, theres enough to make an entire series of books.

BTW, where is Eva? I want more Eva :(
