Some sharp eyes have spotted an interesting blip in a recent PlayStation 3 video, "What you Need." If you take look at the picture above (click for a higher-resolution shot), you can clearly see a section of the PS Store for television channels, including NBC, HBO, The CW, Cartoon Network (listed twice), MTV, Discovery Channel and others.
Television content from these channels are also currently available via Xbox Live Marketplace. Is this just a mockup from an overzealous ad firm, or a hint at an impending announcement? With E3 just around the corner, we'll likely know soon enough. Video embedded after the break.
well fernando, that ad was for Playboy...you gotta admit that that ad was freaking hillarious
Yah, I want to see how they would market the Wii on Playboy...a pair of chicks wearing school uniforms and as a header "Wii would like to play"...HELL YAH!
I never understood the big deal for this on either system. Why would you pay money to watch something you can watch for free on tv? Yes you do have to pay a tv bill but that's a once per month purchase for unlimited viewing.
Kinda like why would you spend 8.50 per rental when you can just spend about 15-20 a month for unlimited rentals (and 2 out at a time)
Sometimes the airing time of a program doesn't match with your schedule and you are busy at the time, so you just buy that one program not only without ads but lately you can also find them quite often in HD.

I had Netflix, and after a year I realized that I didn't watch that many movies, at least for me it is more cost effective to just go rent a movie when I want one.
That last part was in reference to how much better gamefly is over blockbuster. I guess if you're only renting 1 or 2 movies/games a month than blockbuster is better than gamefly or netflix but anymore than that and it becomes more cost effective (factoring the gas used to drive to blockbuster..i know for me it's like 20 miles).
A lot of shows dont come on when I have time for them, so renting/dling them makes sense. Besides this, when you have not watched a show in seasons past, sometimes you want to watch the older ones to catch up.

I worked it out, and I found I could rent all the episodes I watch in a year for less than I was spending on my cable TV subscription! I said "goodbye" to cable TV and I've never looked back.
I don't have a TV bill personally, I've got internet coming into the house only, TV just doesn't have enough amusing content anymore for me to want to pay a monthly fee. I do use Xbox Video Marketplace more and more though, it appeals to my lazy side since i don't have to leave the couch, and that's worth a few bucks. Also shows aren't that badly priced, like $2/episode i think? When I last had a cable bill it was around $90/month. I don't buy too much from the TV side of the marketplace, but I assure you between that an my movie rentals from the service I'm spending less than $90/month

The ones that are unknown are because I'm from the UK, so I'm not too savvy on US channels. The fact that there are duplicates probably means it is a mock-up, but does show the intention Sony has.
If this is "big" E3 worthy news I feel sorry for PS3 owners. Maybe something else? I honestly wonder what the Big Three will show. We all know Nintendo will brag about sales and Wii Fit probably maybe Kid Icarus will make an appearance? M$ will probably boast IPtv and hype Gears 2, be something if the on again off again blu ray add on was announced by M$. Now down to Sony? What do they have, hmmm? Killzone 2 hype yet again, thats old, maybe more "Home" hype? How about a God of War 3 showing? That be sweet, anyways I hope all 3 have a big showing, but this is kinda lame
i dont really understand why Sony doesnt already have this anyway. not only do they OWN a movie studio, but they also produce alot of the shows on Adult Swim and plenty elsewhere.
i probably wouldnt use the feature though honestly. if i dont catch a show when it comes on on TV, i usually just watch them on my laptop in between classes at school (most semesters i usually have a free hour in my schedule somewhere). the fact that networks like NBC and Cartoon Network do this now is great, since i can catch encore episodes for like 2 weeks after the show has aired whenever i feel like it, for free. and i only have to watch like a 30 second ad to do it (only downside is video quality). i usually buy the Season sets of shows i like anyway (waiting on Shin Chan Season 1 now since no-one decided to put it out even though it released today).
Sony already hinted that video downloads are coming so im hoping this isnt their big E3 announcement. that would be a huge letdown.

I think I prefer the "Wii would want to play" ads than the Sony thumb one.

(I'm finding this video quite useful...)
Sorry... I didn't know it was for a Playboy magazine. The article didn't say anything.
But I just saw the Playboy logo in the ad.

Dude, here in s. florida there are Blockbusters all over the place...hell, as many as Starbucks!
As far as games go, I don't rent them, I like to keep all my games, hence why I'm a bit picky when buying them.
