It looks like help may be on the way for those of you who are still experiencing some freezing problems with Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3. One user on the official PlayStation forums said he received an email from Take-Two stating the issue was "with the launch edition of the PS3 and this game" and that "the game was checked over and passed as 100% compatible with the current version of the PS3."
As for the fix, the alleged Take-Two staffer reportedly wrote that "Sony are aware of this difference and are looking into producing a new firmware just for the earlier version of the PS3." Wow, a whole new firmware update? For one game? We hope the swelled head doesn't affect Niko's balance when he's bludgeoning and murdering hookers.

Since I finished the first Little Jacob mission yesterday, my 60gb PS3 has frozen several times after playing like for 10-15 minutes. I have to shut it off, and on startup, the disc isn't detected, I eject and reinsert it and it detects it and freezes again after a short while.
I just installed the patch today and so far no freezes, lets hope it stays that way. Really enjoying the game.

And yet still no fix in sight for the xbox 360 version. Why no reporting on this?

Didn't you hear? There is no problem on the 360 version. It was all a plot to screw up a poll that joystiq posted. It was really PS3 fans voting that they had 360 problems.......
Isn't that correct Premiere Assassin?

The problem could come from launch PS3s that had the original firmware installed. A line of code that was supposed to be overwritten may not have been and that has been screwing things up. PS3s that were built and sent out with later firmware builds might not have this problem because the old code never existed on those systems.
It probably took Sony a long time to figure out the code that may cause the crashing. Just be glad we have firmware updates and problems can be fixed.
I can't install SP2 or 3 on my laptop because something in my computer BIOS causes the OS to crash after 15 seconds. A BIOS update could solve this but one was never made.

GTA IV is a wonderful game to say the least with an attention to detail rarely seen.
Suffice to say...while I'm glad I didn't have to pick it up for my PS3......a good game should be enjoyed by all and best wishes that the probs are fixed for PS3 copy owners.....
It truly was worth the delay.
I figure it will take me til XMAS to finish everything...just in time for DLC!! :)
