You've seen the leaked Xbox 360 screenshots of his next awesomely alliterative adventure, but perhaps you weren't quite sure what the bear with a bird in his backpack was doing in any of them. According to numerous online reports (here's one and here's another), Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts sees the eponymous creature exploring "Showdown Town" and collecting parts to assemble all manner of physics-based, LEGO-like vehicles. The game's vehicle editor is said to be accessible at any point, meaning that the last thingamabob you picked up (one of 1,600) might just have a use in, say, a helicopter. Or a hovercraft.
The unconfirmed word (we're just waiting for Microsoft to officially blast out all this info at its Gamer's Day today)confirmed word is that we'll get to be the bear with a bird in a backpack building a bulldozer this November. Be sure to spy the game's debut trailer after the break.
I hear you Fenix, that was the CLOSEST sweep I have ever seen in any sport. I was on pins and nails during Game 4, aside from getting the TRUE Sox fans and not the bandwagoners to chant CUBS SUCK at the Bar I was at.
That Sox playoff run was one of the best ever. FOUR complete games, in a ROW. That will never happen again.
Wow, Banjo and Mario used to be friends... Or at least he was a friend of a friend?
This was the game that made me want to get a 360, but all this vehicle stuff? It looks like GTA meets Lego meets Diddy Kong Racing meets a little bit of Banjo-Kazooie.
I'm not sure I like the emphasis on vehicles yet. If done right it'll probably be like jak 2 or 3 (which is good) but if done bad it'll just be another Rare flop. Guess I'm cautiously optimistic for now
Hmmm...well, seeing as how Rare really hasn't made a good game since they left Nintendo, I can't help but be kind of skeptical about this one. Not to mention, there's a problem similar to Viva Pinata's, namely that most of the target audience owns a Wii. I'm just really really hoping they don't screw up my Banjo. This looks...different, but not bad. Yet.
The first thing that popped into my head when I saw the vehicles was OMGWTF GUMMISHIPS??!?! You have to admit, there's a lot of similarities, especially with the anthropomorphic talking animals as pilots.
Like most of you, I'll remain cautiously optimistic. Here's hoping there's no driving/flying through rings minigames (why must damned near every platformer with a vehicle have this?)
It surprises me how negative a lot of people are acting towards this game. It looks very interesting and sounds very original. The games premise sounds pretty fun and I like the design style. I wasn't too interested in this game before but after seeing this I am very interested.
One of my favorite games... destroyed. BLASPHEMY! One of the best platformers ever made is now a racing game? Bummer. And what's with the "heavy-metalification" of the music? Do they think that's what will make this cartoon appeal to the "adults". Misguided and clueless... Sorry Rare.... you lost me on this one. :(
The metal version of the remix was originally a hidden musicbite in Kameo, they're probably just using it since its become the iconic "Next gen" version of the theme since it was discovered in Kameo.
Furthermore the music was also used in the teaser trailer last year, and you did see that right? I mean if it was one of favorite games, I'm sure you did. Complaining about that small, small, tiny aspect NOW seems like a waste especially since the ingame music was performed by a live orchestra in the city of Prague.
Finally, its not really a racing game. View the vehicles as an extension to your moveset that is highly customizable (at least thats the theory).
That being said, game looks damned good. Not LittleBigPlanet good, but like Viva Pinata good (and I really like Viva Pinata's style).
Looks aren't everything though. I'm as disappointed as everyone else is with the whole emphasis on vehicles. Platformers aren't fucking pure anymore! I was hoping for a good 3D platformer to rival Galaxy. Not that I have a Wii nor a 360 (PS3 FTW), but yeah I was hoping my opposition would at least have something to compete with LittleBigPlanet. Well, 360 needs its guns and vehicles, so... congrats M$ fanboys?
I was about 98% (literally) done with the original Banjo and my save file got corrupted. I have held an angry grudge ever since. I might have to forgive and forget because this looks sweet. I love platformers, all the way back to Pitfall! on the 2600.
Speaking of platformers, here's a gem that no one ever seems to mention: Mickey's Castle of Illusion on the Genesis. Beautiful 2D art and animation, creative deisgn. They should put that out on Live Arcade or Wii Shop.
Another forgotten gem of platforming is Jazz Jackrabbit 2. I'm not sure why exactly since its the best 2d platformer with (imo) some of the best sprite animation around, great multiplayer modes, and a very intuitive level editor.
Yet every time I mention it I get a ton of people going "I loved Jazz Jackrabbit! Never knew they made a sequel"
What is Rare implying by blowing up Mario? Are they trashing a company that helped them realize their height of popularity and creativity? Rare was big back in the day. Now they are with Microsoft, and really, they are shadows of their former selves. It's like Utah Jazz fans booing Derek Fisher. For what? It's garbage.
garbage. Sure it will be fun but its not a true banjo kazooie part 3. This sucks, RARE, you have done a lot of fans injustice who dreamed of treasure chest cove and freezeasy peak. This was one of the biggest games I was looking forward to on the 360. Platformers are so hard to find now days. Truly and sincerely disappointed.
Many overly optimistic people are taking the sit back and watch approach hoping that it's not what it looks like, a vehicle design game with a small emphasis on the actual character, Banjo-Kazooie. However it is confirmed from the official RAREWARE.com site that the game will DROP the original "core gameplay mechanics" of Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie and focus MAINLY on vehicle design as the CORE gameplay mechanics. Yes, sure, it will be fun, I have no doubt. BUT BUT BUT. We're not getting what original fans wanted, a true Banjo-Threeie. That's it, no debate required.
