Joystiq managed to grab a second of Cliff Bleszinski's time at Microsoft's Spring Showcase yesterday (seems like everyone did). Naturally, the discussion centered around Epic's bigger, badder, more badass sequel to Gears of War, which they have wisely dubbed Gears of War 2. Lots of things are discussed in the interview, ranging from merchandising to how Gears of War pacing will work with hundreds of enemies on screen. The biggest tidbit in the interview, however, centers around the game's online functionality. When asked whether or not Gears of War 2 will feature a party system, Cliffy responded, "I think that if we were not to have a feature like that, it would probably be a pretty big fuckup."
Yeah, that should be enough to pique your interest. Head over to Joystiq for the full interview.

I agree. Say what you want about Halo 3, but the party system is by far the most advanced one on 360. It makes it easy to play with friends, change gametypes without disbanding the party (COD), and provides better matchmaking.
I wouldn't mind if it was a direct rip-off.

YES. Epic you own. Now just give us party based matchmaking for ranked and party joining and server searching for unranked and you will have a perfect system. I feel like its a bit restrictive in Halo and think unranked should have matchmaking, but also server searching for public games.

Thank god. Seriously, this would have been a major f* up. I think party systems should be the standard in MP team based games.

Hope they add a rank leveling up feature as well, a la COD4, RSV, H3. It would be EPIC...no pun intended.

i hope not. gow was perfect besides the lack of a party system, which i feel didn't even bring it down that much.

Why are people so offended by curse words? I applaud you Richard for your use of language. Some people need to grow some fucking balls.

Halo always has been many steps ahead of the competition in pretty much every aspect, but hopefully EPIC gets on the ball and makes a party system on par with what is expected.

That pic is quality! "CliffyB needs YOU."
Also the more I see it, the more I feel Gears2 is needing a colon.
Gears of War 2: Bigger. Better. More Badass.
You know it makes sense!
