-The game sold bout 5mill, thats insane for a new IP
-It's still to this day on LIVES top 5

Those 2 stats right there should tell you something.

The game is all around bad-ass! Graphics, gameplay, sound, music, voicework, multiplayer. Don't ask people to explain to you why. *IF...you have a 360 or pc its a must play, put it that way.

That doesn't really answer my question though. I do own a 360 and have played it, but I wasn't very impressed. I know that it was popular and I'm sure that people have good reasons for liking it, I just want to know what those reasons are.

I played the game, not a favorite of mine, but I felt it was worth the time I spent. I liked the 'quick reload' that you could master. I liked the emphasis on co-op that has essentially made every game in this genre add a co-op element.

However, it also came out around the same time at Rainbow 6:Vegas, which implemented a far better cover system (this is a widely-held opinion, not simply my own), one that became intuitive within a few minutes, and makes you wish EVERY game would just rip it off. The only problem I had with Gears of War was the cover system: the sticky, annoying cover system.

Spacefluffer, I'd explain it to you but everyone yells when people make long posts and if I were to explain all the reasons I love Gears it would take up the entire page just for the cliff's notes version.

Here's a short answer: Gears is a great game because I think it's great. I've probably squeezed at least 400 hours of play time out of it, between the single player campaign, co-op campaign, and multiplayer. It's gorgeous, fun, and was a social hub for me and my other friends who have families and can't go out on Tuesday nights and get drunk the way we did when we were single and 25. Hell, we even had a Gears League. I suppose that in the end, no matter how shitty or excellent a game is, if *you* like it- or dare I say, love it- then in the end, it's a great game, no matter what curmudgeons say in ill-conceived posts on the internet. And judging by the numbers, I'd wager more people agree with me than you.

An question i would have loved to see answered would be if they are actively squashing bugs/glitching in multiplayer before the games release... that kind of ruined the gaming experience for me at times. Even with glitching though it was some of the most fun i've ever had online before i finally moved onto COD4.

Say what you want, but CliffyB is down to earth for a figurehead in the industry.

I would thoroughly enjoy beating the shit out of Cliff. He's right behind Itagaki on people who need an ass beating in this industry.

Fuckin' A.

I curse Gears....

It took Cliffy away from his most important contribution to society,

Cat scanning.

www.catscan.com was awesome and it fell to the wayside when he got all big and busy with his "real" job.

*note that I found Gears to be a lot of fun and am looking forward to the sequel...

I hope you get to have more than 8 players in a MP game. Maybe like 6 vs 6 or 8 vs 8 even instead of a measly 4 vs 4. And as it was pointed out already, lessen host advantage.

Good interview. You actually made CliffyB seem like a real person. I think he's a good guy with some good ideas, and I hope Gears 2 does well.

I think that, the only reason why gears of gay was popular was cause it was the only ok game to play at the time no other games where out buy if u compare it to cod4 and any other fps, you start noticing the crappiness I’ve seen better graphics on the psp and its unbearable slow and filled with bugs….but that’s just me……….

I for one am upset about the "party system". I want to filter out my matches. I want to pick the map to play on,the number of rounds, and more importantly the PING. I don't want to play whatever the game randomly picks for me.

I don't understand what everyone whined about the multiplayer system of the first game. You get in a game and send your friends invites, how hard is that? A lot of people are confusing "party system" with playing ranked with your friends. Ranked is still going to be 4 on 4 randoms.
