OK, don't get too excited just yet. Videogaming24/7 translated a piece from JeuxVideo*, which states that Ubisoft's Michel Ancel allegedly confirmed Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been in pre-production for the last year. Apparently, 10-12 people have been working on the project, but the Ubisoft suits aren't sure whether to move forward.
Beyond Good & Evil has become the stuff of industry folklore at this point. A great game that just released at the wrong time and suffered terribly at retail for it. Even if this sequel rumor is true, it would still be years away from seeing release (sad face), but at least we'd eventually get to hang with Jade, Pey'J and Segundo once again.

If it has the same stupid character design the sequal will flop as well. Just incase the devs didn't realize it, the kiddie character design is the reason the first game failed.

You know what Shag? You're absolutely right. Fuck the cartoony style. I want something much more realistic . Here's a few changes I suggest that you might even like Shag:
1.Change Jade's outfit. Who the fuck wants a strong female character not being sexualized? I don't care about her, all I care about is her boobies. Because when I think of next generation, I think of tits. So enlarge her tits to an almost impossible size(think anime boobs) have them jiggle every time she walks(perhaps get Itagaki on this game). Also have her wear lots of latex and maybe carry a whip instead of a staff. Because staffs aren't sexy enough, unless they are being inserted somewhere(you know what I'm talking about).
2. Change Jade's back story. Instead of working in an orphanage, she's a prostitute working the streets, trying to avenge the death of her fellow hoes who were killed by crooked cops (see gritty does=better!!!). And instead of the pig being her uncle, have him be her pimp, and Jade has to do "side missions" (if ya know what I mean) in order to get money before her pimp beats the shit out of her.
3. Also, change the fucking plot. Instead of having her taking pictures of a conspiracy within the government. Instead have her take pictures of filthy politicians getting it on at local S&M clubs and then blackmail them for money.
So what we should do is have Frank Miller write this game. Because with a much more grittier and "realistic" character design and plot, this game would obviously sell much more better.

Agree with Vegeta 100%. Only thing that kind of annoyed me was how predictable the twist was and how quickly it showed up.

I have to agree with this guy. The design of this game always put me off it. I don't know what games you guys play, but just because something isn't kiddie doesn't mean it has to be softcore porn or a space marine.

Rough Translation (if you see any errors, go ahead and correct them):
JeuxVideo Magazine has an exclusive interview with Rayman's creator, Michel Ancel, who declared that Beyond Good and Evil 2 was under pre-production stage. Which was considered the best game of the year in 2003, despite it's commercial failure. "I'm working on BG&E 2. It has been in pre-production for about a year, a small team and me were working on research during that time. Though right now we're still in planning stage and we still haven't gotten an agreement on Ubisoft's part.", these were Ancel words during the interview. He also said that there are around 10 persons working on the project.
"The old characters are back, continuing their story: there's going to be lots of stages, many emotions with game play and the characters. This time we'll see the future of the planet, reporting on the animals..." Promising? we don't know yet. We're still waiting Ubisoft's word on this. Maybe we will hear an announcement on UbiDays?

My shot from the Le Joystique department:
'In an interview conducted with JeuxVideo Magazine, Michel Ancel (father of Rayman) declared that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is actually in the preproduction phase. Considered to be among the best games of the year 2003, Beyond Good & Evil sadly didn't experience the expected level of commercial success. "I'm working on Beyond Good & Evil 2. We have been in preproduction for a year, and we have conducted research work with a small team. But for the moment, it is in a difficult stage. Ubisoft has not yet given approval" said Ancel in the course of the interview. Behind closed doors, he announced that about ten to twelve people have worked on the project.
"We want to be consistent with the first: a large variety of types of gameplay, lots of emotions in the gameplay and the associated characters. This time we enter the future of the planet, the rapport with animals..." Tantalizing, isn't it? One hopes in any case that the French publisher gives the green light. What better place for such an announcement would there be than the UbiDays event?'
No one uses the word Joystick or any form of it in French, BTW. It's more typically "manette."

I really really really really need to finish this game.
I loved the gameplay and the game has some of the best music ever in a video game.
Ugh.
Does anyone know if it's backwards compatible with the 360 yet?

The first was pretty good actually but I agree with Shagster in a way. Only so certain girl characters can pull off being badass. I'm not sure they did a good enough job of making her non-generic. I rented it just cuz I was bored and ended up enjoying it. Also, Ive always thought the title of the game was horrible.

My bad, I shouldn't be shifting back-n-forth while I work lol. I don't feel they did a good enough job of making her a AAA character. Therefore she and the game ended up being generic to the average gamer. I myself thought it was generic but was like "ahh what the hell I'll rent it." and was pleasantly surprised, thats all.

10-12 people working on the game? Don't you mean 10-12 people will buy the game? Zing!
Seriously critics need to know that pushing critic’s darlings causes distaste for a game, rather than support. Do know how often I hear, why didn’t you play Psychonauts?! Why did you play Beyond Good and Evil? I’ll tell you why no one bought them, the games look stupid. I like Psychonauts’ art style but it gives a terrible first impression, and as for BGoE all it is this promotional image are of a green lip chick and a pig. The game has something to do with a photographer or something causing unrest against a government. I rather have “go kill the bad guy and save the princess” as a premise over that. This game didn’t sell because the game doesn’t appeal to average game player except for people that have to play the game long enough to figure out it is good (critics) and the 1% of gamers that read all reviews on the internet and then go out a buy games critics recommend.

I don't want the NDF to take this the wrong way, but... Seriously, look at how well Mario sells. You can't tell me that it isn't conceptually retarded. The problem isn't that games like BG&E or Shadow of the Colossus look stupid, it's that they look different. People see a game about some guy in an armor suit killing dragons and say "hey, this must be like Zelda or Final Fantasy, I'll buy this game." But people see a game like Beyond Good and Evil and they say "I have no idea what this game is going to be like. I'll leave it on the shelf." God, you've got to love the general public.

i agree on the psychonauts thing, it was just ugly and unappealing to me. that doesn't mean its a bad game i just wouldn't be able to get through it. i heard about the humor would make you look past the sometimes weak 3D platforming but of what i saw of the characters turned me off.

You wanna know why you got whited out?
1. Unlike james here, you're a fucking retard who's every word manages to insult my intelligence.
2. You worded your argument wrong by saying the character designes were stupid, which is wrong since they were appealing and fit the setting very nicely. I do agree with James that the game didn't appeal to gamers because of the way they look. But that doesn't mean they were stupid. The problem is is that in 2003, the gaming world was fucking GTA crazy. Everything had to be GTA like. If a game seemed kiddy, it was considered stupid and doomed to fail unless it was Mario. So 2003 was a period in time where a bunch of 12 year old retards went around buying these shitty "mature" titles simply because of the violence. Luckily this has kinda changed as now games that are like BG&E, are more likely to do well.

2. I guess your opinion differs from mine, but saying the designs were perfect for the game doesn't make your opinion a fact.

1) I forgot Shag, you have no intelligence. Our bad.
2) You know I am really starting to see were this generation gap is divided. You think that as a kid we thought Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Mario, Bubble Bobble and all the other games were stupid? Hell yes we did! Hell I was alive were you would hear "Final Fantasy...wtf was that? Spoony Bard? That is so dumb. Why would a plumber have a pet monkey? Why are you sneaking around, I want to shoot some people!"
Thing was since we loved gaming so much we could not be picky or choses. We rented and played each game that came out and then keeped or returned anyone we did not like based on PLAYING THE FUCKING GAME! There was no Game Trailers, GameSpot Sell Outs or super stars shoving adverts and tits down your throat, so you had to actually judge the game by the game itself.
Damn kids...and then we wonder why everything sucks today with the homogenization of the market...

Do people think ripping everyone who didn't play it apart is a good way to convince new people to play it? The character design was unappealing to a lot of people. That doesn't mean they are stupid or want every game to be DOA Volleyball. If everyone is playing GTA and Mario, why make a game that's halfway in between where all the people who want cartoonish games won't play (because it's not sequel), and all the people used to realistic games won't play (because it's not aesthetically pleasing)?

Wow, you are lying out your ass and you know it. Do you really think that only 1% of gamers read reviews before buying a game? No, you don't, no one is that stupid. I mean, look at this fucking web page! I'll bet almost every single person who has read this post reads reviews and buys games. Hello!, this is a site about video games. Perhaps you are the 1% of gamers who reads reviews, understands that a game is really good, but then still tries to talk shit about it just to sound smart.
If all you want is "go kill the bad guy and get the princess" then you are killing video games.
