A slightly more natural translation:

In an interview granted at a JeuxVideo Magazine conference, Michel Ancel (creator of Rayman) declared that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is actually in the pre-production phase. Considering how it was the best game of 2003, Beyond Good & Evil unfortunately was not the commercial success it was expected to be. "I'm working on Beyond Good & Evil 2. We've been in pre-production for a year, and we've conducted a lot of research with a small group of people. But for now, it's at the outline stage; Ubisoft has not yet agreed to anything," said Ancel clearly during the interview. Afterward, he announced that 10 to 12 people are working on the project.

"We want to be in the first continuity: a wide variety of gaming stages, many emotions in the gameplay and endearing characters. This time we tackle the future of the planet, the welfare of the animals [...]" Tempting, isn't it? In any case, we hope the French editor gets the green light. And why not make an announcement at the UbiDays event?

Halfway through this game right now. Would be done if my GCN memory card hadn't corrupted. Excellent stuff, though.

Jade has to be one of my favorite characters in gaming. She's one of the few female leads that isn't the cliched "femme fatale." She comes across as incredibly normal and believable, and is even occasionally a bit slow, which is charming and good for a laugh (without being as obnoxious as princess peach).

Yay, I want internet cookies! And cyber milk! Here goes

Michael Anman (the man behind Rayman), recently announced during an interview with our colleagues at JeuxVidéos Magazine that BG&E2 is currently in pre-production. Considered to be one of the best games of 2003, BG&E unfortunately failed to live up to its commercial expectations. Ancel said during the interview that: 'I'm working on BG&E 2. We are in the pre production stage and we started about a year ago, working as a small team. For now, we've only been drafting a few ideas, it hasn't been greenlit by Ubisoft yet.' About 10 to 12 people are working on the moment according to Ancel.

'We want to this to be a true sequel to the first game: lots of different activities, gameplay that evokes lots of emotions, and with characters you care about.' Sounds interesting, doesn't it? We hope that the French publisher will greenlit the game. Any chance of an announcement during the UbiDays event?

I'd buy it. I liked the first one, although I think it was a little over rated. The combat kinda sucking was it's main problem. But it's quite good, otherwise.

And I suspect that Ubisoft not knowing what to do with it=they don't know what platform to put it on yet.
I say put it on all 3.

I agree that the game was probably more potential than execution. While it had tons of variety and everything was fun, no single element of the game would hold up particularly well on it's own (maybe hovercraft racing, loved that). I think for most people it was how seamlessly everything fit together, which is something you rarely see in games these days that pass drinking at a bar and a darts minigame off as "variety."

Nonetheless, this unrealized potential is all the more reason to want a sequel.

Sounds like it's such an internet legend that even joystick bloggers haven't played it.

It's a good game, and a good concept. But it's difficult to play it without noticing that it is only half-finished. After a lot of story development, suddenly Pad'j disappears (as if they couldn't pay the voice actor) and someone else basically takes over what his character was for. Then, the game is developing nicely and a wrap-up scene/activity appears out of nowhere, and bam, it's done.

Instead of a great game released at the wrong time, it was a game that could have been great, but the developer/publisher couldn't get enough support to complete it.

You need to play the game again.

Pey'j didn't just disappear, he was captured because he was a part of the Iris Network.

That's not really the point. He was written out. Why? Why write out a developed major character and then replace him with another character to guide you along?

And then only to bring him back in the end and then... Well, I'm not going to spoil it.

I will remain skeptical. I find it very hard to believe that they will match let alone surpass the geatness of the first one.

I started playing this game the other day on Steam. So awesome, unfortunately, I'm getting weird audio problems where the actor's lines don't line up to the animations. Though, I seem to remember similar mistakes appearing on GameCube.

Idle though: Jade reminds me a lot of Alyx from HL2...

You mean sexy in a not trying to be sexy way? Or the realistic female heroine who's not oversexed.

yeh i noticed that when i played half life 2, its not just how they look the characters are sort of similar, neither of them are any kind of soldier but can handle themselves pretty well, they both have a father figure captured by the enemy, who they then rescue

I'd like to see them finish XIII actually.

Were there any other good Ubisoft games right around that time that they put on the shelf? I think they were having money problems.

Does anyone know if the Steam version fixes the horribly game-stopping bugs from the original PC release? Specifically, the key that doesn't actually drop when it's supposed to preventing you from going further.

I'd have to say that along with Alyx, Jade is my favorite female protagonist. I would very much like a sequel that answered some of the questions left hanging at the end of the first game.

Dayum... maybe one of these days when I get the games back from my ex I'll see how well the game runs again. I only have the PC version :( But I do have a PC Controller for it. I never could get far... it had the same issues as Halo CE for the computer. Though gotta admit, it looked better than Halo CE >.> *hides somewhere*

The thing is, it's like Firefly - hardly anybody saw it the first time round, but I touched the people that did so profoundly they're likely to gobble up anything related that appears. I know I will.

Holy crap! I nearly fell in the floor when I saw the headline. Beyond Good & Evil is such a good game, I can't even find the adjectives to describe it adequately enough. I played through it again about a month ago. The story is fantastic, and there's so much more they could do. It's a shame they haven't made a sequel up until now, but this is an example of a great game that didn't sell well. If you have not played it, do yourself a favor and find a copy online.

They should release it on the Wii... its essentially very good version of Zelda, so it'll definitely appeal to hardcore Wii gamers.

I hope there is a sequel.

Yeah... I don't see what everyone has against this game. I've been waiting for a sequel to come out for so very long I'd given up hope. I think that the game play was great fun and I completely disagree that it looked "stupid." Though, I never really liked the GTA games and I've never had a problem buying something with little advertisement. I hope they really do go through with making this game and I hope they don't try to change it too much and ruin it trying to make it more modern. I'll be looking for it on the shelves :]
